Chevy Trucks Get Top Marks from J.D. Power in Annual Survey
J.D. Power has announced their list of Top Rated Trucks for 2017 and Fox Lake Chevy fans won’t be surprised to learn that Chevrolet was awarded top marks yet again.
Each year, J.D. Power conducts its annual Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study to help consumers make the best choice possible when shopping for a new truck or car. The study surveys drivers across the country to measure vehicle owner satisfaction after 90 days of ownership across the competing vehicles in terms of performance, design, layout and features. After the data is collected, the vehicles are rated on a scale of 1 – 5.
The 2017 Chevrolet Colorado gained recognition thanks to its off-roading capabilities. Powered by a new 3.6-liter V6 engine (or an optional turbocharged diesel 4-cylinder engine) which is paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission, the Colorado can handle just about any scenario or road condition you throw at it.
But it was the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Light Duty that ranked highest this year. The truck has the distinction of being one of the most popular vehicles in America, due in part to its extreme practicality: The Silverado 1500 can tow up to 12,500 pounds and is an essential part of just about any work site.
The 2018 Silverado 1500 takes everything America loved about the 2017 model and adds a whole new package of features to bowl us over yet again. The new truck comes standard with a 6-speaker audio system across all trim levels, a standard Chevy MyLink infotainment system with a 7-inch diagonal color touchscreen, Bluetooth streaming audio, SiriusXM Satellite Radio and OnStar. The new trucks also come with standard Rear Vision Cameras on all models and Tire Fill Alert.
Drivers who want to add a bit more flavor to their 2018 Silverado 1500 can spring for the Custom Convenience Package, which is only available on the Silverado 1500 Custom (ICX) trim level. The package comes with a remote locking tailgate, remote keyless entry, color keyed carpeting with rubberized vinyl floor mats and a rear-window defogger.
All of these exciting components come wrapped up in a package that’s now available in two new exterior colors: Cajun Red Tintcoat and Havana Metallic. If Ford truck drivers weren’t jealous of you before, they sure will be now.
Come visit us at Ray Chevrolet for a look at the best Chevy trucks available near you. We’ve got the 2017 and 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 in all trim levels, so don’t miss your chance to test out all their award-winning components in person. If you like what you see, let us know and we’ll be happy to arrange a test drive for you.
When the 2018 Chevy Camaro ZL1 1LE finally arrived on Fox Lake Chevy dealers’ lots, we all knew we were looking at something special. However, the latest news from Chevy confirms that the new Camaro is one of the most uniquely powerful vehicles the automaker has ever put out.
The 2018 Camaro ZL1 1LE now has the distinction of setting a record at the famed Nürburgring’s 12.9-mile (20.8 km) Nordschleife (“north loop”). The vehicle was able to lap the track in just 7:16:04, making it the fastest Camaro to ever drive the celebrated German speedway. The ZL1 1LE’s lap time was impressive enough to shatter the previous ZL1’s 13.56 record from last year.
“With chassis adjustability unlike any vehicle in its peer group, the Camaro ZL1 1LE challenges supercars from around the world regardless of cost, configuration or propulsion system,” Al Oppenheiser, chief engineer for Camaro, told reporters during a recent interview. “To make up more than a second per mile on the Nordschleife, compared to the ZL1 automatic, is a dramatic improvement and speaks to the 1LE’s enhanced track features.”
Fans of the previous Camaro ZL1 1LE will be pleased to hear that the new vehicle includes all of your favorite features plus a range of new ones. New features include racing-based adjustable suspension components (such as the notoriously intense Multimatic Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve front and rear dampers), special front dive planes, a carbon-fiber rear wing and exclusive Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R summer-only tires. All of these exciting components come as part of the vehicle’s extreme track performance package.
Of course, the feature you’ll be most impressed with is the Camaro’s remarkable engine. Powered by Chevy’s Corvette Z06-derived LT4 supercharged V-8 engine, you’ll be able to enjoy 650 horsepower, 650 lb-ft of torque and a driving experience that’s unlike any other Chevy on the market today. The vehicle utilizes its carbon-fiber wing to swallow up 106 cubic feet of air per minute more than the regular ZL1, leading to a smoother, more intense ride.
“The harder you push the Camaro ZL1 1LE, the more it rewards you,” Bill Wise, a ride and handling engineer for Camaro, explained. “It offers total control.”
As a bonus, drivers will enjoy all the interior creature comforts Chevy owners have come to expect, including heated and cooled seats, a heated steering wheel, a head-up display and an 8-inch infotainment system.
For more information about the 2018 Chevy Camaro ZL1 1LE, visit a Chevy dealer near you. At Ray Chevrolet, we’ve got more performance Camaros available than any other Fox Lake Chevy dealer and we’d be happy to answer any questions you may have before you strap in for a test drive you won’t soon forget.
At Ray Chevrolet, we try to be green and we also like to stay hydrated as we talk with our customers about the best deals on the latest models of Chevy cars and trucks. We were also happy and proud to learn about General Motors efforts to recycle and reuse plastic water bottles. Conserving resources is something we should all be thinking about and reusing materials is just smart business as far as we’re concerned.
According to the Container Recycling Institute (and they should know), Americans purchase roughly 42.6 billion single-serving bottles of water every year. That is more than a little mind blowing. About 80 percent of those bottles end up in the nation’s many overfilled landfills or are incinerated. GM is trying to turn this negative into a positive. The company has announced plans that it will be taking the water bottles discarded by its employees and turning them into insulation to cover the engines of the Chevy Equinox.
GM is no stranger to recycling. They have programs in place at all of their facilities, but now five of those locations will participate in their “Do Your Part” project. These bottles are not only being used for the noise-reducing insulation for the Equinox, they are also being turned into components for that car’s air filtration system. Beyond the automotive industry, plastic bottles are being used to make a coat which turns into a sleeping bag. These ingenious garments are given to the homeless of Detroit by a non-profit organization called The Empowerment Plan which helps these individuals break the cycle of homelessness.
Recycling is great but finding a use for waste is even better and it falls in with GM’s goal of zero waste. While the benefits to the community are great, the boost to the bottom line is important to any corporation. GM sees the value of reusing these recycled materials and is working with 11 other companies on this mission to reduce landfill usage while cutting costs.
Oh, and in case you forgot with all this talk about recycling water bottles, Chevrolet also makes fantastic cars and trucks with great fuel economy. Do yourself a favor, stop by and talk to one of our friendly and knowledgeable salespeople at Ray Chevrolet and
What began as a higher trim level classification soon became the successor to the widely-popular Chevrolet C/K line. And while sharing the many of the same design elements as the GMC Sierra, there are a number of features that set the Silverado apart.
While the 1500 designation identifies this Silverado as the light-duty model – there are slightly more variations within the brand.
The standard Silverado 1500 offers three different cab lengths, three different cargo beds and a V8 engine.
The light-duty pickup’s luxury High Country trim has amenities like LED lighting, power-articulating running boards, an electronically controlled 8-speed automatic with overdrive, Tow/Haul modes, cruise grade and powertrain grade braking, StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control System with Proactive Roll Avoidance and Traction Control, 20-inch chrome wheels, 7-speaker Bose sound system, heated steering wheel, Chevrolet MyLink Radio with Navigation and 8-inch diagonal color touchscreen display and wireless charging pad.
And for those pickup lovers that needed a vehicle offering greater towing for high-weight cargo, in 2001, Chevy came out with the HD version of the Silverado.
Much like a three-quarter ton truck, the Silverado 1500HD had similar capabilities and construction. It also had a four-door crew cab body style, a rear-wheel drivetrain option, heavy duty transmission and a more powerful suspension and rear axle.
The Chevy Silverado 1500 HD boasts a towing capacity of 10,300 pounds while hauling 3,129 pounds in the truck’s bed.
Since then, the Silverado has had a number of redesigns, increases in engine power and improvements in fuel economy. It’s no wonder this light duty truck was named North American Truck of the Year at the NAI Auto Show in 2007 and Motor Trend’s Truck of the Year.
In June of this year, Silverado sales’ increased 1.7 percent from June 2016 to June 2017. According to the brand, this was the pickup’s best month of the year due in part to incentives offered by Chevy. This included a 17 percent discount off MSRP or over $8,000 on various Silverado 1500 models. Silverado buyers also have the option of choosing a no-interest, 60 month loan on their vehicles.
Those of us here at your Fox Lake, IL Chevy dealer believe that with attractive new incentives and Silverado's reputation of dependability and performance, this pickup is set to give its competition a run for their money.
For a mid-size crossover, the staple Chevy Traverse continues to be lauded for packing a nearly unprecedented amount of features and accommodations into its spacious three rows. Splitting the practical difference between stylish mid-size crossover and accommodating full-size SUV, the Traverse receives a timely update this year that, for starters, gives it a more standout sense of style than in previous years by strongly accenting both an expanded interior and a streamlined exterior. Arriving as one of the best-equipped, safest, and most eye-catching crossover options of this season and likely a few others, too, the 2018 Traverse unquestionably looms large in today’s most-successful Chevy lineup ever.
A Young but Storied History
Arriving for the 2009 model year to cement a growing trend of widely well-received crossover innovation at Chevrolet, the Traverse brought with it a high standard of modernity, not only in its wide range of tech and safety features, but also by demonstrating a consistent dedication to progressive crossover styling through a series of considerate upgrades and refinements. Interestingly, the Traverse was one of the first Chevy vehicles to implement a fully modern color touchscreen interface, and was an early adopter of smart safety features like Forward Collision Alert and Lane Departure Warning as standard fare. Now as always, the Traverse also prioritizes serious power on a level not widely found in today’s crossovers, with burly V6s outfitting every generation thus far.
The Best Traverse Yet
Having also featured many trim options throughout its lifetime, the Traverse now looks to step things up to the apex of its evolution with the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse High Country. With a 3.6-liter V6 that pushes power output to 310 horses and easily allows the Traverse to leave its competition in the dust, the High Country also features a sophisticated twin-clutch all-wheel drive system that distributes energy to each axle independently, giving it the most impressive powertrain of its lineage. Cutting edge accommodations like auto-folding and heated rear seats show off lush, high-quality materials in the Traverse’s complimented interior, while connectivity and driver support have been streamlined more fully than ever. Bringing safety to a new high point as well, Chevy has gone the distance in implementing not only alerts for potential forward collision scenarios, but a top-of-the-line collision avoidance and automatic braking system capable of acting independently to greatly reduce the chance of certain kinds of accidents.
Come See What All the Buzz Is About Today!
The 2018 Chevy Traverse High Country definitely goes to show that Chevy has a lot of excellent new work coming down the pipeline, undoubtedly setting the stage for the continuation of Chevy’s best era on record. With a lineup full of some of the most widely recognized and best-selling vehicles available currently well-represented on our lot, we’re sure you’ll find plenty of impressive Chevrolet vehicles for sale right here at your hometown Fox Lake Chevy dealer, Ray Chevrolet, where we’re here to lend any help and assistance that will make your search easier, anytime!
Chevrolet has got to be trying to trick us. A test shows that the bed of the new 2019 Chevy Silverado is made of steel- and by a test we mean someone tried to stick a magnet to the side of the car and it stuck.
Car enthusiasts have been catching photos of the 2019 Silverado left and right, but no one had an exact conclusion about the features of the vehicle. Pickuptrucks was able to get up close and personal with the vehicle to repeat the same test done with the Ford F-Series Super Duty, and the magnet stuck. Now, the reason there are theories that this is a facade is because for the past 10+ years everyone has been switching to aluminum truck beds- why would Chevy stick with the steel for this 2019 model?
There are multiple reasons people have been switching to aluminum. It might be a little more expensive but it doesn't rust, it results in better fuel economy, there is less maintenance needed for it, and it even produces less greenhouse gas emissions! The only real benefit to a steel bed is general greater strength… but if it isn’t a trick, then Chevy has to know something we don’t know- the brand intends to sell at least 100,000 cars in the year of 2019. They’re well on their way to reaching this goal and it seems unlikely they’d do anything irrational to prevent that from happening. The silverados in the past that have been made out of steel have sold less cars than the aluminum bed Ford F-150’s. The sales of the Silverado dropped a whopping 19.7%, even still it is Chevy’s best-selling car.
This just doesn’t seem like a move Chevy would make, but if it is, there is no doubt it’s for something good. Alas, the ‘magnet trick’ has said it’s peace, and we won’t really know what is up Chevy’s sleeve for about another year or so. Until then, Chevy is still putting their best foot forward with it’s current Silverado’s and other models.
Like many of you, the team at Ray Chevrolet mourned Chevrolet’s departure from the conventional medium-duty truck segment in 2009. Ever since then we’ve been wondering when–and if–the automaker would return to building its super-practical, powerful, fun-to-drive medium duty trucks again.
That’s why we were so thrilled to learn that an unnamed GM medium duty truck was recently spotted out in the wild. The latest news indicates that the automaker is currently testing out the new truck before making any specific announcements, but some GM experts say that the vehicle could be an updated Chevrolet Silverado.
Recently-released spy photos show the camouflaged truck which features a grille unlike any we’ve seen before on the current Chevy models for sale. The vehicle’s headlights, however, look like they were plucked straight from the Chevy Silverado.
In March, Chevy announced that it planned on introducing a “flagship, medium duty truck” which would utilize a Duramax turbo-diesel engine and an Allison transmission. The automaker claimed that the vehicle would launch in 2018 and would be co-developed with NaviStar, the company which operates the International Trucks brand. Some GM enthusiasts believe that the disguised truck in the spy photos could be the vehicle Chevy promised just a few months ago.
In its statement announcing the pending arrival of the new truck, the automaker confirmed that it would supply commercial components and engines while NaviStar would provide “its expertise in rolling chassis configurations and manufacturing capabilities.” According to the statement, the upcoming Chevy medium duty truck will use a GM-sourced powertrain while NaviStar will handle the actual manufacturing in its Gardland, Texas factory.
We don’t have much information on the vehicle’s potential powertrain, but we expect that the Duramax engine featured under the hood of the new truck will probably be GM’s new 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel L5P engine. If that’s the case, drivers can expect a whopping 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque. The same stellar engine currently appears in the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado HD. If you’re in the market for a Chevy work truck near you, then the 2017 Silverado HD could be your perfect match.
Although the rumor mill is churning at full-force, we’re not sure what Chevrolet might name the upcoming conventional medium duty truck. However, some online GM experts have speculated that the automaker might choose between three possibilities: The Chevrolet Kodiak, the Chevrolet HD 550/650, or the Chevrolet Silverado HD 550/650.
Can’t hold out for the new, mysterious medium duty truck? Don’t worry. At Ray Chevrolet, we’ve got plenty of Chevrolet work trucks for sale. Pay us a visit and take one of our new trucks out for a spin. There’s no commitment to purchase and our knowledgeable staff is here to answer any questions you may have.
Families who are in the market for a fun, safe new vehicle will be delighted to learn that the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt has received top marks for safety from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The new Bolt is the first and only all-electric vehicle to receive the institute’s Top Safety Pick award so far this year.
“The Bolt earns good ratings in all five of the Institute’s crashworthiness tests–small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints,” a representative for the IIHS said in a recent statement. “It also has an optional front crash prevention system that earns a superior rating. The car avoided collisions in IIHS track tests at 12 mph and 25 mph and the system has a forward collision warning component that meets National Highway Traffic Safety Administration criteria.”
The only area where the IIHS felt the 2017 Bolt could be improved was in its headlights. “[The headlights] provide fair to good visibility but produce excessive glare for oncoming drivers,” the institute stated.
However, the Bolt’s headlights are still among the best in its class. Other vehicles that were chided for their apparent lighting deficiencies include the Honda Civic, the Subaru Crosstrek, the Volkswagen Golf, the Nissan Sentra and the Lexus CT 200h.
Among the Bolt’s award-winning safety features are multiple airbags (including a rear head air bag, a side head airbag, and a rear body air bag), brake assist, a top-of-the-line rollover protection system, and lane departure warning. Additional safety features are available as well–just ask a Chevy dealer near you for more information.
The 2017 Chevy Bolt EV also includes a range of brand new technology–the car can even use a mobile app to access advanced GPS routing. The vehicle is capable of designing custom routes just for you which will maximize the Bolt’s 200+ mile range and even give you the locations of nearby charging stations. If you get stuck somewhere, the vehicle’s OnStar 4G LTE system comes complete with high-speed Wi-Fi so that help is never far away.
Best of all, the new 2017 Chevy Bolt comes with a 10-inch MyLink color touchscreen display that allows drivers and passengers to enjoy their favorite music and apps via the magic of Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. You can even sync up your phone to enable hands-free voice calls and texting.
In response to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s praise of the new 2017 Bolt, Chevrolet has moved up the vehicle’s release date. That means that the new vehicle will appear at your favorite Fox Lake Chevy dealer in August 2017. You can place your order for a new Bolt today at Ray Chevrolet.
Once you’ve had a chance to get the scoop on the all-new 2018 Chevy Equinox, it’s a safe bet that you’ll know exactly why the Equinox had no problem rising to the top of Chevy’s 2016 sales charts, only ceding the top spot to the perennially beloved Silverado pickup. That’s quite a testament to the winning design of a relatively young model, and new and old fans alike can only look forward to plenty of considerate improvements and additions, which are already finding the 2018 Chevy Equinox receiving wide praise from critics and industry media. With that in mind, we’ve got all of the details to get you up to speed on this outstanding new model, available now at Ray Chevrolet.
Plenty of New Additions
At first glance, there are some obvious changes to the Equinox’s smoothly sculpted form that are definitely clear, making for a smaller and lighter final product on the whole. What’s less clear from the outside, however, is how much more has truly been packed in despite the trim new look. Industry leading analysts at Edmunds take the time to point out in their extended review that “downsizing has barely impacted the Equinox’s spacious interior.” Of course, spacious comfort is only the beginning of the 2018 Equinox’s strengths, as it continues to demonstrate its abilities to go above and beyond meeting the needs (and wants) of a wide variety of drivers.
An Ideal Suite of Modern Powertrains
Offering a boldly simplified choice between two turbocharged four-cylinder engines and a 1.6-liter diesel, the 2018 Equinox and its four diverse trim options also push the envelope on efficiency. Achieving a peak of 40 mpg highway in its most efficient configuration, and with stop-start technology included standard on all models, there’s no question that the new model can easily compete with the most economical competition both in its class and beyond. To make technical matters even more ideal, the Equinox’s top-tier 2.0-liter turbo engine configuration has been paired with an improved 9-speed transmission, lending a considerable boost in torque and horsepower to help keep ahead of the pack with confidence.
Enough Tech to Stay Ahead of the Curve
Chevrolet has put some notable effort into squeezing as many technological accommodations into the new Equinox, too, offering a full roster of standard high-tech safety features, an important added value. Next-generation details like a gesture-controlled rear liftgate also help to provide practical new convenience as well as accommodation for drivers with limited mobility. Connective features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto make things easy, particularly when paired with what has been regularly called one of the most intuitive, capable, and no-nonsense touchscreen infotainment systems in the industry.
Taking big strides from the already highly successful previous generation, the new 2018 Equinox stands as a serious rising star worth setting your sights on this season. You can do it right here, and learn plenty more in the process anytime, right here at your proven Fox Lake Chevy dealer, Ray Chevrolet!

