Chevy Silverado ZRX Will Be Like Colorado ZR2 But Bigger

At Ray Chevrolet, we love the Chevy Colorado, which is why we are excited by the news that the Silverado ZRX is going to be very similar to that equally awesome truck. The only downside we can see is that we’re going to have to wait a few years to get behind the wheel of this new model. Right now, rumor is the Chevy Silverado ZRX won’t be available until the 2022 model year.

The Silverado ZRX V8 will be like the Colorado ZR2 in many ways. None of this is confirmed yet (we are talking about the automotive industry after all), things are pretty fluid and information is a bit scarce. We can speculate, however, that the ZRX will likely be the recipient of new suspension system by getting the same multimatic DSSV dampers that are put to such good use on the ZR2. Front and rear electronic-locking differentials would also be welcomed additions to improve the rugged Silverado pickup’s off-road traction.

The engine will likely remain the same as other trim levels for the Silverado, so expect the top level to equal the 420 horsepower from a 6.2-liter V8 engine as its cousin. No word on what the powertrain lineup will look like. It would be great if the 3.0-liter diesel was an option, but there’s no guarantee that will be the case.

We know that news of the Silverado ZRX is more than just idle chatter, because General Motors has, in fact, put in a trademark application for the ZRX moniker with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. They’re not fooling around. What makes this all the more interesting is that Fox Racing, Inc. has filed for a similar trademark for the ZRX name. Fox Racing makes off-road suspension products, so this has us thinking that the two companies may be collaborating on components. Fox already works with Ford and Toyota so that wouldn’t be too surprising.

Unfortunately, we can’t announce the Silverado ZR2 release date at this point because we just don’t know it. We know that’s what kept you reading this far, but we can say that if you need some help deciding which truck is right for you, you should come see us at Ray Chevrolet. We can answer any questions you have about our full line of Chevy cars, trucks, and SUVs. We are located at 39 N US-12, Fox Lake or give us a call at (847) 793-1048.
