Rear Park Assist Technology

To avoid crashing into objects while you’re reverse parking, the Rear Park Assist Technology provides distance alerts whenever nearby objects are found behind your vehicle. It activates when your vehicle is traveling below five mph and is in reverse gear.

This Chevrolet technology provides object location and distance-to-object warnings to help drivers avoid colliding into objects. Four ultrasonic sensors are mounted to the rear bumper and can detect objects up to 8 feet away.

Rear Park Assist works in conjunction with the Rear Vision camera to provide visual distance alerts. On the infotainment system, a warning triangle appears when an object is detected nearby. As the object draws close to your vehicle, the color of the triangle changes from yellow to amber to red while also increasing in size. The interval between each beep becomes shorter as the object becomes closer.

This feature can be turned on using the Settings menu. Or there’s a hard switch button that can be toggled On and Off with an LED indicator.

Once the sensors detect an object, your rear speakers will emit low-pitched beeps to alert you. However, your Chevrolet vehicle will likely also have the Safety Alert Seat. This means your seat will also pulsate when the object draws closer.

Keep in mind that the Rear Park Assist isn’t designed to detect all pedestrians, children, animals, or bicyclists. You should always check for people behind your vehicle before shifting into the reverse gear. As a safety precaution, make sure the sensors are kept clean otherwise, the detection may not work or cause false detections. The sensors look like small circular indentations on the rear bumpers.