The Chevy Blazer has been around since 1969–it’s a truly classic vehicle that the automaker has frequently updated with an eye toward innovation. With the Blazer, Chevy has always proven that it’s not just in step with automotive trends, it’s a step ahead. Now, General Motors is expected to re-introduce the Blazer as a new midsize Chevy CUV in the US market. The updated Blazer will be slotted beneath another one of Chevy’s premiere vehicles: The Traverse.
According to Chevy insiders, the new Blazer will feature two rows of seating (with enough room to comfortably seat five passengers) and the vehicle will be built on the same platform as the three-row Traverse. The design of the updated vehicle will also draw inspiration from the GMC Acadia, an all-terrain vehicle with two rows of passenger seating, and the Cadillac XT5.
With its flexible seating capabilities and modern, luxurious styling choices, the Blazer will offer Chevy lovers who need a little extra space in their vehicles a new, more cost-efficient option. The CUV would compete directly with the Ford Edge.
For now, Chevy executives are keeping quiet on definitive plans for the vehicle. Steve Majoros, director of marketing for cars and crossovers at Chevrolet, refuses to confirm that the automaker will make the Blazer available soon.
“We have a pretty good lineup right now,” Majoros said in a recent interview. “But never say never. We are looking at other opportunities and [the Blazer] would make sense.”
If Chevy were to definitively add the Blazer to its lineup, it would make the brand a key player in the CUV market with a total of five CUVs and two truck-based SUVs available for consumers. As gas prices continue to remain relatively low, the CUV market shows no signs of cooling off. With these vehicles in high demand across the country, the addition of the Blazer would be a sensible (and exciting) move.
Last year, the Traverse and the Equinox (two of Chevy’s bestselling CUVs) represented a combined 358,896 sales for the automaker. Last year, North American manufacturers sold more than 5.6 million CUV units, a 7% increase over last year. The CUV market share has grown to an all-time high of 32.2% over last year’s 30%. With numbers like that, it seems clear that demand is high and growth within the segment is still possible.
For now, buyers interested in midsize CUVs should look no further than their local Fox Lake Chevy dealer. At Ray Chevrolet, we’ve got the 2018 Tucson, 2018 Traverse and 2018 Equinox just waiting on the lot for you to check out and test drive. With every available kind of Chevy SUV for sale, we can guarantee you’ll find the perfect vehicle for you and your family at Ray Chevrolet.
True to its reputation, Chevy continues to put out the most innovative, fresh and exciting vehicles on the market. The automaker's latest new addition to its pickup lineup, the Colorado ZR2, is no exception.
Ever since public interest in the midsize pickup segment sparked again several years ago, Chevy has been taking advantage of its superior place in the market to produce trucks with widespread appeal. With the high-performance ZR2 trim level launching in 2017, the automaker hopes to hold onto its spot as the industry leader.
"[The] ZR2 is truly a segment of one, and [it] does everything well—from traversing heavy two-track trails to high-speed desert running and full-on rock crawling," said Sandor Piszar, marketing director for Chevrolet Trucks, in a recent interview. "We're thrilled to be able to offer it for more than $2,500 less than the next closest comparable vehicles. Taken in the context of serious off-roading, $2,000 will buy you 50 years of annual passes to Arches National Park in Moab, Utah."
For the price, the Colorado ZR2 is one of the best options in the game. The vehicle comes with a 2.8-liter Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission which generates 186 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. It weighs 1,000 pounds less than Ford's F-150 Raptor—one of the Colorado's main competitors—and costs a minimum of $10,000 less. Drivers can take that savings and turn it into a lifetime's worth of weekend off-roading adventures.
"Some vehicles that customers might cross-shop with [the] ZR2 can spec out as much as $26,000 more than our truck —or the price of a well-equipped 2017 Colorado," Piszar said. "When you buy a ZR2 at the starting price of $40,995, you are getting the entire significant off-road technologies standard with the vehicle, as well as an eight-speed automatic transmission and a wealth of other features at no additional cost."
Some of those exciting additional features include a 7-speaker Bose premium audio system, class-exclusive front and rear locking electronic differentials, off-road rocker protection, exclusive ZR2 17 x 8-inch aluminum alloy wheels, and a full-length black vinyl floor. The new ZR2 also comes with heated driver and passenger front seats, wireless phone charging, Off-Road Mode Technology, a Rear Vision Camera, and more.
When you choose the Colorado ZR2, you'll get to enjoy all the creature comforts of a luxury sedan alongside the power and remarkable off-road capabilities of a Chevy truck. For more information on the vehicle's out-of-this-world towing power, best-in-class technological features and impressive fuel economy, visit your favorite local Fox Lake Chevy dealer.
Your Fox Lake Chevy dealer currently has ZR2 trucks available on the lot, but hurry in because these new vehicles won't last long!
If you’ve been keeping up with us here on our blog at all lately, it’s definitely no surprise to hear us continuing to sing the praises of the freshly redesigned Chevy Malibu. Not only given a whole new sense of style after last year’s timely updates, the new Chevy Malibu has been completely transformed from the ground up, arriving in a mature, well-equipped, and dignified new form that seems to be taking the affordable mid-size car world by storm. It’s no surprise to us, of course, as the success of the newest Chevy Malibu is only in keeping with the recent heights of excellence for which Chevrolet has been repeatedly recognized lately, standing as the most awarded car company for three years running.
A New Echelon of Excellence
As it is with the most successful updates and redesigns, the 2017 Chevy Malibu gains its advantages by stripping the long-running classic, traditionally an economy-focused compact, down to its most identifiable strengths and throwing everything else to the curb. While the Malibu has been doing admirable duty as a simple, capable, and affordable small car for some time, it looks like Chevy has finally reached a point in its larger evolution when the Malibu is ready to graduate to a new level. Trading the Malibu’s longstanding dedication to simple style and function for a decidedly more sophisticated profile, ultra-modern trim and drivetrain options, and a huge selection of high-tech features, it’s clear that Chevy isn’t holding back one bit when it comes to giving this humble icon the update it truly deserves.
Not Just a New Pretty Face
On the outside, the dramatic changes to the new Malibu are immediately obvious. An aerodynamically sculpted body provides plenty of attractive underpinning for sleek lines, optional LED lamps and taillights, and dual exhaust, hinting subtly at the fact that the updates run much deeper than simple surface details. Under the hood, the new Malibu brings a confident selection of powerful and efficient engine configurations. Prospective drivers can choose between a host of trims featuring either Chevy’s 1.5-liter turbocharged, 36 mpg four cylinder, the power-boosted 2.0-liter version, and even a top-quality 1.8-liter, 49 mpg hybrid that’s definitely lending the 2017 Chevy Malibu plenty of progressive credibility.
Meet the New Malibu Today!
Available interior features in the new Malibu include a wide range of standard technological and connective capabilities, top-quality passenger comforts and entertainment options, and the same footprint-defying, spacious cabin for which the Malibu has always been known. There’s absolutely no denying the fact that Chevy has delivered the finest Malibu to date this year, and you can be equally certain that we’re always ready right here at Ray Chevrolet to help you to stay up to date with the world-class, award-winning lineup of Chevy cars. As the most knowledgeable and dedicated Chevy dealer in the Fox Lake area, we’re proud to be a part of the best era of Chevy vehicles yet, and we can’t wait to help you do the same!
Despite already enjoying a longer history of industry-leading innovation than just about any American vehicles still in production, Chevy continues to find exciting ways to improve the timeless Corvette for generations to come. Blazing well past its 50th anniversary and confidently around the bend into a whole new century, the Chevrolet Corvette stands more than ready to deliver as many exciting surprises today as ever before.
They’re All Golden Years!
While 65 years is generally considered a reasonable occasion for retiring into old age (and, to be honest, it’s usually much less in the automotive world), the upcoming 2018 Chevy Corvette now looks to celebrate its 65th anniversary with one of its most vibrant, spirited varations ever – the Corvette Carbon 65 Edition. With this kind of activity proving the Corvette to be as healthy as a horse (over 450 of them, to be precise), there’s clearly no chance of it slowing down any time soon.
Combining the most exceptionally iconic elements of the Corvette’s previous generations into a profile that unites low, sleek, supercar athletics with plenty of crisp, futuristic new angles, the 2018 Corvette is nothing if not considerately forward-thinking. Prospective drivers can anticipate Chevy’s reliably wide range of trim and feature options, as well as performance specs to rival the finest cars on the road today. With the Carbon 65 package, however, drivers can look forward to truly experiencing the Corvette of the future.
No Mass Product
With only 650 units filling out this truly limited edition, buyers can be certain of owning an impressive and highly collectible slice of 21st century Corvette history, as well as having the opportunity to enjoy the best of what modern performance vehicles have to offer from behind the wheel, of course. Available with the 2018 Corvette Sport 3LT and Z06 3LZ trims, the Carbon 65 package adds a new level of leading edge materials and progressive styling. Outside, the package includes a custom designed carbon fiber hood, carbon fiber rear spoiler, and matching carbon fiber ground effects, as well as unique graphics, a package-exclusive Ceramic Matrix Gray paint color, and exclusively stylized wheels and brakes, while the interior sports a range of carbon fiber accents, exclusive all-black styling with accent stitching and professional quality sport seats.

Standing as a true icon since the earliest days of classic performance-focused automotive design, the exceptional Chevrolet Camaro is keeps holding strong today, still following its own singular course of evolution as always. With decades of experience as both a street and racing favorite, in which the Camaro design has seen and continues to develop successful careers as a familiar NASCAR profile, a drag racing favorite, and of course as an automotive hobbyist’s aftermarket-ready dream, there’s no question that the Camaro can look back with confidence from the vantage point of a standout reputation.
Still Learning New Tricks
For the most recent model years, the young sixth-generation Camaro certainly doesn’t seem to be showing any signs of slacking off, a fact clearly evidenced by the arrival of downright savage beasts like Chevy’s freshly-tuned updates to the fierce, power-boosted ZL1 variation. Newly mated with an uncompromising and sophisticated 10-speed automatic transmission, the 2017 Camaro ZL1 has had no trouble gaining a reputation for bringing some awfully big smiles to the faces of some very talented test drivers. With some truly jaw-dropping results on world-class courses like Germany’s Nürburgring added into the mix lately, there can be no doubt that the youngest Camaro models continue a legacy of greatness.
Still Setting Records, Too!
Recently, driver Drew Cattell and the world-renowned Hennessey Performance Engineering team laid out some pretty impressive numbers from behind the wheel of a fully stock 10-speed 2017 ZL1, tackling Nürburgring’s Nordschliefe course in just a hair under seven and a half minutes, a time which easily places Mr. Cattell and the 2017 Chevy Camaro ZL1 in the top echelons of production vehicle lap records on the infamous German track. Add to that a 3.6-second 0-60 run, 7.6-second 0-100, and a blistering 26.2-second 0-180 time all from a calm start off the line, and the results can easily be said to speak for themselves when it comes to the question of how today’s Camaro is stacking up to competition of all kinds.
Let It Take You for a Spin Today!
Optimized not only for serious power but for an unusual amount of engine economy at high gears, the newest Chevrolet Camaro models still represents the best of what Camaro performance is known for while balancing against a multifaceted sense of forward-thinking evolution. Offering a truckload of trim options, leading edge features, and customization choices, there’s simply never been a better time to become a fan of this enduring symbol of timeless automotive design. As always, the Chevy Camaro remains just as ready to take on the tasks of everyday driving as those of the world’s most competitive racetracks, and it remains our pleasure to make the introduction an experience you won’t forget. Taking on more serious competition than ever in today’s complex and rapidly shifting automotive industry, the longtime stalwart Chevrolet Malibu has been getting some deserved attention lately for being more attractive to drivers than ever. With more segments and entries competing for attention now than at any point in the past, it’s not hard to see why General Motors has decided to take a prime opportunity to show off the enduring strengths of a longtime staple, still fresh from plenty of timely recent updates and a considerate 2016 redesign.
Keep the Best, Lost the Rest
Making the most of a modern midsize layout in more ways than one, the current Chevy Malibu still has no problem living up to the well-established strengths of its long lineage. Offering a variety of options, affordable pricing, and interior space that seems to run seriously counter to its nimble profile, the modern Malibu brings the best of its forebears into a whole new world of timely enhancements. Making a fresh move toward smoother styling and sturdier, more athletic musculature in comparison to its days in the compact segment, the new Malibu is also surprising a lot of people expecting to see luxury branding or a higher price on its showroom tag.
Plenty of New Power
That profile is just the beginning of attractive new details, as the Malibu also makes a point of presenting a strong selection of high-quality options both interior and under the hood. For the latter, Chevy brought out some impressively fierce small engines to give the 2017 Malibu more than enough juice to maintain its reputation as a quick sprinter, as well as some new fuel efficiency to significantly boost stamina, too. Drivers can choose between a 1.5-liter, 250-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder mated to a six speed automatic transmission (which is certainly more than your average standard fare in today’s most common and affordable mid-size sedans) or a refined version pushing a newly-designed, ride-enhancing nine-speed automatic instead.
Fresh Face, Same Talents
The latter comes standard for the Malibu’s Premier trim, which also belies the general shift in Chevy vehicles toward more luxurious styling and options in even its most affordable entries. Heated and ventilated leather seats, extensive connectivity in the form of USB ports and wireless charging, and a whole suite of smart safety features are just the tip of the iceberg. With so much to offer in addition to a long legacy of going the distance, we’re sure that you’ll be just as pleasantly surprised as the rest of the automotive world when you find yourself behind the wheel of the newest Chevy Malibu. You can also be sure that we’ll be ready anytime to make it an easy and enlightening introduction, right here at Ray Chevrolet!

