Teen Driver Safety Technology
Check out our innovative Chevy technology by stopping by Ray Chevrolet Fox Lake, IL. Safety features such as the Teen Driver Chevy technology helps guide teenagers behind the wheel and build safe driving habits.
The safety of your family comes first. But as many parents know, getting your teen to follow safe driving habits can be challenging. The thought of letting your teenager handle your vehicle may sound daunting. But Chevy offers their teen driver safety technology to coach your new driver and track their driving performance.
Chevy's teen driver safety technology is a built-in system to restrict certain functions or alert them of potentially dangerous driving behaviors. This control is similar to how parental control would work for television.
The goal of the Teen Driver Safety technology is to guide and coach your teenager to become a responsible driver without being overbearing. This technology offers the following features:
- Buckle to Drive: Sensors in the vehicle can detect whether your teenager has their seat belt on. The car will automatically disable the ability to shift out of the park for 20 seconds if the driver doesn't have their seat belt buckled.
- Speed Limiter: This feature enables you to set a maximum speed limit for your teenager.
- Speed Warning: In addition to the speed limiter, it will also warn the driver with audio and visual alerts once the speed limit is reached or exceeded.
- Seat Belt Audio Limit: One way to get your teenager to buckle up is to mute the audio until their seat belt is buckled. That's exactly what this feature does
- Volume Limit: The volume limit allows parents to set a maximum volume limit for the audio. This helps to eliminate distractions while they're behind the wheel.
Using Teen Driver Safety
But the question is, how does this all work? The Teen Driver technology can be activated through the Chevy MyLink infotainment display. First, tap "settings" and then tap on "Teen Driver."
Next, you'll be asked to set up a pin and register a key fob for your teen only. The Infotainment system will walk you through registering the new key fob for your teenage driver. Once registered, you can set all of the limits and activate the features mentioned. When your teen uses this key fob, only they will drive under these limits.
After your teen drives, you can always check their driving performance. It will display a report card that shows information like the maximum speed; distance traveled, tailgating alerts, forward collision alerts, and overspeed warnings.
