Front Pedestrian Braking Technology
Chevrolet’s Front Pedestrian Technology works in conjunction with Forward-Collision Alerts to help avoid or reduce the severity of a front-end collision with a pedestrian in the direct path of your vehicle. Using the Front-Facing camera sensor located on the windshield in front of the inside rearview mirror, this active Chevy safety technology of Front Pedestrian Braking provides pedestrian alerts and can automatically provide hard emergency braking or enhance the driver’s hard braking at speeds below 50 mph during the daytime.
Front Pedestrian Braking Alerts and Usage
When you engage the Forward gear, the Front Pedestrian Braking uses the Forward-Looking camera to monitor moving or stationary pedestrians in front of your vehicle. An Amber pedestrian icon will be displayed when a nearby pedestrian is detected ahead. If the driver is approaching the detected pedestrian too quickly, a Red flashing windshield alert is activated. If your vehicle is equipped with advanced safety features, the driver will also hear eight high-pitched front beeps or feel five both-side Safety Alert Seat pulses to signal the imminent pedestrian collision. If Front Pedestrian Braking detects a collision with the pedestrian directly ahead of the vehicle, and the brakes are not being applied to avoid a crash, it automatically applies hard emergency braking, or enhances the driver’s hard braking.
To ensure that the Front Pedestrian Braking is fully effective, be sure to keep the windshield in front of the camera sensor free of snow, frost, and excessive dirt, and be aware that darkness or poor visibility limits performance of the Front Pedestrian Braking feature. Front Pedestrian Braking should be viewed as an added safety feature and should not replace conscientious, attentive driving.