The Chevrolet FNR-X is the new electric Chevy car that everybody can’t stop talking about. The new concept vehicle made a splash at this year’s Auto Shanghai event where it debuted to stellar reviews and excited crowds. Chevrolet previously showed off the Chevrolet FNR (Find New Roads)–a concept vehicle developed by GM’s Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC) joint venture–at Auto Shanghai in 2015.
“The Chevrolet FNR is one of Chevrolet’s most forward-thinking concept cars, truly exemplifying the brand’s passion for innovation and ingenuity,” Alan Batey, GM’s executive vice president and president of GM North America and Global Chevrolet, said in a recent interview. “The FNR-X builds on the design and technology showcased on the original FNR concept and embodies the belief at Chevrolet’s core that anything is possible.”
The Chevy FNR-X blends everything Chevy lovers appreciate about the automaker’s classic styling with the latest technology to create a vehicle that is audacious and, frankly, groundbreaking.
The FNR-X combines Chevy’s signature design language of crisp, masculine lines with exciting new additions like dynamic digital LED headlights and taillights. The new vehicle also includes unique rear-hinged doors that can be controlled remotely to ensure easy entry and exit–another fresh, futuristic feature that sets the FNR-X apart from the EV pack.
The vehicle’s plug-in hybrid electric design means that drivers can switch seamlessly between the car’s engine and electric motor through two driving modes: V (Versatility) and S (Sport). The FNR-X does all the work for you though–it modifies its suspension and handling profile via an adaptive suspension depending on the ground clearance of each particular road.
The FNR-X even offers an “autonomous driver assistance mode” through an all-terrain Advanced Driver Assist System. The system is so sophisticated that it’s able to rely on acoustic and optical sensors, route mapping and traffic information to create an augmented reality display which shows a 270-degree posterior-lateral view of everything surrounding the vehicle. The system enables drivers to choose the best route based on its predictions of complex road conditions.
Designed with driver satisfaction in mind, the FNR-X has been explicitly created to do all the work for you. The vehicle can even use its intelligent adaptive control systems, active grille shutters and switchable wheel blades to self-adjust for a better high-speed driving experience.
Inside, the FNR-X continues to impress: Chevy has pulled out all the stops to create a remarkably imaginative cabin experience. The vehicle’s interior features intelligent ambient lighting which changes color to match driving modes, as well as high-tech textiles inspired by graphene crystal structures.
Hennessey Performance (HPE) introduced their latest extravagant super muscle car last month and it’s got a name that’s sure to leave the competition shaking in its boots: The Exorcist.
The Exorcist is based on the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, one of our personal favorites from Chevy’s newest offering of cars. The Hennessey team has given the ZL1 a pretty significant boost though, increasing the manufacturer’s LT4 V8 engine’s power up to 1,000 bhp at 6,400 rpm and 966 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 rpm. With numbers like that, you know The Exorcist means business.
Hennessey was able to create that power boost by implementing a series of engine modifications, including installing a larger, higher flowing supercharger and intercooler system to produce 14 psi of boost pressure. The system is combined with ported factory cylinder heads, a camshaft upgrade, long-tube stainless steel headers, a high-flow air induction system and custom engine management calibration to create a truly unique driving experience.
But that’s not all.
“Equipped with rear drag radial tires, The Exorcist will deliver 0-60 mph times under 3 seconds while running the ¼ mile in less than 10 seconds,” John Hennessey, company founder and president, said in a recent interview. “However, The Exorcist is not just a ¼ mile racer. It’s a well-rounded super muscle car that is just as happy on a road course as it is on the dragstrip and street. Needless to say, this will leave the competition’s heads spinning.”
The Exorcist is available directly from Hennessey or can be ordered from a Chevy dealer near you. If you’ve already got a ZL1 Camaro lying around, you can send that on over to Hennessey for a quick conversion too. The Exorcist upgrade–which includes the 1,000 hp engine upgrade and graphics–is $55,000 and includes a limited 2-year 24,000 mile warranty.
If all that impressive Exorcist flavor isn’t enough for you, Hennessey is also offering an optional drag pack which includes a pair of 20-inch wheels with 315/30-20 Nitto drag radial tires, a drive shaft upgrade, a floor jack and a tool kit for just $8,995. You can also opt for the road race pack–an even more intense enhancement that includes a set of 20-inch light weight Hennessey wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires for a fee of $6,995.
Best of all, you can have your Exorcist vehicle delivered to Hennessey’s ¼ mile dragstrip (Lonestar Motorsports Park) near Houston, TX for the kind of fun some can only dream of.
Order your Exorcist-enhanced 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 today. Ray Chevrolet has plenty of gorgeous ZL1s on the lot for you to choose from–but hurry because Hennessey Performance will only build 100 Exorcist vehicles each year!
Just because the Chevy Trax is only a few years old, doesn’t mean this unique mini-SUV hasn’t achieved a big-time following. For 2017, Chevy is releasing an updated version of the Trax that’s sure to broaden its appeal and convert more drivers than ever before to the cult of Chevy Trax excellence.
The 2017 Chevy Trax might be a mini-SUV but it’s remarkably spacious inside. With room for two riders up front and three passengers in the back, you won’t have to sacrifice your spot in the carpool if you opt for the Trax’s compact, utilitarian feel. The cabin provides ample legroom and headroom for even the tallest teen–there’s even room to spare when you need to cart around some extra cargo during weekend excursions. Fold the Trax’s rear seats down and you’ll end up with an impressively spacious cargo area of 48.4 cubic feet.
Our favorite thing about the Trax’s interior, however, is its suite of stellar technological features. From the 7.0-inch dashboard touchscreen command center to the vehicle’s Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system, the 2017 Chevy Trax boasts the latest and greatest of GM’s innovative tech. Best of all, the vehicle comes standard with its own 4G LTW connectivity via a Wi-Fi hotspot. No matter where you go, you’ll always feel connected in the Trax.
Outside, the Chevy Trax has some of the sharpest design features we’ve seen on any car in the segment. The 2017 model includes upgrades on the vehicle’s grille and rear, plus available halogen reflector headlamps and an option to spring for 18-inch aluminum wheels. (The 2017 Trax comes standard with 16-inch steel wheels.)
Under the hood, the Trax continues its reputation for excellence with an Ecotec 1.4-liter, four-cylinder turbo engine paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The ultra-quiet, efficient engine is capable of producing up to 138 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque. The 2017 model is available with either all-wheel or front-wheel drive–front-wheel drive comes standard–and mileage ratings that are sure to please even the pickiest drivers.
The new Trax’s official fuel milage numbers are 25 city/33 highway/28 combined. You’ll get about 14 gallons per fuel tank, making this latest Chevy vehicle a top efficiency contender in the mini-SUV market.
The 2017 Trax’s other notable features include keyless start and keyless open, a standard five-year OnStar Basic Plan for access to roadside assistance, ten standard airbags, Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, a rear camera and park assist.
Back last year, at the 2015 SEMA show in Las Vegas, Nevada, the good folks over at Chevrolet gave us our first glimpse of their new Redline series special editions in the form of a few concepts. These were sleek vehicles complete with blacked out wheels with sexy red has marks, black grilles with black Chevy bowties, and black nameplates complete with red outlines. To say the least, the Redline special edition concepts from SEMA looked gorgeous—like something out of the latest spy movie. Nevertheless, as these things go, we as consumers usually do not know what is going to survive the leap from concept to production vehicle. Well, if you were a fan of this blacked-out Chevy Redline special edition, then prepare to have your dreams come true.
That is to say, at this year’s Chicago Auto Show, Chevrolet unveiled their new production line of Redline special editions that include the likes of cars, pickups, and CUVs, all keeping the original concept look from back at last year’s SEMA. “Redline is another example of Chevrolet bringing SEMA concepts to showrooms,” noted Brian Sweeney, Vice President of United States Sales Operations over at Chevrolet. “The SEMA show has proven to be a great way to identify customization trends in the industry and quickly apply those trends to our most popular Chevrolet models. Based on the strong interest Redline attracted at the [SEMA] show, we believe they will be very popular with customers looking for standout cars, trucks, and crossovers.”
Too, not to mention, there are vehicle-specific Redline special edition trends that include such things as red tow hooks with regard to the Silverado and Colorado, as well as black has marks for the Camaro. The full list of vehicles to receive the Redline makeover is as follows: the Cruze LT-trim compact sedan and hatchback, the Malibu LT midsize sedan, the Camaro LT/SS sports coupe and convertible, the Trax LT compact CUV, the Equinox LT 5-passenger CUV, the Traverse Premier large CUV, the Colorado LT midsize pickup, and the Silverado Double Cab LT Z71 and Crew Cab LTZ Z71 large pickups.
“Our special-edition lineup has been popular with customers and dealers alike,” Sweeney continues. “Since the introduction of special editions on vehicles like the Silverado and Camaro, vehicle average transcription prices have increased, time-to-turn has decreased, and conquest rates have risen, which has contributed to making Chevrolet the fastest-growing brand in the industry two years in a row.”
As is always the case, keep checking back in over here with us at Ray Chevrolet for more information with regard to Chevy’s new Redline Special Editions. Too, while you are at it, why not stop by and sign up to test drive one of our many new lot vehicles? We can promise to do everything in our power to help you find the perfect vehicle!
Chevy dealers near you will soon be home to one of the automaker’s most innovative vehicles yet: the 2017 Chevy Bolt EV. The first affordable battery-electric vehicle with 200-plus miles of rated range has turned heads and blown minds since it was first introduced at last year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Last Vegas.
Created with the ideas and input of Volt owners in mind, the 2017 Chevy Bolt EV is packed full of advanced connectivity tech designed to enhance and personalize the driving experience. But, most importantly, Chevy has spent a ton of time using the 2017 Bolt as a springboard to revolutionize the driving experience itself.
The new Bolt will be capable of DC fast charging, meaning that drivers will be able to charge their vehicles up to 80 kilowatts–a full 30 kW more than the maximum output of most DCFC Combo stations. That means that the 2017 Bolt will be able to recharge from a depleted battery to an estimated 90 miles of driving range in just 30 minutes.
These new updates only affirm the Bolt’s status as a major landmark vehicle, but anyone who has had the pleasure of driving this innovative, unique vehicle could’ve told you as much. Though the Bolt has received a lot of credit for its remarkable efficiency, every Fox Lake Chevy dealer can agree that its incredible range of high-functioning tech warrants just as much praise.
“The Bolt EV is capable of using the latest mobile app technology to enable car sharing, advanced GPS routing and gamification, all designed to enhance the ownership experience now and into the future,” Mary Barra, GM Chairman and CEO, summarized in a recent interview. That’s right–the Bolt’s “gamification” abilities allow you to “compete” with other Bolt owners to see who is driving with the most efficiency. Chevy believes components like this will encourage drivers to take full advantage of the car’s long-range capabilities.
The Bolt EV features Bluetooth low-energy which is specially designed to minimize energy draw while connecting seamlessly to your smart phone as soon as you approach the vehicle. All 2017 Bolt EVs come with driver-focused technologies like OnStar 4G LTE–a handy piece of tech that turns your vehicle into a Wi-Fi hotspot, ensuring you never have to go without access to your favorite apps and services.
Your 2017 Bolt will also come with a 10.2” MyLink color touchscreen display, Surround Vision (a unique safety feature that allows you to see everything around the vehicle while driving at low speeds or parking), EV-specific Navigation Mapping and Chevy’s all-new MyChevrolet Mobile App. The app includes information on the vehicle’s charge status, remote start, cabin pre-conditioning and dealer service scheduling.
Visit your favorite Fox Lake, IL Chevy dealer for more information today or stop by Ray Chevrolet for a test drive you won’t forget.
Looking to make the most of the energy efficiency standards expected by most drivers in the 21st century, General Motors is taking a bold step in bringing more energy-conscious options to the U.S. than ever before. With the help of a worldwide network of unique automotive markets operating in sync, the industry leading automaker has finalized plans to deliver some unusual specimens to Chevrolet dealerships across the States.
Building Steam for U.S. Diesel
One big way in which the U.S. differs from many other global automotive markets is in the popularity of diesel vehicles. Particularly after diesel leader Volkwagen’s difficulties with its recent emissions scandal, it seems that the domestic diesel market now suffers from a lack of both enticing options and customer interest. By leveraging the continuing popularity of diesel in other parts of the world in which it operates, however, GM now plans to revive the diesel variation of its popular Cruze compact car, along with new diesel versions of the 2018 Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain SUVs, that it hopes will capably address both of those missing pieces in the U.S. diesel market.
The Value of Global Teamwork
General Motors’ approach to the matter presents the ideal combination of a simple equation that also makes a big statement. By thinking globally and using worldwide resources to take smarter risks and bolder steps, the company offers a compelling take on the benefits of conscientious global business. In any reasonable appraisal, it’s clear that the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze diesel and its new colleagues would never have been brought to life without the help of a well-connected and considerate network of global operations.
The First of Many
These powerful, energy-efficient options, already making their way into Chevy dealers across the country and set to be available everywhere by the end of the year, will only be the first in a new wave of focused diesel production. Along with the diesel trucks already produced by General Motors, a class in which diesel remains significantly more popular, the company expects to have 10 total diesel options available for U.S. drivers by the end of 2017.
Stay Informed Right Here!
It’s only one of many exciting innovations taking place at General Motors this year so be sure to keep a close eye on us here for all of the upcoming news. The 2017 Chevy Cruze diesel, available in regular compact and a successful hatchback versions, stands at the ready to show you just why so much of the world trusts G.M. to deliver when it comes to affordable, capable, and up-to-date energy-efficient vehicles. You can learn all you’ll need to know about the benefits of diesel and the award-winning excellence of Chevy’s current lineup, right here at Ray Chevrolet, anytime!

In the automotive world, it is sometimes what seems like tiny steps that can have the greatest impact with regard to how we experience/use our vehicles. Too, just like in the real world, sometimes good ideas within the automotive community are not seen as “good” when then are first introduced. The folks over at Chevrolet kind of had to learn this the hard way, after a botched attempt to mock what they called the Ford F-150’s “man step” (which was a step that came built-in to the F-150 pickup’s tailgate, obviously sliding out and giving the owner an extra lift into the back of the vehicle) back in 2009. But, too, it should never be said that the automotive world is not a forgiving world. That is to say, General Motors (GM) has since (it seems) learned from their longtime rival in that a patent was just granted back in December of 2016 for a pickup bed tailgate step that (by the looks of things) we should be seeing as soon as the upcoming 2019 Chevrolet Silverado.
GM's Design is Above the Rest
General Motor’s tailgate step does seem to be a step-up (pardon the pun) from Ford’s, however. That is, the step itself is physically larger and wider than the other, housing, too, a back—of sorts—to the lower step (which means you will not slid your foot all the way through the lower ladder rung with GM’s model—something that seemed very possible with Ford’s). Nevertheless, what is cool about this system is that the entire mechanism is housed inside the tailgate, according to the patent. This means that, when one just so happens to open the tailgate, the steps proceed to unfurl themselves toward the ground, providing a nice little ladder system to your truck’s bed.
Honestly, all this goes to show that a good idea is a good idea, across the board. General Motors picking up on Ford’s model and adapting such a thing to fit their brand’s vision is what makes market competition so great. In any event, we are assuming that such a thing will be present on the new Chevy Silverado, seeing as the good folks over at GM are already in the midst of building such a thing, as well as the timing of the patent simply being too coincidental to ignore.

When you think of the top electric vehicles on the market today your mind might go to Tesla– specifically to the Tesla Model S considering all the media buzz that has swirled around it. The Tesla cars are certainly flashy, but do they actually pass muster when it comes to the factors that count the most?
When the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) put the 2016 Tesla Model S to the test, it was rejected for the institute’s “Top Safety Pick” honor due to its poor safety ratings. Despite all the assumptions made about the Tesla’s high class abilities, a much more practical and reasonably priced vehicle blew it out of the water.
The 2017 Chevy Volt left the Tesla Model S in the dust and landed the IIHS’s Top Safety Pick+, cementing the Volt as a top contender in the EV field.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety pointed to the Chevy Volt’s exceptional adaptability as one of the reasons it received the organization’s top honor.
“The 2017 Volt can be optionally equipped with either an advanced- or superior-rated front crash prevention system,” the IIHS said in a press release. “It earns a good rating for headlights when equipped with optional high-beam assist, which automatically switches between high beams and low beams based on the presence of other vehicles. Without high-beam assist, the Volt’s headlights are acceptable,” the institute continued.
To be chosen as a vehicle worthy of the IIHS’s Top Safety Pick+ honor, a vehicle must earn “Good” ratings in all five crashworthiness evaluations. The evaluations test the car for its endurance in five different crash scenarios to find weaknesses in these areas: small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints. A Top Safety Pick+ vehicle must also possess a front crash prevention system capable of earning an “Advanced” or “Superior” rating. To clinch the superlative “Plus” award, a vehicle also needs to feature “Good” or “Acceptable” headlights.
Other safety features available for the Chevy Volt include automatic parking assist, forward automatic braking, forward collision alert, lane keep assist, rear cross traffic alert, a rear vision camera, and a suite of airbags designed to protect passengers in every seat. In addition, the Volt comes standard with OnStar, offering automatic crash response, crisis assist and emergency services to keep you and your family safe no matter where you are.
The 2017 Chevy Volt is available from Chevy dealers today. Come see us at Ray Chevrolet to find out which trim level will best suit your family’s needs, get an up-close look at the Volt’s award-winning safety features, and even take one out for a spin today. We guarantee you won’t regret it.
With an all-new and clearly improved generation of the sturdy Chevrolet Traverse freshly unveiled at this year’s North American International Auto Show last month, we couldn’t be happier to see just how much of a big welcome it’s been receiving from both fans and experts in the automotive media. Of course, there’s no shortage of things to praise in the considerately upgraded 2018 Chevy Traverse, which includes more options and cutting-edge accommodations than a wide range of the popular competition. With the results now pouring in from all over, we’ve got plenty of glowing reviews and positive opinions to share about this best-seller in the making.
So, What Does the 2018 Traverse Have to Offer?
Collecting a thorough array of statements made in regard to the new Traverse by some of the automotive industry’s biggest and most trusted media outlets, hard-working journalists at Auto News have made it particularly easy to get excited about the muscular crossover poised to set some new high marks at Chevy and beyond. Here, we present some of the most common subjects and feelings shared by those statements, including those from outlets including Car and Driver, Consumer Reports, and the New York Daily News, to help you get a good idea of what to expect.
By and large, reviewers are finding the new generation of Traverse to be a decidedly more truck-like affair, at least in terms of profile. In the big picture, the new model is actually slimmed down a bit, albeit with plenty of new angles and athletic body paneling added to notch-up the rugged styling. A notable increase in both passenger and cargo space also allows the 2018 Traverse to achieve a coveted best-in-class rating, and towing capacity sees a boost as well. All in all, reviewers have been in agreement that the new Traverse is going to present some capable competition to the fierce crossover market, with plenty of attention paid to attractive image, thorough utility capabilities, and up-to-date accommodations.
A Buffet of Options
Beyond those basics, critics of all kinds are also finding it easy to praise the scope of options that Chevy is making available with the 2018 Traverse. The new model will bring five trim options along, a selection that’s been expanded to include two all-new trims including a sport-tuned RS version that gets plenty of kick from a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and adds plenty of image enhancements, and the classy High Country edition that delivers lavish additional styling and enhanced accommodations for those with a hunger for luxury. Add to that the choice between two powertrains designed to meet the needs of different driving styles, and you’ve got yourself one truly multi-talented vehicle. In that department, the 2018 Traverse went as far as to inspire Steven Ewing of Motor1.com to call it “all the crossover you could ever need…and then some.”
Get to Know the 2018 Traverse in Person!
With the new Traverse set to arrive in U.S. showrooms this summer, you can bet that we’ll be ready to welcome it with open arms and give it plenty of room to show off all of its myriad strengths. As always, there’s no better way to get to know a vehicle than by seeing it up close and getting behind the wheel, and there’s still no better place than Ray Chevrolet to do it! We’ll be more than prepared to give you a first-class introduction anytime you’re ready, and in the meantime you can find plenty more news about related developments right here at our blog.
So, by the looks of things, Chevrolet is looking to very much slim down their popular crossover SUV, the Traverse. That is to say, with the current generation model of the highly sought after Chevy Traverse, the automaker shed a whopping 300 pounds from the vehicle in the form of its use of higher strength steel. “it is one hundred percent steel,” Chevrolet Program Engineering Manager Brian Sholte told the world.
Now, let’s talk numbers for a second, shall we? Noted specs for the 2016 model Chevrolet Traverse noted that the crossover had a curb weight of around 4,713 pounds, which is still—if we are being honest—pretty light with regard to crossover SUVs. In any event, the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse, at its very base, has an approximate curb weight of 4,362 pounds (note, this is only regarding the front wheel drive version of the vehicle). Of course, such numbers would just be rumors and speculations if it were not for Chevrolet Spokeswomen Tara Kuhen, who made the weight loss announcement a few days ago when she declared that the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse had officially dropped 363 pounds from its overall curb weight.
Though this might not sound like a big deal, an over 300-pound weight loss for a vehicle is actually really huge, and Sholte chops it all up to the automaker opting for steel over aluminum. Now, aluminum long been the standard go-to with regard to making a lightweight vehicle, but Sholte and company opted for a different option. Instead, the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse sheds its 300-plus pounds by “positioning high strength steels in the correct locations of the vehicle” as well as “optimizing the door weights” via a higher strength steel reinforcement topped with even lighter steels for the more cosmetic areas of the vehicle. All in all, everything in the new 2018 Chevrolet Traverse comes down to steel. “There’s more press-hardened in the vehicle than in the past,” Sholte continues. “Pretty much in the safety-critical areas.”
Chevy revealed its 2018 Traverse at the 2017 North American International Auto Show on January 9th with a ton of cool standard features that are sure to make this a best selling vehicle. These features include (but are not limited to) the likes of “D-Optic” headlamps, an autobraking system, what Chevy terms “Surround Vision” (as per the automaker, Surround Vision “uses strategically located cameras on all sides of the vehicle that provide a 360-degree bird’s-eye view of the vehicle, helping drivers quickly view the surrounding area at a glance for more confident maneuvering when reversing, parking, or trailering), and much more.

Liz Frohling has held many positions at Ray Chevrolet in the last 17 years. Liz started her career at Ray Chevy back in 2000 as a customer service representative and has since advanced within the Ray Chevy family.
From a customer service rep, Liz was moved up to the service advisor position.
“I took care of the customers which is our dealership's main goal; to take care of the customers,” Liz explained.
She then moved up once again to dispatching and was also the assistant service manager. Now the service manager at Ray Chevrolet in Fox Lake, she believes a lot of customers, especially females, point her out. Liz explains that the female customers feel at ease speaking with her because she is a female in a traditionally male held position.
One important detail Liz mentioned was her relationship with clients.
“Ray Chevrolet is different than other dealerships because of its customer retention,” she said. Customers will come in to see her and spark a conversation like a good friend. Through the years Liz has enjoyed working with the owners of Ray Chevrolet and all her fellow co-workers. “We all get a long and are like family,” she said.
Ray Chevy would like to thank Liz for her outstanding performance and dedication!
We all know by now that Gotham City—the place where Batman ceaselessly fights his infamous rouges gallery, which, of course, includes the likes of the Joker, Catwoman, Penguin, Deacon Blackfire, the Riddler, the Mad Hatter, Scarecrow, Calendar Man, Clayface, and many more—is basically Chicago, right? I mean, I think Christopher Nolan established such a thing in his excellent Dark Knight series of films. Sadly, thought, the last time Chicagoans were able to see Batman and his like tear it up on the streets of Chicago was back in 2012 with Nolan’s final instalment in his Batman trilogy: The Dark Knight Rises. Well, fret not ye citizens of Gotham City! For the Batmobile will make a triumphant return to our fair town, though, admittedly, with quite a different look. That is to say, the good folks over at Chevrolet have partnered with the equally good folks Warner Bros. and DC to tour a life-sized LEGO (yes, real LEGO) version of the Batmobile that can be seen in the upcoming film The LEGO Batman Movie.
Needless to say, this is an amazing feet—made better, in all honesty, by the fact that Chevy have turned many peoples’ first dream car into a gorgeous LEGO reality. Still though, just because the automaker’s Batmobile is essentially made of plastic bricks, this certainly does not mean that an incredible amount of time and artistry did not go into such a thing. In fact, Chevrolet’s life-sized LEGO Batmobile is a whopping 17-feet long, 6.92 feet tall, and 9.25 feet wide. Too, builders used an insane 344,187 individual LEGO bricks to build the Dark Knights famous vehicle, which took them—as you can guess—quite a while to do: well over 1,833 hours, to be exact.
The much anticipated LEGO Batman Movie is directed by Chris McKay, is a spinoff of the incredibly charming and critically acclaimed 2014 film The LEGO Movie. Will Arnett returns to play his instantly iconic LEGO Batman character, but he is certainly not alone. That is, The LEGO Batman Movie also features a few other returning Hollywood superstars like Jonah Hill (who voices the Green Lantern) and Channing Tatum (who lends his voice to the iconic Superman). Also joining the LEGO Movie veterans are a whole bunch of megastars to be excited over: Michael Cera as Robin, Batman’s longtime crime fighting partner; Rosario Dawson as the always underrated Batgirl; the amazing Ralph Fiennes as Alfred, Batman’s loyal butler, the hilarious Zach Galifianakis as (gasp!) the Joker, as well as the equally hilarious Jenny Slate as Harley Quinn, the Joker’s loyal to a fault sidekick.
Chevrolet’s life-sized LEGO Batmobile was be at the Chicago Auto Show that just wrapped up!

