Chevy Camaro ZL1 vs. New Camaro SS

Before the new 2019 Chevy Camaro arrives at Chevy dealerships near you, the automaker has decided to put the new vehicle through a system of rigorous testing. But what can you even compare the thrilling new Camaro to? What could possibly live up to its stunning features and capabilities? What vehicle could possibly be worthy competition?

The 2019 Chevy Camaro SS’s powerful ZL1 sibling, of course.

New spy photos released last month offered Chevy dealers a glimpse into the new 2019 Chevy Camaro SS’s future. The vehicle was shown zipping along testing tracks with the ZL1 close behind. The images give Chevy fans a rare chance to compare the two unique Camaro variations to one another and get a feel for the direction the automaker is taking the new vehicle.

The ZL1 in the spy shots seems to be the same as the version you’ll currently find at car dealerships near you, suggesting to fans that the car is being used as a “benchmark” against the updated SS. Seeing the two cars side-by-side on the open road allows Chevy engineers to directly compare the SS’s upgrades to the ZL1’s suite of features.

Details are difficult to make out in the spy photos, but we do know that the new 2019 Camaro will arrive on dealer lots later this year with a fresh new exterior makeover. The upgraded Camaro’s exterior will include revised LED headlights, a refreshed grille, and head extractors in the center of the car’s hood. The changes appear to have been implemented to boost the Camaro’s aggressive appearance and boisterous attitude. Sign us up!

The automaker is slated to offer the new Camaro with its typical six-speed manual powertrain option. But don’t worry–the new Camaro will also be available with a V8 engine paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The V8 engine option will come with a full suite of intense, performance-oriented features too, like launch control and line look.

Unfortunately, Chevy is keeping information about the new Camaro SS’s interior under lock and key for now. But we do know that the vehicle will include a handful of changes: a rear camera mirror will be offered as an option, the vehicle’s standard backup camera will have improved image quality, and the 7- and 8-inch MyLink infotainment systems will boast some brand new software. The vehicle’s infotainment system will also feature better graphics and improved Bluetooth connectivity.
