The Following Distance Indicator lets drivers know when they are following another car too closely. The system uses a forward-looking camera, radar, or a combination of camera and radar (depending on how the vehicle) to display a “following time” when the distance is between 0.5 and 2.5 seconds. This allows the driver to adjust speed accordingly. Of course, this is no substitute for alert driving. Also, weather and road conditions must be taken into consideration. This important safety feature also works with Forward Collision Alert to help prevent collisions. Activate this feature from the Driver Information Center and you are ready to go.