Not too long ago, at the National Biodiesel Conference, John Schwegman (who is the director of commercial product and medium duty for GM Fleet) announced some pretty awesome news with regard to Chevrolet’s biodiesel future. That is to say, Schwegman announced a horde of new B20-capable vehicles that General Motors will be adding for commercial, retail, and fleet customers. This is big news, as such a thing offers a relatively cleaner alternative to a typical gas-powered vehicle. And the list of biodiesel-capable cars that General Motors is already churning out is quite impressive. This list includes the likes of the Chevrolet Express full-size vans, the Silverado HD full-size pickups, the Colorado midsize pickup, the Low Cab Forward commercial truck, the 2017 Cruze compact car, and the 2018 Equinox compact crossover SUV.
Of course, we have all heard by now that a diesel version of the Chevrolet Cruze is expected to hit the market in the Spring (in both its sedan and hatchback forms). This version will boast a 1.6-liter turbo-diesel engine that is coupled with the customer’s choice of either a standard six-speed manual transmission or a nine-speed automatic transmission. Too, the vehicle is expected, by the EPA, to get an impressive 46 miles per gallon on the highway when it comes to fuel economy. (There are, however, some pretty persistent rumors that suggest that number to be more so in the 50 miles per gallon mark.)
On top of the new diesel Cruze, the 2018 Chevy Equinox diesel is expected to hit the market sometime this summer, and is slated to be one of the first diesel-powered combat crossovers to be sold in North America. The folks over at General Motors have put a fairly conservative 40 miles per gallon estimate on the highway for the 2018 Equinox, but the EPA has yet to rate this vehicle.
And don’t think Chevrolet has forgotten about the brand’s fleet/commercial sections. In fact, Schwegman makes special mention of such a thing: “With biodiesel production and retail distribution expanding, and so many proven benefits, we believe more fleets will embrace the technology as part of their sustainability plans,” he says. That is, the 2017 Silverado HD will come with a refigured Duramax 6.6-liter V8 turbo-diesel that’ll push 445 horsepower.
Of course, this is all in the vein of a more eco-conscious business model for GM. “If our diesel customers fueled exclusively with B20,” Schwegman notes, “we estimate that consumption of petroleum-based fuels could be reduced by hundreds of millions gallons annually.” I think we can all agree that this would certainly be a good thing.
As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Ray Chevrolet for more information with regard to Chevrolet’s influx of biodiesel vehicles. Too, while you are at it, why not stop by and sign up to test drive one of our many new lot vehicles? We can promise to do everything in our power to help find the perfect vehicle for you!
If you’re looking for a full-size power in a mid-size truck, then the 2017 Chevy Colorado is the right way to go.
Slotted right below its big brother, the Chevy Silverado –this year’s Colorado is equipped with a brand new 3.6L V-6 LGZ engine, that not only offers a little more horsepower, but a little more pound-feet of torque as well – 308 hp plus 275 lb-ft of torque – something pick-up enthusiasts can actually get excited about.
The new LGZ motor is modeled after the Camaro, LaCrosse and Acadia’s LGX V6 and features an Active Fuel Management system which shuts off two cylinders when hauling lighter loads to boost fuel economy.
The 2017 Colorado also offers a Hydra-Matic 8L45 eight speed automatic - composed of aluminum and magnesium to maintain its weight and improve acceleration from a stop.
Other engine displacements include the 2.5L I-4 LCV and 2.8L I-4 LWN Duramax Turbo-Diesel both of which are married to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Elaborating more on Ray Chevrolet’s earlier reference to the Chevy Silverado as a slightly smaller version of the full-size pickup, the Colorado is actually more slender - giving drivers about 6 inches of extra space to maneuver in tight spaces.
The new Colorado has been praised for its car-like feel with an interior capacity similar to that of the Chevy Impala. A roomy cabin and available heated front seats on the LT trim level makes long commutes ideal in this pick-up.
The 2017 Colorado comes equipped with a 7-inch diagonal Color Touchscreen MyLink radio IOB with teen driver mode. The available LPO-level protective rear seat cover is offered this year on LT and Z71 Crew Cab models.
Chevy decided to discontinue the Colorado Midnight Edition and the Colorado Z71 Trail Boss models, but decided to keep the Z71 Midnight Edition, while adding the Custom Special Edition for the Work Truck trim level.
The Custom Special Edition features body-color grille, rear bumper, manual folding mirrors and door handles, plus 18″ Dark Argent Metallic cast aluminum wheels.
New exterior paint hues on the Colorado include Orange Burst Metallic, Graphite Metallic, Cajun Red Tintcoat, and Laser Blue.
With everything this truck has to offer, $45,000 gets you a lot of power at a pretty good price.
Last month, Kelley Blue Book made a big announcement that’s sure to please Chevy owners: Chevy vehicles have been honored with five more incredible awards from Kelley Blue Book’s 15th annual Best Resale Value Awards.
The Best Resale Value Awards recognize vehicles for retained value over the first five years of ownership. This year, Chevy won three category awards and two overall top 10 awards at the ceremony which took place at the National Auto Dealers Association conference in New Orleans. The awards are:
- Best Electric Vehicle: 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV
- Best Full-Size SUV/Crossover: 2017 Chevrolet Suburban
- Best Full-Size Pickup Truck: 2017 Chevrolet Silverado HD
The two overall top 10 awards went to the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado and the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado.
These big wins for Chevy are confirmation of what many drivers already know: Chevy cars mean quality and longevity. The KBB Best Resale Value Awards specifically honor vehicles with the best resale value, which means Chevy cars top the list nearly every single year. But if you’re still not sure why resale value is such an important component of a car’s portfolio, here’s why:
The awards recognize automakers who produce vehicles that best retain their value over the first five years (60 months) of new-vehicle ownership. Those 60 months are absolutely crucial to the long-term value of your vehicle and they’re imperative to keeping your transportation costs to a minimum. Even if you love your car, truck or SUV to death, you’re still probably going to want or need to sell it one day, and you want to be sure that the vehicle doesn’t depreciate in value faster than you can sell it for a reasonable price. Your total ownership cost will be impacted by which side of the divide you fall on–you don’t want to be stuck taking a huge loss on your investment.
Kelley Blue Book helps consumers make smart, informed choices by singling out the automakers and vehicles which are guaranteed to give you a decent return on your investment. They do this by configuring resale value projections that take into account current vehicle data, sales data, market conditions for each vehicle, competition within vehicle segments, expectations of the future economy, and the combined experience of KBB’s team of market and pricing analysts.
At the end of the day, when all the numbers have been crunched and all the receipts have been double-checked, Chevy comes out on top. Invest in your future and the future of your financial health–make your next car a Chevy.

For 5 years in a row, Ray Chevrolet has been named the #1 Fleet and Commercial Dealer in the North Central Region. And with an increased 18% of sales over the previous year, they have been now awarded the #1 Business Elite Dealer in the entire nation. This is a top honor, as competition in this space is very aggressive for the Chevrolet brand.
To qualify as a Business Elite partner, dealerships must create a dedicated Business Elite sales force, receive specialized GM commercial vehicle training, invest in specialized facilities and equipment to service the vehicles, and sell a minimum number of vehicles per year.
"It's an accomplishment just to qualify as a Business Elite dealer," said Ray Chevrolet owner Ray Scarpelli. "To be ranked #1 in the country is a testament to the quality of the people who work here."
Presenting the award was Susan K. Keenehan, Chevrolet Regional Director for the North Central Region, who congratulated Ray Chevrolet on its outstanding commercial sales performance. "This marks the fifth year in a row that Ray Chevrolet has won the regional trophy for commercial sales leadership,"
Scarpelli praised his commercial sales and service staff for their knowledge of their customers' businesses. "We take the time to learn how their businesses operate, what their goals are, and the types of vehicles they require to reach those goals," Scarpelli said. "Understanding the fleet needs of businesses in the community is vital because our success is dependent on their success."

When General Motors (GM) dropped the news not too long ago anent their all-electric Chevrolet Bolt EV, we here at Ray Chevrolet were excited to say the least. However, unfortunately only a very small number of units were sent over to California, which obviously only satisfies a small number of customers who have been able to get their hands on the vehicle. However, General Motors have, subsequently, worked to fix such a problem. That is to say, the automaker recently noted that a “trainload” of Chevy Bolt EVs has been sent to California to satisfy the demand such a vehicle has there.
“Today and tomorrow [the Chevy Bolt EVs] are arriving ‘in volume’ and reportedly a trainload of Bolts sent to the San Francisco Bay Area depot in Milpitas and another in Southern California in Mira Loma are being trucked to dealers” noted Hybrid cars in a report with regard to the Chevy Bolt EV.
The 2017 Chevy Bolt EV works with a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack that stores 60.0 kilowatt-hours of energy—which equates to around 1.8 gallons of gasoline). This is enough power, according to the EPA, for the Chevrolet Bolt EV to earn a whopping 238-mile range rating. This range alone would be a huge selling point as far as the 2017 Chevy Bolt EV is concerned, but the vehicle has another trick up its proverbial sleeve in the form of its price. That is to say, the 2017 Bolt EV starts at around $37,495 in its LT trim form, but that does not factor in the $7,500 federal tax credit that works to chop the vehicle’s price down to under $30,000. To say the least, this is huge, as customers will be getting an amazing range out of their 2017 Chevy Bolt EV without having to put up Tesla-level prices.
In any event, the 2017 Chevy Bolt EV is, as of this writing, only shipping to Oregon and California. However, GM has announced plans to slowly begin shipments to other parts of the United States throughout the first half of the year. These states include the likes of Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont, just to name a few.
As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at your Fox Lake, IL Chevy dealer for more information with regard to the all-new Chevy Bolt EV. Too, while you are at it, why not stop by our location and sign up to test drive one of our many new lot vehicles? We can promise to do everything in our power to help you find the perfect vehicle!
If we are being honest, the approach that the new Chevy Bolt EV takes with regard to maintenance is kind of a dream. That is to say, Chevy recently announced that their new electric vehicle requires pretty much no maintenance (short of rotating the tires) for the first one hundred fifty thousand miles. This in and of itself is quite an achievement, but Chevy also notes that, even after the proverbial one hundred fifty thousand miles, the new Bolt EV, which, keep in mind, has a price tag of only $30,000, will only require the lowest of maintenance attention in order to keep the vehicle running in pristine condition.
Post the one hundred and fifty thousand mile mark, Chevrolet suggests a small—and, compared to most current vehicle’s maintenance schedules, pretty much non-existent—Maintenance schedule. This includes, according to the automaker, the likes of rotating the vehicle’s tires every 7,500 miles, replacing the air filter every 22,500 miles (which will cost you around fifteen bucks if you order one of these online), and flushing the Bolt EV’s coolant every 150,000 miles. Beyond these few and extremely simply tune-ups, that is practically it.
Essentially, what Chevrolet has done by making their new Bolt EVs maintenance so simple—as well as, again, practically nonexistent compared to the maintenance other vehicles require—is up the ante with regard to the already notable perks that come with purchasing an electric vehicle. Obviously, these perks include the likes of having a vehicle with a ton of torque that is also insanely quiet and runs off a cheaper power source (i.e., electricity) as compared to other gasoline models.
These perks, as well as the low-maintenance are just a number of enticing things to consider when you think about purchasing Chevy’s new Bolt EV. Not to mention, the new Bolt EV boast the ability to cover a distance of over 200 miles on a single battery charge. That would be an incredible feat on its own, but couple this with the aforementioned EV perks and low-maintenance requirement (as well as, need I remind you, that this thing is carrying a price tag of only $30,000), and you have got yourself a recipe of a top selling vehicle on today’s market, no doubt. Look for the all-new Chevrolet Bolt EV to serve very well for the bow-tie brand in the coming future.
As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Ray Chevrolet for more information with regard to the 2017 Chevy Bolt EV. Too, while you are at it, why not stop by our location and sign up to test drive one of our many new lot vehicles? We can promise to do everything in our power to help find the perfect vehicle for you!
This isn’t your average production-spec vehicle, in fact what GM had mind when it created the Colorado ZH2 concept, was a tactical Army truck capable of generating less heat, quiet performance, and greater power at zero rpm in remote areas of operation.
Developed as a project collaboration between GM and the U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC), the Chevy Colorado ZH2 is a fuel cell-powered off-road truck that has been fully designed to navigate the terrain of military life.
Having made its debut last year at the Army of the USA Conference in Washington, the ZH2 is looking to become a part of a growing fleet of tactical vehicles as the Army continues to make investments in the area of advanced automotive technology.
It seems GM is also betting on the future of advanced automotive technology having dedicated more than $3 billion in fuel-cell research and development alone over the past few years.
And the Colorado concept is a by-product of the automaker’s research, having been upgraded to a hulking 6000 pounds, while measuring six and a half feet wide and more than seven feet across, with 12 inches of ground clearance, to meet the Army’s required specs.
Inside, the ZH2 boasts four custom Recaro seats each with a multi-point harness, and a shoulder-height bar located behind the front seats used to secure the harnesses and provide stability during high speed maneuvers.
The vehicle’s rear window has been replaced with a rear-facing camera and side mirrors, while 37-inch off-road tires and a brand new suspension setup give the ZH2 the ability to handle tough terrain.
One feature that could prove vital to reconnaissance missions is the Colorado truck’s ability to turn hydrogen plus oxygen in the air into electricity - creating about two gallons of pure drinking water for troops while out in the field.
The ZH2 is also equipped with an inverter that produces about 25, 000 watts of power for an encampment without the heat and noise of a diesel generator.
Sources say the Army plans to conduct real-world testing of the viability of the ZH2’s features on the combat field this year. The truck could prove useful during “silent watch” patrols by achieving low heat signature and no engine noise.
If you’re looking for the perfect truck, look no further than your Fox Lake Chevy dealer.
The Camaro arrived in dealerships on Sept. 29, 1966 and customers were eager for Chevrolet’s entry in the new personal sports car segment. Sales of nearly 221,000 in its first year made the Camaro a success and firmly established its role in American popular culture.
In the 50 years since its introduction there have been six generations of the Camaro, all distinguished by styling that uncannily captured the design zeitgeist of their respective eras and performance technologies that remained sharply focused on the driving fun that made the original a hit from day one.
If you stepped back in time and told those Chevrolet designers and the assemblers at the plant that 50 years in the future people would be spending tens of thousands (sometimes hundreds of thousands) of dollars restoring and customizing these cars they would most likely think you were nuts. As much as we love our Camaros they were first designed to be affordable transportation with a sporty flair, and disposable. But the timeless styling of the Camaro has kept it firmly entrenched in the hearts of Chevy lovers everywhere.
A Google search for “Camaro reddit”, yields more than 633,000 results for the vehicle’s popular online forums – perhaps due to the car’s popularity in racing and custom body work. Chevy marketing execs say that of all their models’ fans, Camaro enthusiasts are by far the most zealous.
Kids tend to fall in love with Camaros through video games (it’s been in about 600 of them) and die-cast models (like the miniature blue ’68 custom job that was one of the original Hot Wheels Sweet 16). This past autumn, the UK-based graffiti design crew ilovedust was commissioned to create a 50th anniversary mural in the Camaro assembly plant near Detroit for an interactive video campaign.
Today’s Camaros are assembled in Lansing, Michigan, at GM’s Grand River plant, which just laid off 800 workers due to what execs call a seasonal sales slump. Camaro’s lead engineer, Al Oppenheiser, also blames the election: “People tend to hold back on buying a new toy like a performance car when they’re worried about the economy.”
Despite its legacy, however, the Camaro still manages to be surprisingly up to date. The new Camaro is equipped with enough 007 spying technology to make even Q envious. The “Teen Driver Mode” allows parents to control both their teenagers’ speeds and the Bose audio system volume. They can also get wireless updates on pretty much everything. The 2017 ZL 1LE Camaro PDR can even record your driving experience and play it back. “If you go to a nice restaurant and hand off your keys,” says Oppenheiser, “you can make sure the valet doesn’t use it to go for a Ferris Bueller spin.”
Stop by Ray Chevrolet today to take a ride in one of our Camaros, and you’ll see why this car has stood the test of half a century.
When General Motors first announced that it would be releasing a subcompact vehicle with a turbo engine and a six-speed manual gearbox, we weren’t sure what to expect, but we knew whatever came down the pipeline would probably be great. Then we found out that the new car was going to be called the Chevy Sonic and we knew it would definitely be great. Let’s be honest–a cool name never hurt anyone, right?
As it turns out, the Chevy Sonic is one of the best in its class in terms of value, reliability, efficiency and swagger. To date, it’s one of the snappiest, safest takes on the economy car we’ve ever seen. But what exactly is it that makes the 2017 Chevy Sonic RS Turbo stand out from the pack in such spectacular fashion?
First of all, the price is right. The 2017 Chevy Sonic can be yours for as little as $17,580 with vehicles in the top trim level topping out at just over $20,000. For your money, the Sonic delivers solid value–offering drivers an incredible range of features without turning their pockets inside out.
The 2017 Sonic has a restyled front fascia, lighting components with standard projectors and available LED running lights, three different wheel sizes and designs to choose from, and four fresh exterior color choices so you can pick the one that best matches your tastes. The freshly re-designed 2017 model’s rear tail lamps have been re-sculpted for a more modern feel and the vehicle’s oversized trapezoidal exhaust port adds to the hatchback’s unique personality.
Inside, you’ll find a new gauge cluster, a power driver’s seat, optional heated cloth seats and steering wheel, and a 7-inch digital touchscreen. The RS models, however, receive exclusive additions like logo emblazoned floor mats, piano black accent touches, an RS-badged D-cut steering wheel, and some sharp-looking red accent seat inserts.
Of course, it’s what under the hood that’s most exciting. The 2017 Chevy Sonic RS Turbo comes with a 1.4-liter turbo engine paired to a six-speed manual transmission. It’s compact, powerful and extremely fun to drive. Once you get the engine going, it holds revs up above 4,000 RPM for high speed cruising so you’ll be sure to impress no matter where you are. The Sonic is solidly efficient too, getting 28/38 MPG ratings from the EPA. The vehicle’s 12.2-gallon tank isn’t expensive to fill up and front-wheel drive configuration features boost the vehicles stability and traction, improving efficiency in the long run.
Are you ready to take a spin in the 2017 Chevy Sonic Turbo RS? Ray Chevrolet has you covered. Head on over for a test drive today and let us show you how you can enjoy all the fun, efficiency, and modern style the Sonic has to offer.
In a war akin to, say, King Kong vs. Godzilla or Hulk Hogan vs. the Ultimate Warrior, the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado and the 2017 Honda Ridgeline are in for one epic battle as far as pickup trucks are concerned. And too, with the pickup segment thought of in a lot of eyes as one of the most versatile, it is no wonder that such automotive giants are set to tackle one another. So, let’s put both of these vehicles to the test, shall we? I’m going to pit these two behemoths against each other in two distinct categories: power and price, in order to see which one truly holds sway over the other.
First let’s talk about power, starting with the 2017 Honda Ridgeline. This vehicle is said to run with a V6 engine that pushes 280 horsepower. This engine is combined with a six-speed automatic transmission and a standard front wheel drive drivetrain. As far as the 2017 Honda Ridgeline’s towing power is concerned, the vehicle is said to be able to pull around 3,500 pounds at its base level, and up to 5,000 pounds at some upper trim levels.
Not bad, but let’s compare the power of the 2017 Honda Ridgeline with that of the 2017 Chevy Colorado. That is to say, the Colorado works with two powertrain options right off the bat: the first is the base level 2017 Colorado, which offers an inline-4 engine with 200 horses. This is coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission that pulls a maximum of 7,000 pounds. The second engine is where things get intense. That is, Chevy also equips the 2017 Colorado with a V6 that pushes a whopping 308 horsepower and a max towing capacity of 7,700 pounds!
As far as pricing is concerned, the 2017 Honda Ridgeline boasts a Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price of $29,475 at its base level and around $43,000 with all the bells and whistles. That said, the 2017 Chevy Colorado has a Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price of $20,005 at its base level and tops out at $40,000 with all its proverbial bells and whistles.
All in all, with both power and price in mind, the winner between the 2017 Honda Ridgeline and the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado pickup trucks is quite clear: The Colorado comes out definitively on top.
As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Ray Chevrolet for more information with regard to the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado. As technology advances at a rapid rate each and every year, so too does the tech involved in building our cars. At the forefront of the automotive tech revolution is Chevrolet. Recent reports reveal that the vanguard automaker is using virtual reality to help it design its vehicles.
Actually, Chevy has been using virtual reality since 2014, when it was using its PowerWall software to model virtual prototypes of its vehicle components. The company has continued its dedication to utilizing the best, most cutting-edge technology over the years and is now investing heavily in VR technology by building the new 3D CAVE Automated Virtual Environment.
The CAVE Automated Virtual Environment is one of the most remarkable pieces of technology we’ve ever seen. The CAVE includes a 15-foot-wide by 8-foot-tall glass screen powered by a Barco 4K Digital Light-Processing stereo projector which is twice as powerful as an IMAX theater screen. The virtual environment includes a cockpit where designers, executives, and other observers sit while wearing VR headsets and antennae to track their movement. Bleacher seats give guests a full view of the product under testing as well.
“It is a very, very important part of the design process, and a cool place to hang out,” says John Cafaro, Chevrolet Global Design chief.
The CAVE uses 3DExcite DeltaGen software to turn raw data into life-like virtual 3D models. When a designer looks across the simulated cabin of the new 2018 Chevy Traverse, for example, onlookers get the same perspective since the Barco 4K LED projectors paint real-time images on the screens. The visualizations are so realistic that GM can now just skip the process of building time-consuming, expensive design prototypes altogether.
“We see things quickly, efficiently, and cheaply,” says Sam Lute, lead virtual-reality designer at GM.
The CAVE isn’t just great for Chevy engineers and executives though. It also opens the door for new developments by the company’s designers. The virtual reality experience helps designers gain a deeper understanding of elements like surfacing and color, allowing them to collaborate more efficiently with design studios and engineering units on industry challenges like human-machine interface as the reality of autonomous vehicles draws closer.
Already, virtual reality tools have played a key part in the redesign effort for the Chevy Traverse, one of the automaker’s most popular and profitable vehicles. VR was used to fine-tune the interior design of the 2014 Chevy Impala large sedan as well–designers were able to evaluate concepts for blindspots, reflections and visibility of objects inside and outside the vehicle purely via use of VR technology.

