When Should You Change Your Wiper Blades?

There is a lot to maintain when you are a car owner. Small things like wiper blades or tire pressure may be the last few things you keep up with. For us at Ray Chevrolet, we believe that all parts of your vehicle are important to keep maintained up to date!

So the big question here is: when and how often should you be replacing your wiper blades? Luckily for you, we have the answer and some maintenance tips!

The wiper blades on your vehicle are essentially “rubber squeegees” that clear away rain, snow, sleet, dust, bugs- you name it. With that said, they are exposed to a lot during the seasons.

Ideally, we recommend changing your wiper blades about twice a year because of how harsh those Chicago winters can be! What do you replace them with? OEM standard blades, or original equipment manufacturer blades. Visit your Chevy dealer nearby and we can swap those out for you!

After keeping up with replacing your blades, you want to make sure you are taking proper care of them. Never use your wiper blades and wash fluids to de-frost your car. You might be in a hurry and can’t see, but it’s important to wait for your car to run so you don’t ruin the blades.

During long periods of time when your car is parked outside in the cold, occasionally life up and pull the wiper blades in the opposite direction of the glass to keep them from getting stuck to the frozen windshield.

Lastly, to clean them, you can use soap and water when you are washing your vehicle. Make sure you are washing the rubber part of the blades slowly to prevent cracking or breaking the blade off. It is a good way to keep your new Chevy vehicle looking clean!
