Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert
If you want to test out the innovative Chevy technology, stop on by Ray Chevrolet - the best Chevy dealer, Fox Lake. Chevy safety features such as the Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert aim to protect you and your passengers from collisions.
Whether it's another vehicle changing lanes without using the turn signal or failing to see a vehicle due to your blind spot, changing lanes is a significant cause for motor vehicle accidents. The Lane Change Alert system is designed to warn drivers when it is dangerous to change lanes.
Lane Change Alert Technology
The Lane Change Alert includes a Side Blind Zone Alert that detects moving vehicles approaching your blind zone. This feature provides the driver with side mirror visual alerts to prevent collisions when changing lanes.
It works by having hidden radar sensors located in the rear corners of your Chevy vehicle. These sensors are designed to locate vehicles on the next lane over behind your side mirrors. The lane change sensor can detect up to 11 feet behind your side mirror. Also, this system can only operate when the vehicle is moving forward.
Using Lane Change Alert
As soon as you start your Chevy vehicle, the side mirror alerts will flash on, which indicates that the system is working. While driving, the sensors will detect when a vehicle is fast-approaching your lane change zone or if a vehicle is in your blind spot.
When detected, a yellow symbol appears on the side view mirror that the other vehicle is in. If you have your turn signal on while a vehicle is seen, the yellow symbol will begin flashing to warn you not to change lanes. You can easily turn the feature on and off through the Vehicle Personalization menu on the infotainment system.
Keep in mind that the Lane Change Alert system isn't a replacement for using a turn signal or checking the mirrors before changing lanes. The system is designed as an extra insurance policy to warn you about vehicles in the blind spot. This technology can detect other types of vehicles, such as motorcycles. However, it's not designed for detecting pedestrians. Also, poor weather can lead to obstructions and poor visibility, which affects the radar sensors' performance.