At Ray Chevrolet, we can’t think of much Chevrolet could do to make the Corvette any better, but they can’t ever stop thinking of possible improvement. While the current model looks as sharp and stylish as it ever has, Chevy has rethought the engine, and not for the first time. It’s not easy for a company like Chevrolet to make a change to such an iconic car. Why mess with success and risk alienating a dedicated nation of Vette-Heads? When it comes to adding power and improving fuel efficiency, we think the public will be as forgiving as we are.
Say Goodbye to Pushrods?
We will all have to wait another year before the new engine debuts, but the 6.2 liter V8, which has been given the codename LT5 by GM, will no longer employ pushrod valve actuation which has helped power Corvettes for the past 60 years. In a pushrod engine the valves are built into the cylinder head. At one time, this was much better than the flathead engine which put the cylinders in the cylinder head. Instead Chevy has opted to use a dual-overhead camshaft layout (DOHC for short) instead. The DOHC provides more power and adds efficiency and as we said, no one should have a problem with that.
More Rev, Less Grunt
What Chevrolet hopes to accomplish with this new engine is more rev and less grunt. This isn’t the company’s first experiment building a Vette with an engine sans pushrods. The first such engine, also granted the LT5 name, was used in the ZR-1. That engine was built by Mercury Marine and was used in the fourth generation C4 for five years starting in 1990.
Chevy has some other changes in the works for the Corvette in coming years. That’s if you want to believe the rumors that the company is tinkering with a mid-engine model. Yes, talk of a “Super Vette” has been circling for a while. If these whisperings are to be believed we could see that happen as early as the Detroit Auto Show in 2018. Here’s hoping.

We all know that crossovers are all the rage these days. Even with gas prices down and fairly stable, people seem to be tending to gravitate toward a vehicle big enough to cart around, say, groceries or children, but not something so big that they will be paying a fortune on gas. Of course, all automakers are well aware of this sort of thing happening, so, as a result, we have seen a boost in attention with regard to automakers pulling out all the stops and making sure a crossover is available in as many segments as possible. And Chevrolet’s no different. That is to say, the bow-tie brand just announced recently that they are pushing for a 2017 Spark Activ crossover (sort of), which will be one of the smallest to date.
Now, the “sort of” that I mentioned earlier means that the 2017 Spark Activ is not one hundred percent a crossover, but it definitely looks the part. That is to say, Chevrolet simply took the normal Spark and added a few features, which includes the likes of revised front and rear fascias and side skirts (both of which include metallic-looking accents), a fresh new grille, round fog lights, new roof rails, black plastic body cladding over the wheel arches, a suspension lift of around 0.4 inches, and model-specific 15-inch alloy wheels. All of these features combine to push for a look that certainly resembles a crossover, but is not quite, one hundred percent one. Nevertheless, the 2017 Spark Activ is perfect for anyone wanting that crossover style.
That is not to say that there are no perks other than a few crossover-like features. No, the 2017 Spark Activ also comes with heated leatherette front seats, cruise control, as well as a leather-wrapped steering wheel. This on top of the awesome features already included with the standard Spark: e.g., Chevrolet MyLink infotainment capabilities with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality, 4G LTE data, OnStar, three months of satellite radio, and air conditioning.
The 2017 Chevrolet Spark Activ will start at a base price of $16,945 for a manual and $18,045 for a CVT. Now, that may seem a bit much considering the entry-level Spark runs around $13,535, but given all the special attention Chevrolet is paying with regard to the 2017 Spark Activ, the price is definitely well worth it.

Chevy knows that busy families need practical solutions when it comes to their vehicles. However, Chevy also knows that finding the perfect car for your needs doesn’t have to mean sacrificing style or fun.
Return of the Chevy Cruze
We’re excited to see the return of the Chevy Cruze this year in its newest, most-family friendly iteration: the 2017 Chevy Cruze Hatch. The Cruze is the automaker’s best-selling car around the world, and for good reason: it checks all the boxes any young family could have in their search for a dream car.
The Cruze boasts excellent and functional design from the tips of its grille to the edges of its taillights. Inside, the Cruze’s dashboard is sleek and cool with a center stack that is roomy but not excessive. A luxe touchscreen, USB charge ports and a 12V jack mean that you’ll never have to worry about getting by without your smartphone whether you’re running errands around town or heading off on an epic family road trip.
The Perfect Vehicle for Road Trips
If road-tripping is your style, then the Cruze might as well be custom made for you. Featuring tons of legroom in the front and rear seats, ample cargo space and some of the comfiest seats you’ll find in any Chevy, the Cruze is ready to carry you wherever your heart desires–and with plenty of room to spare.
The vehicle’s turbocharged four-cylinder engine pumps out 152 horsepower, getting you from zero to 60 mph in roughly seven seconds. Whether you opt to take your Cruze out for a long journey on the open road or you’re just battling rush hour traffic on your way to soccer practice, you can expect to get some truly stellar gas mileage out of those four cylinders. The EPA estimates you’ll get about 31 MPG but test drivers report getting 35 MPG with ease.
If you’ve got teens who need to learn the ways of the road, the Cruze is tailor-made for you as well. The Cruze Hatch Premier comes with Teen Driver, a setting that enables parents to set limits on notorious distractions like radio volume and even forwards a report card to your phone with all the details of the ride, like hard stops, instances of speeding and more.
Outstanding Safety Features
You can rest easy no matter who’s behind the wheel of your 2017 Chevy Cruze Hatch thanks to its remarkable package of safety features. The vehicle comes with a suite of features including alerts for inadvertent lane change, blind spot alerts, rear cross traffic, forward collision, and rear park assist.
Chevrolet recently introduced its Colorado ZR2, its unique off-road pickup. With its innovative, Multimatic shocks and class-exclusive, front-and-rear locking differentials, the ZR2 goes head on against the Tacoma TRD Pro, until now the undisputed champ of midsize truck terrors. Looks like Chevy’s bringing the competition.
A Popular Truck Segment
With the explosion of the midsize truck segment in recent years, the challenge was inevitable. Toyota had owned the midsize segment until the Colorado and GMC Canyon entered the market followed by the Honda Ridgeline this year. While the GM twins and Honda emphasized their pickups’ comfort and drivability, Tacoma continued as king of the Outback.
But with the ZR2, the Chevy Colorado will change that.
The ZR2 comes from Chevy’s performance division. Like the ferocious, 650-horsepower Camaro ZL1, which is impressive both on and off the race track, the ZR2 aims to be both an off-road warrior and an on-road dancer.
“We assembled a dream team of GM truck enthusiasts in order to bring more off-road technology than any other truck in the class,” said GM North America President Alan Batey in introducing the ZR2 before the Los Angeles Auto Show.
The new ZR2 literally picks up where its predecessor leaves off, with a 2-inch suspension lift featuring unique spool-valve dampers from Multimatic, a company perhaps better known for its activities in Formula One. The unique shocks incorporate six different tuning curves up front, and four in the rear to cope with various surface conditions. And if the bodywork looks burlier, that's because it is -- the ZR2 is 3.5-inches wider than other Colorados.
In addition to its uprated suspension and wider track, the ZR2 features electronic locking diffs front and rear, as well as 31-inch Goodyear Duratrac tires mounted on 17-inch wheels, skid plates and an available bed-mounted spare tire carrier to improve off-road clearances. The latter just so happens to look cool, too.
Both Gas and Diesel Options
Impressively, the ZR2 will be offered with both gas and diesel engine choices, which should really appeal to the off-road faithful. The 3.6-liter gas V6 offers 308 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque, and the available Duramax 2.8-liter diesel serves up 181 hp and 369 pound-feet. An eight-speed Hydra-Matic 8L45 automatic is standard.
The new model will be pitted against other midsized mudders like Toyota's brand-new Tacoma TRD Pro and the Nissan Frontier Pro-4X. The ZR2 is distinguished by its robust front skid plate, robust, steel-tube rocker panels, black hood bulge and huge, 31-inch tires. It will tow up 5,000 pounds and carry 1,100 lbs. of payload. It was developed by GM after positive response to its ZR2 concept introduced her in LA in 2014. No word yet on pricing, but towing is still a capable 5,000 pounds, and payload is rated at 1,100 pounds.
With the ZR2, “you can go rock crawling on Saturday, desert running on Sunday, and comfortably drive to work on Monday,” said Mark Reuss, executive vice president, Global Product Development in a statement. “This truck can do it all, and do it all well.”
Oh man, it has been such an amazing year for Chevrolet—like to an incredible degree. That is to say, of course, that the bowtie brand has made it its duty to score as many awards in 2016 as they possibly can. This being the case, Chevy can add another eighteen (that’s right, eighteen) awards to its proverbial 2016 collection. By this I mean that the automaker recently scored an astronomical eighteen awards at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show, which took place over two press days and an additional Motor Trends event day.
Major Wins for Chevy
Feeling like a very proud parent at their numerous children’s award ceremony, Chevrolet saw nine vehicles take multiple prizes at the 2016 LA Auto Show. These winners include the likes of the Bolt EV, the Camaro, the Colorado, the Corvette, the Impala, the Malibu, the Silverado 1500, the Tahoe, and the Volt. Taking top prize as far as sheer numbers of awards earned is concerned, the Chevrolet Bolt EV snagged a whopping six wins, which includes an award for Car and Driver’s 10Best Cars, Car Connection’s Best EV to Buy, Car Connection’s Best Hatchback to Buy, Green Car Reports’ Best New Car to Buy, Green Car Journal’s Green Car of the Year, and Hispanic Motor Press’ Best EV/Plug-In Vehicle—needless to say, the Chevrolet Bolt EV sort of cleaned house.
Chevrolet’s other vehicle offerings faired quite well, too. That is to say, the Chevrolet Camaro took home awards for Car and Driver’s 10Best Cars and Hispanic Motor Press’ Best American Muscle. The Chevrolet Colorado scored an award for Consumer Guide Automotive’s Best Buy (Compact Pickup) as well as Hispanic Motor Press’ Best Pickup Medium Size. The Corvette—of course a Chevrolet classic—scored awards for AutoGuide.com’s Reader’s Choice Sports Car of the Year, Car and Driver’s 10Best Cars, and Consumer Guide Automotive’s Best Buy (Premium Sporty/Performance Car). The Impala racked up awards for Consumer Guide Automotive’s Best Buy (Large Car) and Kelley Blue Book’s 2017 Best Buy Award (Full-Size Car). The Malibu knocked it out of the part with regard to the Consumer Guide Automotive Best Buy (Midsize Car) award, while the Silverado 1500 earned the award for Consumer Guide Automotive’s Best Buy (Large Pickup). Also, the Tahoe scored an award for Kelley Blue Book’s 2017 Best Buy Award (Full-Size SUV). And finally, the Chevrolet Volt snagged top honors with regard to Consumer Guide Automotive’s Best Buy (Electric Car).
As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Ray Chevrolet for more information with regard to all the awards the automaker has been collecting during the 2016 sales year. Too, while you are at it, why not stop by and sign up to test drive one of our many new lot vehicles? We can promise to do everything in our power to find the perfect vehicle for you!
For the 2nd year in a row, Shop with a Firefighter brought smiles and laughter to a group of deserving children in the local community. On Friday, Dec. 9th, holiday cheer was spread all throughout the air at Ray Chevrolet and Ray Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram on Route 12 in Fox Lake when they partnered with the Fox Lake Fire department to bring gifts to local children.
The program made stops around town to brighten needy children's holidays by introducing them to firefighter personnel and they taught them what they do to help the community, along with receiving clothes and toys.
According to Ray Scarpelli, founder of Shop with a Firefighter in Fox Lake and owner of Ray Chevrolet and Ray Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, around 60 children participated in the program this year. Ages ranged from 5 to 14 years old.
Approximately 10 to 15 firefighters, led by the Fox Lake Fire Department, escorted groups of children to Ray Chevrolet and Ray Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram where all the children and their parents enjoyed a pizza party. Santa, Mrs. Claus and even their reindeer made an appearance.
"It's a great way to get the kids to meet the firefighters," Scarpelli said.
Not only did Scarpelli and Ray Chevrolet and Ray Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram donate a generous Walmart gift card to each child for their upcoming shopping trip with the firefighters, the Fox Lake Fire Department matched the donation with an additional gift card. Also, all of the employees got together to pick the children's names out of a hat, and gave them a special gift to unwrap as an added bonus.
To end the day, the firefighters took the children on a shopping spree at Walmart with the gift cards they received to pick out whatever they wanted. In past years, it's been said that some children are seen picking out clothes and items for family members instead of toys for themselves.
"It's the best day of the year," Scarpelli said. "The looks on the kid's faces-what a feeling."
The Ray Auto Group has been serving Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin for over 25 years. They feature new Chevrolets and Chryslers Dodge Jeeps and Rams along with a huge selection of used vehicles. A Full service department is available.
Chevrolet’s smaller sedan, the Cruze, saw a fairly large increase with regard to sales figures from September (with 15,216 units sold) to October (with 17,126 units sold). That is a sales increase of 9 percent which is a big deal and a huge increase from one month to the next. We have yet to see if Chevrolet can continue this upward mobility as far as the Cruze is concerned, but I am sure all signs are pointing to yes in this situation.
A Redesigned Cruze
For the 2016 model year, Chevrolet worked to do a massive redesign with regard to their Cruze model. That is to say, the vehicle is almost unrecognizable when compared with its previous generation model, but that certainly is not a bad thing. First of all, Chevrolet did a complete overhaul on the outside of the Cruze, creating a sharp, adventurous style that is a pretty stark difference when compared with its clunky, but still nice, and unassuming older sibling. Too, Chevrolet revamped the dashboard and infotainment system, providing fresh, cutting edge technology a new features.
Under the hood, Chevrolet packed the 2016 Cruze with a standard turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine, which Chevy also revamped from the previous model to up the 2016 Cruze’s horsepower by 15 and its pounds per square feet of torque by 29. And, seeing as the 2016 Cruze has also shed about 250 pounds, the engine as a whole has less work to do, which means that the overall vehicle is a faster, more reliable one that the previous model.
In addition to all of this, Chevrolet also added the MyLink touchscreen infotainment system to the 2016 Cruze, which has a much quicker response time (when compared to the previous versions) as well as both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration technology. Along with this, Chevy also added a Bose audio system, wireless phone charging, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel. Too, for those of us who are more safety-conscious, the 2016 Cruze Premier trim can be outfitted with advanced technologies such as lane-departure intervention as well as a forward collision alert system.
Looking at all of the things Chevrolet added to the revamped 2016 Cruze, it is honestly no wonder that the vehicle is seeing such good (and steadily increasing) sales figures.
As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Ray Chevrolet for more information with regard to the Chevy Cruze. Too, while you are at it, why not stop by and sign up to test drive one of our many new lot vehicles? We can promise to do everything in our power to help find the perfect vehicle for you!
If you’re the kind of Corvette lover that truly savors the race-car experience, then might we suggest that you consider Chevy’s 2017 Grand Sport.
Having first made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, the Grand Sport bares some striking resemblances to two other vehicles that it shares the same nameplate with - the entry level Stingray and range-topping Z06.
While enthusiasts might notice some uncanny similarities, make no mistake that the Chevrolet Grand Sport comes equipped with plenty of power to prove fans and critics alike that this is a vehicle that it can definitely hold its own.
Taking design cues from the slightly less powerful Stingray, the number three vehicle of the Corvette trio, has adopted the base model's standard interior plus upgrades, as well as its naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 engine.
On the flip side, the Grand Sport also takes on the same suspension, wheels and tires as the ferocious Z06.
Chevy's newest fast car comes track-ready with 19 and 20 inch summer-only Michelin tires and wide rear quarter panels to accommodate, electronic limited-slip differential, aggressive front splitter, rockers and a wickerbill rear spoiler, available Brembo carbon-ceramic units that fits Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, plus the brand's standard adaptive Magnetic Ride Control to lessen body roll.
And having adopted the kind of power and handling it has, Chevy says the Grand Sport is capable 460 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque, while accelerating to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds. Pair all of that with a seven-speed manual gearbox / eight-speed paddle-shift automatic and you have one of the fastest and best handling cars in its class.
But where there's potential for greatness in the race car market, there's sure to be viable competition as well.
Enter the new and improved Mustang GT500.
A legend in its own right, the GT350 first came on the scene back in 1965 when Carroll Shelby received the green light to design a high performance prototype of the original Mustang. Eventually known as "Cobra," the GT350R boasted a 289-cubic inch modified K-Code engine, high-riser intake manifold, Tri-Y header, metallic lined-Ford Galaxy drum brakes, and Kelsey-Hayes front disc brakes.
Despite everything that it was, what this Mustang was not, was a vehicle that came with many options and niceties. No backseat. No air conditioner. No transmission.
The GT350 was crafted strictly with the basics. The most important element of the Shelby Mustang was that it was born to race.
Fast forward to 2017, the GT350 offers even better performance than its highly qualified predecessors.
Track capable and race ready, the iconic Mustang comes standard with aluminum tower-to-tower brace, a high-downforce decklid spoiler, engine oil, transmission and differential coolers, and a MagneRide damping system.
The new high-end performance model boasts 5.2-liter V8 offers 526 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque and can go from 0-60 in 4.3 seconds, according to Ford.
Though the Mustang GT350 is classified as a pony car, its V8 engine sports four cams and 32 valves with an incredible 8250 rpm. That detail alone was enough to leave those of us here at Ray Chevrolet reveling in the vehicle’s pure, unadulterated power.
With high-functioning performance and all of the features and amenities that adorn the Corvette Grand Sport and the Ford Shelby GT, we couldn’t think of any two vehicles more worthy to grace Car and Driver’s 10 Best Cars list for 2017.
If you’re in the market for a four-door compact with high style and functionality (and just a little bit of attitude) then look no further than the new second-generation Chevy Cruze.
The Cruze embodies big-time accessibility and flair with a super affordable base price of just $17,850 and an array of strong features that make it more than worth its tag price. The standard 2017 Cruze model features a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine which produces 153 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque paired to a six-speed manual transmission. Although similar to the Cruze’s old engine, this one is 35 cubic centimeters larger, freshly designed and features a block cast of aluminum instead of iron, making it 44 pounds lighter than the old model. The difference in power is small but significant: the new 1.4T beats the old by 15 horsepower and 29 lb-ft of torque.
The Cruze’s new boost also comes from its trimmer figure. Chevrolet removed weight from almost every area of the 2017 model, including 24 pounds from the automatic transmission and 53 pounds from the steel unibody. The new vehicle is about 260 pounds lighter than the previous-generation Cruze LTZ and 199 pounds lighter than the non-turbo Cruze LS. The slim-down makes for a sleeker, speedier car: the new Cruze goes from 0 to 60 mph in 7.3 seconds, a full 1.3 seconds quicker than the old model. The 2017 model’s gas mileage benefitted too. The Cruze gets 30/42 MPG during city/highway driving.
Chevy’s new gem of a car takes its stellar updates from under the hood to inside the cabin with a high degree of modern smoothness. Refined styling meets upscale tech: the new Cruze comes with Chevy’s easy-to-use MyLink 7-inch touchscreen infotainment menu, storage cubbies and chrome accents galore, built-in Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, OnStar, a six-speaker audio system, cruise control, steering wheel-mounted audio and phone controls, Bluetooth capability, GM’s 4G LTE data connection, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
The new Cruze is also more spacious than ever. Both front and rear passengers enjoy ample head- and legroom, plenty of armrests and all the features you’d expect from any high-end luxury sedan–without the price tag!
Outside, the hits just keep coming with gorgeous 15-, 16- or 18-inch wheels (depending on which trim level you spring for), a baby-bottom smooth design and sophisticated chrome accents that set off every paint color for a sharp, fresh look every time.
Have we piqued your interest yet? Check out the all new, second-generation 2017 Chevy Cruze today at Ray Chevrolet. Make sure you bring the whole family and leave time for a test drive because this is one vehicle you definitely don’t want to miss out on.
The final model year for the
Our first glimpse of the new exterior color offerings came courtesy of a few spy shots taken outside of the GM plant in Elizabeth, Australia. The Chevy SS has been offered in a variety of interesting colors. You may remember some of their more interesting hues that have since been discontinued from the line such as Jungle Green Metallic , Mystic Green Metallic and Some Like It Hot Red Metallic .
As we mentioned, this is the final year of the SS Sedan line and the last model year to be produced by the GM-Holden production facility in South Australia. The SS Sedan is based on the Holden Commodore Series II which will also be discontinued after the 2017 model year.
The new colors for the SS sedan aren’t necessarily new for Chevy and are, in no order of preference, Orange Blast Metallic and Nightfall Gray Metallic. They are guaranteed to get you noticed as you cruise the block or just make a run to the grocery store.
The SS Sedan was designed to give drivers the best of both worlds: the power and great lines of a sports car and the class and style of a luxury sedan. The power comes courtesy of a 6.2 liter V8 engine that delivers an awesome 415 horsepower and matching torque. You can easily zip from zero to sixty provided you have 4.7 seconds to spare. Sport-tuned suspension, standard dual-mode exhaust and Bremo® brakes up the ante considerably.

Not that long ago, it seemed like the hatchback market in the United States was a lost cause. They just were not selling the way they seemed to be over in Europe. Due to this, there was not really a huge effort in place to keep such a thing going, so to speak. But there certainly were believers, and now, thanks to those aforementioned believers, a United States hatchback market is steadily growing and even, dare I say, becoming quite popular. I mean, all you have to do is look at the success with regard to hatchbacks from automakers such as the likes of Volkswagen, Ford, Mazda, Subaru, and Honda to see that this is absolutely a budding market over here. As of right now, hatchbacks are making up about fifteen percent of the market in the United States, and that figure is said to absolutely keep on growing as time moves forward.
Of course, due to this climb in popularity with regard to the popularity of hatchbacks in the United States, automakers other than Volkswagen, Ford, Mazda, Subaru, and Honda are looking to get in on the proverbial action, so to speak. One of those automakers happens to be Chevrolet, who announced not too long ago that the first Cruze hatchback will be available in the United States for the 2017 model year. This is, obviously, quite a big deal seeing as the normal Cruze is already one of the company’s most popular sedans, so introducing a hatchback model in the midst of this boom is just smart business on the bowtie brand’s part.
The 2017 Chevrolet Cruze hatchback will boast a 1.4-liter turbocharged I-4 gas engine that will be pushed by the customer’s choice of a six-speed manual transmission or an automatic transmission. This gives the vehicle somewhere in the ballpark of 153 horsepower and 177 pounds per square foot of torque, which also gives the vehicle a 0 – 60 time of 8.2 seconds and a quarter mile time of 16.3 seconds. Gas mileage is quite nice as well—that is, the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze hatchback an EPA rating of 29 miles per gallon in the city and 38 miles per gallon on the highway.
The new 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback in the United States starts at a base price of $23,065.
As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Ray Chevrolet for more information with regard to the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback. Too, while you are at it, why not stop by and sign up for a test drive of one of our many new lot vehicles? We can promise to do everything we can to help you find the perfect vehicle!
You heard it at your Fox Lake, IL Chevy dealer first, there’s no way the electric car is ever going away. General Motors, perhaps the biggest legacy brand in American history with over 108 years of automotive excellence under its belt, now sells a battery-electric hatchback that delivers over 200 miles of driving range for less than the price of the average new car.
That’s right–it’s only a matter of time before the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV makes a permanent mark on the history books. It’s a major milestone in the timeline of automotive innovation and it has mass appeal.
The Bolt starts at $37,495 in the LT trim, but a $7,500 federal tax credit pulls the price down under $30,000, making it the perfect choice for drivers across all tax brackets. Of course, the cost is a huge plus but the Bolt’s utility is what makes it a truly exciting vehicle: Its liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack stores 60.0 kilowatt-hours of energy (equivalent to roughly 1.8 gallons of gasoline). That’s enough to earn a 238-mile rating from the EPA.
A well-designed dashboard panel puts drivers’ minds at ease by showing three range numbers in its digital instrument panel: a minimum, a maximum and a best estimate based on your driving style and accessory usage (climate control, headlights, and audio) as well as ambient conditions. Gone are the days of driver anxiety over range–with the Bolt, you’ll never fear running out of juice unexpectedly or getting caught without access to power.
For most drivers, the 238-mile range means you’ll be able to get all your errands done in a day without needing to stop to plug in. Overnight charges should be more than enough to get the job done. If you ever have any problems, though, rest assured because the Bolt comes with an eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty.
The Bolt handles with a smoothness that will be familiar to Chevrolet fans. Its Michelin Energy Saver A/S tires deliver 0.78 g of grip around the skidpad while the low-mounted battery pack helps keep the overall handling flat. The exterior design is sleek, cool and fresh but without the ultra-futuristic look that might turn some consumers off.
Inside, the Bolt’s cabin is spacious and comfortable. Bolstered seats are wrapped in leather and the dash console features an impressive 10.2-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth connectivity to sync up your Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
If you’ve never been behind the wheel of a brand new EV, this is your big chance. Visit us at Ray Chevrolet for the type of experience your grandparents never thought possible. We’re also here to answer all your questions about how the technology works, how to charge your vehicle, and where charging stations in your area are located.

Chevrolet is hard at work with regard to their zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell technology, and, for the latest to come out of such a thing, the automaker is partnering up with the U.S. Army in order to try and figure out what interesting advantages come with fuel cell technology when such a thing is put in military mission situations. That is to say, Chevrolet has provided the U.S. Army with a Colorado ZH2, what is essentially a modified version of the Colorado midsize pickup Chevy produces for the consumer market with the engine compartment modified to accommodate a hydrogen fuel-cell based power train.
Chevrolet notes that fuel cell technology offers a ton of unique advantages when it comes to military use. These include the likes of a near-silent operation, reduced acoustic and thermal signatures, high wheel torque at all speeds, low fuel consumption across operating range, and water by-product for field uses. That means that the vehicle could have such military uses as making for more quiet, cooler rides that are more difficult to detect via instruments and/or human observation.
“One of the things we started testing about ten years ago is this exportable power take-off,” noted Charlie Freese, GM Executive Director of Global Fuel Cell Activities. “Whether you’re using the vehicle in a site where you have not access to plug-in power, or if you’re a camper, or if you’re in this military environment, the ability to export 25 kW continuous, or up to 50 kW at its peak, is a really great functionality that comes out of this fuel cell system.”
“You can imagine when you’re supporting them in the field, and you have a deep cache off spare parts,” Freese continued. “I could be wrong, but I’m not so sure I could imagine taking the spare parts out of a navy dept. and immediately servicing an Army vehicle, but with this [fuel cell tech], you could actually do that.”
Of course, Chevy had help with all of this. That is, the automaker partnered with the U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development, and Engineering Center in order to work to push the entire concept out in less than a year. GM has noted that the company plans to finish up development by early 2017 when the vehicle proper will be handed over to the U.S. Army for field testing.

For a while, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 was shrouded in a cloak of mystery. Over the last few months, though, we’ve seen its secret layers slowly peeled back thanks to a series of spy shots–information keeps trickling in little by little.
Here’s what we know so far:
Our first glimpse of the camouflaged ZR1 revealed a bulging hood and large air intakes at the corners of the bumpers. Its doors were bare and unpainted, perhaps signaling a move from fiberglass to carbon fiber to reduce the car’s weight. Blue brake calipers on the Corvette’s black wheels also stood out–a potential nod to the C6 ZR1’s blue calipers. (If you’ve ever wondered, that’s how the C6 got the nickname “The Blue Devil.”) No rear spoiler appeared on the back, but two struts on the top of the bumper were a sign that a new type of spoiler would probably be attached. After all, the new ZR1 would need that aerodynamic boost to match the 205 mph top speed of the last ZR1.
A new round of spy shots gave us an up-close look at the two wings Chevrolet is testing. The wings on one prototype are almost comically huge, while the wings on the other are smaller and sleeker. In the past, ZR1 convertible prototypes were spotted with the smaller rear wing, but this is the first appearance of the smaller version on a hard-top Corvette.
We’re still not sure what might be happening underneath the ZR1’s hood, but the big hood bulge could point to extra storage designed for a supercharger. (This would be consistent with the addition of air inlets for intercoolers at the front corners.) Experts speculate that the supercharged LT4 V8 or the LT5 twin-turbo small-block might appear once the ZR1 moves out of the prototype phase. A turbo engine, after all, would be a great way to distinguish the ZR1 from the other, less powerful, cars in Corvette’s lineup. We’re willing to bet that the ZR1 will put out around 700 hp–it might even outdo the SRT Hellcat’s 707-hp rating.
For now, more specific details on the ZR1 remain a mystery. FCA is keeping a tight lid on any information that might spoil their big reveal and the prototypes are so well-camouflaged that even the most skilled spy shooter has a hard time getting a good shot of them. We’re not sure when the ZR1 will appear on the market, but rest assured that we’ll keep you updated.

The new Camaro ZL 1 improves upon all of its factory-built predecessors - in more ways than one and those of us at Ray Chevrolet are pretty excited about it.
The ZL1 was built to go up against the most powerful sports coupes in the world and according to executive vice president of Global Product Development, Mark Reuss, “The Camaro ZL1 is designed to excel at everything.”
The ZL 1’s super aggressive styling improvements were the result of more than 100-plus hours of wind-tunnel testing and on-track validation – providing greater aerodynamics and better cooling.
The new high performance Camaro coupe boasts a lighter platform, better handling, acceleration, and braking than ever before – while embodying power, refinement, and track capability.
Changes for 2017 include a lowered suspension, updated diffuser and a noticeably larger spoiler on the trunk lid. This Camaro’s 20-inch Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires were dipped in gloss-black paint and given extended black side skirts to complement.
Introduced by GM back in 2002, the brand’s magnetorheological suspension system offers enhanced stability control, allowing the ZL 1 to be driven on and off the track.
Increasing the size of the front fenders, splitter and rear spoiler, while adding brand-exclusive rocker panels, GM was also able to improve the stability of the new Camaro at higher speeds.
The ZL 1 comes equipped with GM’s Performance Traction Management, Custom Launch Control, electronic limited-slip differentials and Driver Mode Selector, offering a more dynamic performance.
But if the ten-speed automatic is not your preference, there’s an option for a six-speed manual, as well.
Under the hood, the 2017 Camaro ZL 1 doesn’t disappoint either. Delivering 640 hp and 650 pound-feet of torque byway of a turbocharged LT4 6.2-liter V-8 engine, the all-new coupe offers unparalleled levels of performance.
GM collaborated with Ford to create an available ten-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifter. This not only offers smaller steps between gears, but will also ensure that the coupe’s engine stays at optimal levels during acceleration.
And 15.35 inch six-piston Bembo brakes bring all this power to a halt with the help of the ZL 1’s 15.35-inch tow-piece front rotors.
Buyers can choose from seven standard colors. But if you don’t mind spending a bit more for the ZL 1’s premium color options – Hyper Blue Metallic, Bright Yellow and Garnet Red Tintcoat – an additional $395 applies.
In case you were wondering like some of us here at your Fox Lake Chevy dealer, GM product development chief Mark Reuss says with the ZL 1 you get a vehicle this comes completely track ready – whether you purchase the track package or not. If you are looking for something else besides performance cars, stop in and check out our new Chevy models.
“It’s maneuverable, too,” noted Betsy Flegg, Senior Marketing and Advertising Manager for Chevrolet Crossovers about the new 2017 Chevrolet Trax. “You’re not trying to haul around a big vehicle, especially in urban areas like this. You can really get around and you still have room if you need to go to Costco.” This, in and of itself, is quite a good selling point when it comes to those of us who live in Chicago, a big city with, some would say, tight, somewhat nimble streets. That is to say, the new 2017 Chevrolet Trax is perhaps one of the best of the smaller crossovers out this year when it comes to zooming and zipping around the city streets of Chicago.
Chevrolet provided the market with quite an update with regard to its new Trax crossover, and one that provides such a thing with a much-needed boost. With a starting price of just at $21,895, the 2017 Trax is a bit more expensive than the previous generation’s incarnation—about $700 more to be exact—but you are getting much more than you would with the 2016 Trax. Powered by a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that puts out roughly 138 horsepower and 148 pounds per square foot of torque, which is also pushed by a Hydra-Matic 6T40 six-speed automatic transmission, the 2017 Chevrolet Trax certainly has the oomph for navigating the close twist and turns of city traffic, not to mention the amazing level of visibility out of both the front and back of the vehicle thanks to an updated, more athletic-looking face and new rear fascia. Inside the new 2017 Chevrolet Trax, that extra $700 gets you access to the new Chevy MyLink 7-inch touch radio, not to mention a very sleek looking update to the overall interior.
The new Trax is set to compete with the likes of the Jeep Renegade and the Honda HR-V, competition that is quite hot and only looking to get more intense and the market continues to evolve. The vehicle is built in Chevrolet’s San Luis Potosi, Mexico plant. Of course, Chevrolet has seen the Trax popularity skyrocket since its debut here in the United States, selling over 100,000 vehicles overall, as well as 2016 sales being up 23.5 percent to 45,598 throughout August.
As far as driving around the streets of Chicago is concerned, you honestly could not go wrong with the new 2017 Chevrolet Trax.
As is always, keep checking back in here with us at your Fox Lake Chevy dealer for more information with regard to the 2017 Chevrolet Trax. Too, while you are at it, why not stop by and sign up to test drive one of our many new lot vehicles? We can promise to do everything we can to help you find the perfect vehicle!
At Ray Chevrolet we were already pretty impressed by the 2018 Chevy Equinox we were lucky enough to get a glimpse of earlier this fall. For one thing, the 2018 version is a whopping 400 pounds slimmer than its 2017 predecessor. That’s no small thing, but even though it has shed the equivalent of a touring motorcycle, that doesn’t make this fuel efficient SUV any less tough.
Lighter yes, but the 2018 model is just as strong, perhaps even more so. With the addition of the high-strength steel that went into its body construction, the frame remains as durable as ever making this a top quality vehicle and a bargain to boot. In fact, the Equinox, in our humble opinion, is the best compact sports utility on the market today and we defy any competing automaker to say otherwise.
Sales of the Chevrolet Equinox have remained strong for the company in what has become a highly competitive segment. We certainly sell our fair share here. In fact, the SUV is the number two seller for Chevy at 278,000 units sold last year. That puts the Equinox right smack behind the Silverado pickup which is a formidable opponent for the top sales spot.
The upgrade in steel strength that will be used in construction of the 2018 model probably won’t make your local auto body shop too happy. It’s plenty tough and the body’s design features advanced, as well as ultra-high strength steel and aluminum so the Equinox has the durability to maintain the frame even under considerable duress. The construction has seen an increase of one percent of the ultra-high-strength stuff and the increase in advanced high-strength dual-phase steel and multiphase steel has been increased from 12 percent up to 31 percent. This type of steel requires different methods for repair should your Equinox be in an accident that damages the body.
The new Equinox will go on sale early next year, but you don’t have to wait that long to get behind the wheel of a great Chevy car or truck. Stop by your Fox Lake Chevy Dealer and talk to one of our friendly and helpful salespeople today. We are located at 39 N Route 12 in Fox Lake, IL.
Like everything else in the world, the way we get from point A to point B is changing. Of course, there is always the option to take your own vehicle, but if that is not for you, there are a number of new choices other than the public transportation or cab stalwarts. That is to say, apps like Lyft and Uber are making things easier for travelers worldwide. But, of course, the cost of gas seriously effects such things. This is why Lyft have decided to go electric with General Motors’ (GM) Bolt EV at the helm. “Drivers on the Lyft platform will be receiving Bolts to drive first,” said Emily Castor, Director of Transportation over at Lyft.” This, of course, comes off the heels of General Motors investing roughly $500 million in Lyft earlier this year.
Honestly, the Bolt has the potential to be one of the biggest breakthroughs in electric vehicles since the Tesla. The car is said to go 238 miles on a single charge, which in and of itself is a huge deal, but the vehicle will also not cost you an arm and a leg. That is to say, the set price for the Chevy Bolt EV is somewhere in the ballpark of $37,495, which is about half the sticker price of a new Tesla Model S.
Of course, Lyft is not buying a fleet of Bolt EVs, but instead its independent drivers will be offered a chance to rent such a thing via the Express Drive program. Both Lyft and GM are looking to expand their Express Drive program around the United States in the coming future. This will see the likes of cities such as Denver, Los Angeles, and San Francisco to join places like Detroit, Boston, Baltimore, Chicago, and Washington D.C. in an effort to give more Lyft drivers the chance to rent GM vehicles on a weekly basis in order to save money (which will inevitably cause an increase in profit as well).
Lyft President John Zimmer noted that by 2021, it is possible that we may see more than half the rides Lyft provides being in autonomous vehicles. But, in the meantime, its fairly important for the environment (as well as for our bank accounts) to make electric vehicles such as the Chevy Bolt EV available to rideshare organizations that employee independent drivers.
As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Ray Chevrolet for more information with regard to the Chevy Bolt EV and Lyft team up. Too, while you are at it, why not stop by and sign up to test drive one of our many new lot vehicles? We can promise to do everything we can to help you find the perfect vehicle!
While you wait for the Chevy Bolt EV, check out our other electric car, the Chevy Volt. It is a great alternative to using a gas only based vehicle.
At Ray Chevrolet, we hate to see a good model of car be retired, especially when it has enjoyed as much success as the Chevy Equinox. Life is full of second chances, however, or I guess we should say second acts. This is true for people, but it is also true for cars apparently. It’s true for the Chevy Equinox at any rate. The current outgoing model of this popular crossover sports utility vehicle is being given a new lease on life when it goes into production as a fleet use only vehicle.
Fleet vehicles are employed on the streets and highways across the country where they are put to good use by businesses and agencies such as car rental and taxi cab companies. The Chevy Equinox is a reliable midsize crossover SUV that will represent the brand well and continue to remain a high profile vehicle.
Companies that need fleet vehicles to rent or to transport their customers or employees need a large number of vehicles every year, millions in fact. This provides automakers a secondary market and also benefits the companies who will be putting the Chevy Equinox to work for them. It also keeps General Motors auto plants busy making high-quality vehicles.
The Equinox debuted as Chevy’s first crossover model just over a decade ago with the 2005 model year. The second generation was introduced for the 2010 model year and for 2016 the Equinox received a refresh that included upgrades to both the interior and exterior as well as changes in the trim levels.
Plans have not quite been finalized, but for the Equinox, which is produced in Canada at the CAMI facility, General Motors is repeating their past success in the secondary fleet market. Chevy has made this move before when the last generation of the Chevy Malibu turned fleet exclusive recently. The Chevrolet Impala, Captiva Sport and the last generation of the Cruze compact joined the fleet ranks as well.
We’ve got a fleet of vehicles ourselves here at Ray Chevrolet, but our fleet is made of of brand new Chevy cars and trucks. We invite you to come down and take a look at them. As we all have been aware of for some time now, gas prices are down, and they look to stay down for quite some time. Naturally, this means that vehicles like pickup trucks have become more in vogue with the general population than they were even a few years ago. Of course, this also means that rumors about with regard to automakers maybe expanding their production of such a vehicle. This seems to be the case when it comes to Chevrolet. That is to say, according to recent reports, the Bowtie Brand might move production of their Silverado pickup to the Oshawa Assembly Plant in Ontario, Canada.
Now, General Motors (GM) announced not too long ago that they plan to spend roughly $400,000 CAD in order to upgrade the Oshawa plant, which, in its current state (vis-á-vis the plant before GM’s upgrades) produces the Chevrolet Impala, the Buick Regal, and the Cadillac XTS. However, with these upgrades, the Oshawa plant with certainly have the capability to build cars and trucks, which is the fact that led to speculation regard Chevy moving Silverado production to the plant sometime soon.
As of right now, General Motors uses its Fort Wayne Assembly Plant in Indiana and its Silao, Mexico faculty in order to build the Silverado, but production of the vehicle—which, let’s not forget, is Chevy’s bestselling pickup in the United States and pulled in more than 380,000 sales as of August of 2016—used to be handled in the Oshawa plant. That is, until 2009 when GM closed the Oshawa Truck Plant due to low pickup truck sales as the result of high gas prices and the financial crisis.
In any event, General Motors are keeping a tight lid on what their plans are with regard to the expanded Oshawa Assembly Plant in Ontario. Still, the idea that production of the Silverado could end up there is quite a big possibility seeing as the vehicle is expected to be replaced by a newer generation model sometime in the latter portion of 2018 or early on in 2019, and it would make sense for GM to streamline production of the vehicle to their newly updated facility in Canada.
What will also be a huge benefit in such a thing occurring has all to do with jobs. That is, currently, the Oshawa Assembly plant houses around 2,400 employees (well below the 10,000-plus the plant employed just over a decade ago)—an expansion in the plant’s production naturally brings in more jobs, which is never a bad thing. Still, only time will tell.
As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Ray Chevrolet for more information with regard to the possibility of Chevy moving their Silverado production to their Oshawa Assembly Plant. Too, while you are at it, why not stop by and sign up to test drive one of our many new lot vehicles? We can promise to do everything we can in order to find the perfect vehicle for you!
When it comes to a choice between a Chevy Colorado and a Toyota Tacoma, we think it’s probably pretty clear which truck we would pick. That said, we also believe in fairness here at Ray Chevrolet. We’ll just lay out the facts and let you the consumer decide which is the better vehicle. (It’s the Chevy Colorado by the way).
Both the Chevy Colorado and the Toyota Tacoma are popular compact trucks in the US. Let us explain why the Colorado is better. For starters it has great fuel economy, maybe the best in its segment. With a choice of a 2.5 liter 4 cyl, a 3.6 liter V6 or the 2.8 liter 4 cylinder turbodiesel, fuel economy wins out over the Tacoma. The Colorado gets 20 miles per gallon in town and 27 mpg on the highway. Not only that, but the 2016 Chevy Colorado has the lower starting price of the two trucks at $21,000. For that price, Colorado owners get a choice of four trim levels, a six speaker audio system and a rearview camera. The base engine delivers 200 horsepower and the V6 is capable of 305 hp. Even the four cylinder diesel delivers 181. Let’s face it, Colorado owners get more bang for their buck all the way around.
The Colorado seats four in the cab model and five in the crew, and there’s plenty of room above and below for heads and legs respectively. For cargo space it’s no contest either. Truck owners love to haul equipment and gear and the Colorado has plenty of places and spaces to stow stuff, including a tiered bed storage system and 13 adjustable tie-down spots. The extended cab provides a 6’2” bed to accommodate even bigger loads.
The Colorado also comes out ahead in terms of comfort, in our opinion. Both trucks have great towing and hauling powers so it’s almost too close to call on that one, however, we’ll go with the Colorado again on that too. They are both reliable vehicles as well, but overall, and we think you will agree, the Chevy Colorado is the superior vehicle the compact pickup segment.

Though it’s hard to say any new Chevrolet model isn’t “highly anticipated”, we really mean it this time when we talk about the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV.
General Motors’ new all-electric car has been one of the most hotly sought-after vehicles in recent memory ever since the clamoring started almost 20 months ago when the automaker first debuted the concept version of the car at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show.
GM kicked off production of the Bolt EV at the beginning of this year, started divulging details of the car’s technical specs a few months ago, and finally released a few for test drives last month.
Car and Driver was, of course, one of the first to test drive the EV and confirmed what we all expected: the 2017 Chevy Bolt EV is simply beyond compare. It really, honestly, truly lives up to the hype. After driving 238 miles, the Car and Driver testers found that there were still 34 miles remaining on the vehicle’s range estimator. On a single charge.
It gets the job done quickly, too. The Bolt goes from zero to 60 mph in about 6.5 seconds, matching Car and Driver’s best result for the BMW i3, the quickest entry among today’s current lineup of EVs. The Bolt’s electric motor generates an impressive 200 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque and tops out at 90 mph.
And we haven’t even mentioned the Bolt’s uniquely cool styling: it will come in eight colors– Nightfall Gray Metallic, Silver Ice Metallic, Summit White, Mosaic Black Metallic, Kinetic Blue Metallic, Arctic Blue Metallic, Orange Burst Metallic, and Cajun Red Tintcoat. A black grille comes on half the models, with exceptions being Mosaic black, Kinetic Blue, Orange Burst, and Cajun Red.
Obviously, folks are waiting impatiently to scoop up one of these remarkable vehicles as soon as possible. But the waiting game for the Bolt EV will continue a little longer. Chevy still has yet to roll out a complete pre-ordering process for the vehicle.
The automaker recently posted its fleet order guide online for the all-electric crossover utility vehicle, but there’s still no update on the consumer website about opening up ordering capability for buyers. We do know, however, that the Bolt will be available in all 50 states. The 2,200 dealerships nationwide which are certified to sell Chevy’s electric vehicles will all carry the new Bolt.
While you await this exciting, well-rounded new car, come see us at Ray Chevrolet to test out Chevy’s other electric offerings. Maybe you’ll fall in love with the Volt or be swayed by the sophisticated Malibu hybrid. Of course, if you want to stick it out and wait for the Bolt we totally understand. Come check in with us soon for another update.
In the day of the Internet, it is safe to say that it is really hard for a company to keep anything secret. There is always a way to leak information, and if such a thing can be found in time, you better believe some people will take advantage of that. Or, you know, one of your employees can just accidently put something online that they were not supposed to. Such a thing happened recently to Chevrolet. That is to say, with regard to their new heavy duty pickup truck that was supposed to make its debut at the Texas State Fair, someone accidently sent out into the ether of the Internet the power output for the 2017 Silverado 2500HD, something that was noticed by Truck Trend, who then reported the information.
In any respect, what the leaked information showed with regard to the 2017 Silverado 2500HD was that the thing will be an absolute beast, to say the least. That is, Chevy has decided to go with an updated 6.6 liter Duramax diesel that will be able to push around 445 horse power and around 910 pounds per square feet of torque. These figures seem even more astronomical when compared with the 2016 Chevy Silverado 2500, which gave us around 397 horse power and 765 pounds per square feet of torque. In any event, that is a huge jump, and one that I am sure most Silverado fans will absolutely welcome.
On the more official side of things, Chevy did not confirm these numbers, but they did not deny them either. What they did talk about with regard to the 2017 Silverado 2500HD was an intense power boost by way of a new water separator-equipped hood scoop that would world to improve the performance of the vehicle by feeding it with additional cool, dry air that can go to the engine. Of course, as far as pay load and tow ratings are concerned, Chevy was a bit quiet. But, with numbers like these, we can expect big things (pun intended) when it comes to the all-new 2017 Chevy Silverado 2500HD. Let’s all just hope that these numbers hold.
The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD is set to make its debut at the Texas State Fair this year, so keep an eye out for updates!
As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Ray Chevrolet for more information with regard to the new Chevrolet 2500HD pickup. Too, while you are at it, why not stop by and sign up to test drive one of our many new lot vehicles? We can promise to do everything we can to help you find the perfect vehicle!
Around more or less in its present form since 2005, the compact Chevrolet Equinox crossover SUV has long been in need of a full redesign. The automaker finally unveiled an all-new version of the Equinox to its dealers and a smattering of journalists on – not coincidentally – the date of the autumnal equinox.
The new Equinox’s expressive exterior has a lean, muscular skin echoing the global Chevrolet design cues and sculpted shapes seen in the Volt, Malibu and Cruze. Extensive aero development in the wind tunnel influenced the sleek shape.
It is a richer, more detailed design featuring chrome trim on all models and Malibu-inspired styling. Projector-beam headlamps are standard, along with LED daytime running lamps. At the rear, horizontal taillamps emphasize the Equinox’s wide stance, while uplevel models feature LED taillamps.
“Customers who previewed the vehicle early on had a strong emotional response to the sleek and sophisticated exterior design,” said John Cafaro, executive director, GM Design. “Those same themes are carried through to the interior, making the space beautifully intuitive.”
The interior takes advantage of the Equinox’s all-new architecture to offer a down-and-away instrument panel, while a low windshield base provides a commanding outward view. New elements such as available denim-style seat fabric blend high style with high durability, while a new “kneeling” rear seat enhances functionality. With it, the bottom cushions tilt forward when the split-folding seatbacks are lowered, allowing a flat floor for easier loading.
The 2018 Equinox also offers purposeful technology that helps keep passengers safe, comfortable and connected. Chevrolet’s latest connectivity technologies are front and center, including 7- and 8-inch-diagonal MyLink infotainment systems designed to support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as an available OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot.
The Equinox offers a comprehensive suite of available active safety technologies and adaptive crash-avoidance features that provide ease of use and peace of mind on the road.
Teen Driver is also offered, allowing parents to set controls and review an in-vehicle report card in order to encourage safer driving habits, even when they are not in the vehicle.
A range of three turbocharged engines — including the compact SUV segment’s first turbo-diesel in North America — provides customers more choices when it comes to performance, efficiency and capability in the all-new 2018 Chevrolet Equinox. They include a 1.5L turbo, a 2.0L turbo matched with GM’s new nine-speed automatic transmission, as well as a 1.6L turbo-diesel.
“With three choices, customers can select an engine that offers more of the attributes that are important to them: efficiency, performance and capability,” said Dan Nicholson, vice president, Global Propulsion Systems. “The advantage for each is the power of a larger engine and the efficiency of a smaller engine.”
The new Equinox is the first Chevrolet model in North America to use an all-turbocharged, multi-engine powertrain lineup. That includes the expected segment-exclusive 1.6L turbo-diesel that will offer customers excellent efficiency and capability.
The 2018 Equinox goes on sale in the first quarter of 2017 in North America. Come on down to Ray Chevrolet to experience the Equinox firsthand!
In a segment where automakers are scrambling to get ahead, General Motors prepares to roll out the 2017 Chevy Bolt - the world's first, mass-market all electric vehicle.
Until now, the long-range EV segment has been very much open for the taking.
By offering 200 miles of range for around $30,000 (with a $7,500 rebate) GM is hoping to make the EV an attractive option for buyers who have been on the fence about purchasing an electric car.
But, car companies like as Telsa, Nissan and Volkswagen are all competing to be the first to bring an affordable EV with a 200 mile range to market, as well.
And while the most obvious competitor in the line up is the Telsa Model 3, here are a few key things we found at Ray Chevrolet that you may want to keep in mind before heading out to purchase your long range EV.
- While it is a hatchback, the Chevy Bolt offers about 56 cubic-feet of storage space (where Telsa offers about 58.1) in addition to a false floor, which means more room to fit your needs.
- As far as range is concerned, the Bolt is said to offer an EPA-estimated range of 238 miles of range while the Model 3 follows with about 215 miles.
- In 1912, GM offered a gas-powered vehicle with an electric starter called the Cadillac Touring Edition - a significant change to the notorious hand cranked vehicles of the time. And in 1998 the company came out with the EV1 - a mass-produced contemporary original. Early firsts like this give GM a slight advantage over the innovative, new automaker Telsa in terms of what works and what doesn't in the world of electric cars.
- Sources say, there's a reservation count of about 400,000 vehicles for the Telsa EV. This means that if you're not at the front of the waiting list - with a production estimate of about 80,000 cars for 2016 - you may have to expect a 2019 delivery.
- Telsa initially announced its long-range electric vehicle would be available sometime next year, but has recently pushed the date back to 2018, citing delays. The Chevy Bolt, on the other hand, will be in showrooms by the end of 2016.
If you're in the market for a quality long-range vehicle with optimal performance and fuel efficiency, head over Ray Chevrolet for the 2017 Chevy Bolt or any of our new cars available today.

At Ray Chevrolet, we have watched with great interest as Chevrolet has made moves to keep up in areas of emerging automotive technologies. This includes new developments in electric vehicles, or EVs for short. Sometimes, in order to stay competitive, it becomes necessary to outsource parts overseas to meet production demands. That’s exactly what Chevy has done with the 2017 Bolt in its effort to meet production goals in what has become a very competitive segment. With the impending launch of the Tesla Model 3 coming late next year, Chevy is keen to keep with EV production and development.
The public is certainly warming up to the idea of electric cars and Chevy has responded in kind. Chevy’s parent company, General Motors, knows that it needs a little help with electronics. To supply its EVs with these parts, GM has teamed up with the South Korean company, LG Electronics. The Seoul-based company is gearing up for the Chevy Bolt and production should begin sometime this fall for the 2017 model.
The component parts LG is producing for the Bolt EV -- eleven in all -- will be used in the vehicle’s infotainment system as well as the motor. LG currently manufacturers the battery cells for the Chevy Volt so this isn’t a completely new arrangement. Additionally, LG will be providing parts for the electric drive motor, onboard charger, battery heater, accessory power module and instrument cluster. LG and GM have inked a six-year deal to solidify the collaboration. The Bolt has a 60 kilowatt-hour battery pack that should allow for 200 miles on the road when fully charged. The pack weighs 1,000 pounds which is twice that of the Chevrolet Spark, but more than doubles its range.
Six years should be enough time to see if the relationship is beneficial to both parties. That’s about all the information we have so far, but we will certainly keep you up to date as we learn new details. One last thing, we do know the Bolt will be priced just un der 38 grand.
You don’t have to wait until 2017 to get your hands on a Chevy Bolt EV or any great model of Chevy car or truck. Come visit us today at Ray Chevrolet. We are located at 39 N Route 12 in Fox Lake, IL.

Sure, if we are being as honest as we can be, it is not at all that hard for anyone to turn the proverbial head when said person happens to be driving the sleek, as close to perfect as you can get Chevrolet Grand Sport. I mean, the car is absolutely gorgeous, and is considered by most (with good reason) to be quite the top level performance vehicle, surely ranked very high on anyone’s list. Still, is there such a thing as the perfect “perfect” vehicle? Well, recently, Chris Perkins—along with the good folks over at Road & Track—asked that very question. That is to say, Perkins set out to build what he thinks could be the perfect version of the Grand Sport.
For starters, Perkins stuck to the mid-level 2LT trim seeing as such a thing is roughly a whopping $6,000 less than the top tier 3LT trim, yet still offers a significant amount of luxury gizmos and gadgets that are really pretty unbeatable with regard to the price. This includes things like heated and cooled seats, an upgraded hi-fi system, and a front parking camera. Color-wise, Perkins had his heart set on the classic Admiral Blue (of course, adding the forever impressive white body length stripe) with torch red hash marks.
Otherwise, Perkins focused on the Z07 package, letting everyone know that such a thing is certainly worth the price. “The Z07 package seems expensive at nearly $8,000,” Perkins said, “but it’s actually quite the bargain. It gets you the same ultra-sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, carbon ceramic brakes, and aero kit as the Corvette Z06. Porsche will charge you more money for carbon brakes alone, so yeah, a bargain.”
Lastly, Perkins added the Competition Sport Bucket seats for $2,000, adding a more aggressive attitude than the standard GT seats. The Chevrolet Grand Sport Edition comes with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities, so opting out of a navigation system could certainly save you a few bucks in the long run.
All in all, Perkins spent a grand total of $83,177 on his perfect Chevrolet Grand Sport Edition, which, of course, is quite a bargain considering what you are getting, and is a steal for such a high end performance vehicle.
As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Ray Chevrolet for more information with regard to the Chevrolet Grand Sport Edition. Too, while you are at it, why not stop by and sign up for a test drive of one of our many new lot vehicles? We can promise to do everything we can to help you find the perfect vehicle!
It seems that 1967 was a good year. It was a very good year, indeed, for Chevy.
And the fact that the very first Camaro to ever roll off assembly lines will be honored during this week’s General Motors Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit, Michigan, is proof of that “one of the most collectible cars of all time” is worth its weight in gold.
In celebration of its 50th birthday, the first of 52 “pilot-built” Chevy Camaro coupes has been fully restored and will be on display in a huge, illuminated glass box on Woodward Avenue – compliments of the Historic Vehicle Association.
What was once known by the media as the “Detroit Convention Unveil Car”, the Chevrolet Camaro was built as a competitor vehicle to the Ford Mustang at the Norwood, Ohio warehouse in 1966.
In order to ensure that production lines were working properly and that the masses would be able to afford the sporty new two-door Camaro, it wasn’t equipped with many options. The upgraded model included seat belts (not standard for the time), wheel covers and whitewall tires.
Hand-made with a 230 cubic-inch inline 6-cylinder engine, 140 horsepower and a special Granada gold paint job – reserved only for the first of the first built on GM production lines – this Camaro stood among 49 cars of its kind to be built at the Norwood plant. The 1967 muscle car classic was also one of 36 coupes.
Once it was completed, Chevy’s premier Camaro was stamped with serial number N100001. Soon after it was purchased by a pioneer in the manufacturing industry, R.T Ayers who held on to the car for 2 ½ years before selling it.
The first Camaro went through a number of different owners, until it was finally stripped and stored for years.
But it was the serial number that almost 50 years later, lead to the vehicle’s rediscovery by a Kansas City father and son team.
At the time, Logan Lawson was 13 when he saw an ad that was placed online with the vehicle on sale in Oklahoma, with many of the original parts missing. The car’s history revealed that the coupe became a drag racer on the local circuit.
The Lawson’s bought the vehicle and traced the discarded parts back to a warehouse with the help of the GM Heritage Center in Warren, Ohio – beginning a 5-year long restoration process.
Sterling Classic Auto Restorations, a Wichita- based auto restoration shop, added the finishing touches and Camaro No. 1 will be featured, in all of its glory, at the Woodward Triangle in Birmingham this week - and the folks here at Ray Chevrolet look forward to seeing it.
It seems like it is just a war of attrition at this point. In the age old pickup truck battle that sees the Chevrolet Silverado pitted against one of its oldest rivals in the Dodge Ram, there seems to be enough back and forth to denote this war lasting for more decades to come. For now, however, let’s take a bit of a close look with regard to these two monsters of the pickup truck segment to see if we can decipher any significant lead.
First, let’s look at the Dodge Ram. Underneath its—frankly quite gaudy—hood, the Ram offers a few engine options. At base level, we have a 3.6 liter V6 that pushes around 305 horsepower and 269 pounds per square foot of torque. You have the option of upgrading this to a 5.7 liter Hemi V8 that will give you 395 horsepower and 410 pounds per square foot of torque. Specific to the Ram, the vehicle also has the option of coming in a 3.0 liter EcoDiesel engine, which pushes 240 horsepower with 420 pounds per square foot of torque. Other features for the Dodge Ram include optional air suspension.
Moving on to the Chevy Silverado 1500, this vehicle, like the Ram, comes with many options with regard to underneath its hood. The base level unit offers a 4.3 liter V6 that pushes 285 horsepower and 297 pounds per square foot of torque. Customers have the option of upgrading to a 5.3 liter V8 that delivers 355 pounds per square foot of torque. Too, for the more adventurous of us, the Silverado 1500’s top line is a 6.2 liter V8 that delivers 420 horsepower and 460 pounds per square foot of torque. On top of that, all models of the Chevy Silverado 1500 come with aluminum construction as well as direct fuel injection. As far as transmissions go, the vehicle offers two automatic options: a six speed and an eight.
So far, of course, these two seem a bit evenly matched (with the Silverado maybe squeezing ahead just a bit), but where the Dodge gets blown out of the water is with the standard technology offered up by the Silverado. That is to say, the Chevy Silverado 1500 comes with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities, as well as Duralife brake rotors and trailer sway control.
As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Ray Chevrolet for more information with regard to the Chevy Silverado pickup truck. Too, while you are at it, why not stop by and sign up to test drive one of our many new lot vehicles? We can promise to do everything in our power to find the right vehicle for you!
For a very long time now, the Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid has had the extremely unsung duty of being a very (very) reliable rental fleet beater, logging thousands of miles while being rented out to families on vacation, feeling the wrath of stressed out Moms and Dads everywhere. Of course, this is a respectable position to be in, and Chevrolet could have ridden (forgive the pun) out such a rental fleet guarantee for years to come.
But, of course, that’s not at all what Chevrolet have done. That is to say, the automaker has made sure that their new edition of the Chevy Malibu Hybrid simply ups the ante, providing a huge update that focuses more so on bringing a luxury vehicle feel to the mid-size sedan segment, making the vehicle sure fire competition for the likes of the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and their ilk.
Now, the new Chevy Malibu Hybrid shares its powertrain with the equally impressive Chevy Volt. However, the big difference between the two is that the Malibu Hybrid uses its two electric motors, which combined equal 182 horsepower, are supplemented with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder that pushes an extra 122 horses. This is combined with a 55 mile per hour electric-only cutoff system that is sure to offer quite the smooth ride for anyone. Also, Chevy has re-done the braking system that provides a virtually unnoticeable transition from the electric stoppers to the disc brake’s bite. This all gives the new Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid an EPA estimated 46 miles per gallon combined (47 miles per gallon in the city and 46 miles per gallon on the highway), which is nothing to shake a stick at to say the least.
As far as luxurious upgrades are concerned, the new Chevy Malibu Hybrid has outdone itself. That is, the vehicle comes with the option of heated seats, wireless phone charging, dual-zone climate control with rear facing vents, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, front collision assist with automatic braking, pedestrian detection, and a number of other bells and whistles that make this vehicle a huge luxury contender for not even close to the price you will pay for something else.
Breaking all of this down, the new Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid is quite the affordable and utterly reliable choice for anyone interested in a mid-size sedan. It is very much hard to go wrong with such a vehicle.
As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Ray Chevrolet for more information with regard to the new Chevy Malibu Hybrid. Too, while you are at it, why not stop by and sign up to test drive one of our many new lot vehicles? We can promise to do everything in our power to find the right vehicle for you!
If you’ve been anxiously awaiting the 2017 Chevrolet Trax ever since its debut earlier this year at the Chicago Auto Show, we’ve got great news for you. The freshly redesigned 2017 Trax will hit dealerships this Fall.
The subcompact SUV has been restyled so expect an even more sophisticated exterior than you saw in last year’s model. Car and Driver calls it “slightly less of a wallflower” but we think that’s the understatement of the year.
A new grille echoes the stacked dual-port look of other Chevrolets but new headlamps that wrap around the front fenders lend a slightly more sophisticated edginess to the Trax. In the LS trim level, the lamps are halogen reflectors but if you spring for the LT or Premier models, you’ll score some beautiful halogen projector-beams and even some chrome bling on the fog-lamp bezels.
The emphasis on standout lighting continues on the Trax’s rear fascia, which features new dual taillamps and LED lighting in the Premier. Oh, and don’t forget the flashy 18-inch aluminum wheels to top off the vehicle’s new stylish facelift.
Inside, the hits just keep coming. The Trax’s updated cabin boasts a totally redesigned instrument panel with a dashboard that sweeps upward elegantly to shelter a new tachometer, speedometer and digital info readout. There’s also a new 7.0-inch color touchscreen, giving drivers direct access to Chevy’s state-of-the-art MyLink infotainment system.
MyLink grants users the ability to connect their devices using Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. In fact, the Trax lets passengers connect as many as seven personal electronic devices, including tablets, laptops and smartphones. Staying connected has never been easier–the Trax also offers 4G LTE and acts as a Wi-Fi hot spot.
The Trax’s power doesn’t stop with its aesthetics or incredible technology. Under the hood, the SUV packs quite a punch. Regardless of configuration, the 2017 Trax is fitted with a 138-horsepower 1.4-liter turbocharged Ecotec 4-cylinder engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. That makes for quite the speedy little subcompact: Car and Driver logged 9.4 seconds to 60 mph during a test drive of an all-wheel-drive Trax.
You can obviously rely on the Trax to get you where you’re going in the most stylish, efficient way possible, but Chevy knows that safety is really paramount. New safety features available in the 2017 Trax include a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning. Plus, a rearview camera comes standard.
You get all this for a starting price of just $21,895. Talk about a value.
Not quite sold on the 2017 Chevrolet Trax yet? Consider this your open invitation to visit us at Ray Chevrolet for a test drive. We’re here to help whenever you decide you’re ready.
We have exciting news at Ray Chevrolet! If you’re in the market for an eco-friendly car, we’ve got the one for you! With 238 miles on a single charge, the Chevrolet Bolt EV is sure to put other electric vehicles to shame.
At first Chevrolet promised its fans an electric vehicle that would get them around for 200 miles; however, Chevrolet just exceeded their expectations with the all-new electric Bolt EV model. Just as good as the mileage, the MSRP is expected to be below $37,500, with tons of space, technology and safety features.
You can expect the Chevrolet Bolt EV model to make an appearance at Chevrolet dealerships later in the year and it will be a value you won’t want to miss. Until then, you can check out our other Chevrolet electric models available at Ray Chevrolet in Fox Lake, Illinois.
The darling of the 2017 model year for the C7 Corvette is no doubt the C7 Corvette Grand Sport. The sweet spot of the C7 Corvette generation thus far, the Grand Sport takes the livability of the C7 Corvette Stingray and amps up its prowess with aerodynamics, cooling and grip from the C7 Corvette Z06.
The original Corvette Grand Sports stalked racetracks in the 1960s, but the name went dormant until it was revived in 1996 for the final year of the C4-generation Corvette. With a 30-hp bump over stock and the wider wheels and tires of the mighty ZR-1—and the bulging fenders to match—that Grand Sport also sported a pair of fender hash stripes like those on the original race car, and it established the blueprint for production Grand Sport models going forward. For 2010, Chevrolet created another Grand Sport around the sixth-generation Corvette using the suspension and wider rolling stock from the Z06. And now the seventh-generation Corvette gains a Grand Sport option this summer for the 2017 model year.
The latest member of the Corvette lineup, the 2017 Grand Sport carries on the racing spirit of the original 1963 model, combining the power of the legendary LT1 6.2L V8 engine with a lightweight, race-bred chassis and aerodynamics package to provide incredible grip and handling. It boasts a whopping 460 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque.
The fresh, compact design lowers the hoodline, providing optimal weight balance. A dry-sump oil system delivers oil flow through the most extreme cornering, helping the Grand Sport deliver a consistently high level of performance.
Indeed, the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport adopts the strategy of borrowing suspension components and wider wheels and tires from a burlier variant and mixing them with the standard V-8 engine option. And the Grand Sport with the available Z07 Performance Package takes driving to a whole new level, with 1.2g of cornering capability.
Grand Sport combines signature Corvette DNA with ingenious engineering to create a stunning aerodynamic sports car with a wider body that includes sophisticated aerodynamic and cooling elements. Nearly every exterior element of Grand Sport has been designed with an aerodynamic purpose, creating a potent driving machine that’s primed to perform, lap after lap. Lightweight architecture and Z06-style rear spoiler help reduce lift, while large, available carbon fiber rocker panels and rear spoiler further reduce weight and contribute to overall aerodynamics. An available Carbon Fiber Ground Effects Package takes this aero setup over the top, for the ultimate in design performance.
Grand Sport is the latest member of one of the most storied performance families in the world. From the road prowess of Stingray to the track-dominant Z06, there’s a Corvette for just about any driver. Could the Grand Sport be your type? Stop by Ray Chevrolet to find out.
The Chevy Tahoe was due for an update for quite a while, and such a thing was delivered for the 2015 model year. And now, the new 2016 Chevy Tahoe has gotten itself a very modern looking update in order to compete with its main competition: the Ford Expedition, the Nissan Armada, and the Toyota Sequoia.
Beneath the hood, the new 2016 Chevy Tahoe has a 5.3-liter V-8 engine that pushes around 255 horsepower and 383 pounds per square foot of torque. And, honestly, even with the Tahoe pushing this much horsepower, the ride always remains smooth, despite the vehicle’s off-road look. For an even better ride, however, Chevy offers their Magnetic Ride Control system, which is an adaptive suspension technology that makes millisecond adjustments in order to damper any stiffness. Too, the throttle mapping certainly makes for a smooth driving experience when it comes to the 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe.
For those of us who are worried about the safety of the new 2016 Chevy Tahoe, the Luxury package model comes standard with a few nifty little safety technologies that work to ensure a smooth, safe ride for both you and your passengers. Things like blind spot monitors, a rearview camera with cross-traffic alert, and forward collision alert can all be found in the vehicle. Too, Chevrolet has introduced what they are referring to as the Safety Alert Seat, which buzzes the driver’s seat bottom to alert him or her of something. Too, the new 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe comes with lane drift prevention that works to keep the vehicle from rolling over lane lines in an unobtrusive way.
Not only all of this, but the new 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe comes with Chevrolet’s MyLink system that supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as five USB ports to plug everything you need in. The MyLink system also comes equipped with OnStar access, which can provide roadside assistance as well as turn by turn navigation.
All in all, the new updates for the 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe all work together to provide an insane amount of much needed updates that all provide for a far more modern vehicle than the previous generation SUVs. Honestly, it is very much a huge breath of fresh air that could work to definitely inject some live into Chevy’s Tahoe brand.
As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Ray Chevrolet for more information with regard to the 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe. Too, while you are at it, why not come on down and sign up to test drive one of our many new lot vehicles? We can promise to do everything we can to get you in the right vehicle for you!
The Ford F-150 and the Chevrolet Silverado: For as long as most of us can remember, these two titans of the full-size pickup truck automotive segment have been the bitterest of enemies. They are Batman and the Joker, Doctor Who and the Daleks, Gilgamesh and Enkidu, Quint and Jaws, the Ultimate Warrior and Hulk Hogan. For going on 39 years now, Ford’s F-150 has just barley squeaked ahead of the Chevy Silverado, though the bowtie brand pickup truck has, for the most part, always been nipping at the F-150’s heels. But how do the two compare when we put them head to head with one another? Well, let’s do just that: that is, let’s pit the 2016 Chevy Silverado against the 2016 Ford F-150 and see how they both stack up.
So, let’s start with looks. Now, of course, looks are going to be completely subjective and vary from one person to the next. Personally, I am a Silverado kind of guy, but again that completely boils down to preference. The 2016 model Silverado was privy to a mild update from its previous model, sculpting a more angular grille that comes with projection beam headlights and LED daytime running lights. Other than that, everything from the 2014 model carries over. The 2016 F-150 remains completely unchanged from its 2015 model, so, if you liked the way the pickup looked in 2015, chances are you will like the way it looks in 2016.
Now, when it comes to which of the two are the most innovative with their design, the 2016 Chevy Silverado squeezes into the lead position here thanks to things like the simply corner steps located on the rear bumper and hand grabs located at the rear stake mount, which makes climbing into its cargo bed all the more easy. The 2016 Ford F-150 does offer an optional tailgate stop, but it is just that: optional. That is, it is designed to be attached from inside the tailgate unfolding from there. This optional tailgate stop for the F-150 causes it to fall a little behind in our proverbial race here.
In a likewise development, the 2016 Silverado offers a whopping eight-inch MyLink infotainment system that is, I would say, far easier to use than the F-150’s infotainment system. Yes, both offer navigation systems, Bluetooth connectivity, AM/FM/CD/Satellite radio options, as well as voice controls, but here is the kicker: Ford has noted that its Sync 3 system (that comes with all F-150s) will not offer either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto until the 2017 model. The Silverado, on the other hand, comes standard with CarPlay and Android Auto.
As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Ray Chevrolet for more information with regard to the 2016 Chevy Silverado.
Not too long after the C7-generation Z06 model Corvettes went on sale to the public, a few troubling remarks made their way to several news sources, catching the eye of the ever-vigilant customer. The main concern with regard to most of these remarks had all to do with the Z06 Corvette’s ability to cool down its rather intense engine. Of course, this would cause the vehicle to overheat, subsequently suffering from a “heatstroke,” so to speak, and stalling out. Now, it was reported with good faith that only about 5 percent of Corvette Z06 owners had or would have experienced such an overheating, but still, the people from Corvette were not going to let such a thing escape their keen eyesight. As such, it did not take very long for Tadge Juechter, Executive Chief Engineer at Corvette, to address the C7-generation Z06’s persnickety cooling problems and state that fixing such a thing would be a major priority with regard to the coming future.
Well, Tadge has proven to be a man of his word. That is to say, Corvette recently announced that the 2017 Z06 model will be packed with a number of cooling system improvements in order to work toward making sure that customer satisfaction is a definite priority. The 2017 Z06 Corvette will provide a host of new cooling system elements consisting of a number of innovations that will most certainly work toward fixing the overheating problem experienced by a few of the Z06 customers in the past. These improvements include the likes of a redesigned hood that offers some seriously updated cooling vents. These improvements, alongside some other small tweaks to bells and whistles here and there, will certainly do wonders to better cool down the massive 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that is under the 2017 Corvette Z06’s hood.
And there is more good news. These little tweaks to the vehicle’s front end could also up the 2017 Corvette Z06’s power game. That is to say, by making it easier to cool the beast of an engine that’s under the hood, the 2017 Corvette Z06 could also garner incremental increases in power that will certainly move the already gorgeous vehicle closer toward the ballpark of 700 horsepower and 700 pounds per square foot of torque. Of course, more horsepower and more torque on an already stacked 2017 Corvette Z06 is never a bad thing in the slightest!
As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Ray Chevrolet for more information with regard to the new 2017 Corvette Z06. Too, while you are at it, why not stop by and sign up to test drive one of our many new lot vehicles? We can promise to do everything we can to help you find the right vehicle!
In the automotive world, when all is said and done, we can perhaps more than likely look at the midsize sedan segment of vehicles as one of the most competitive markets imaginable. Here, competition reigns supreme with vehicles like the Chevy Malibu, the Toyota Camry, the Ford Fusion, the Nissan Altima, and the Honda Accord solidifying their position as pretty much household names at this point. However, this rather comfortable position with regard to the sales of the midsize sedan segment has had, in the past, a bit of a negative effect; that is, automakers, resting on this comfort, have paid less attention to creating a luxurious, sporty midsize sedan that is also just flat out fun to drive simply because the sales numbers in this segment for most automakers were always pretty good.
Of course, Patrick Rall, in his review of the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu for torquenews.com, mentions all of this. “For many years,” Rall writes, “the midsized sedan segment was populated by buyers who didn’t care much about their new car looking sporty or being exciting to drive.” However, the era of the boring midsized sedan is now over! “Midsized sedans from every automaker,” Rall continues, “have gotten to be more luxurious inside, sportier on the outside, and more fun to drive—and the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Premier is the latest vehicle to storm into the sportier, more exciting era of the midsized sedan.”
And Rall is not kidding. As far as the vehicle’s exterior goes, the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Premier eschews the boxier look of previous midsized sedans, opting instead for a far more sleek (and more sheik) design that works to give off a more modern look for the vehicle all around. Too, this look pushes the 2016 Malibu in a more sporty direction, offering things like a slim upper grille with a larger lower grille, streamlined headlight that have chrome trim, a far more aerodynamic hood, and some pretty intensely designed 19” aluminum wheels.
Under the hood, the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Premier continues its sleek, sporty direction with a 2.0 liter turochared 4-cylinder engine that pushes somewhere around 250 horsepower and 260 pounds-per-square-foot of torque, all of which is coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Not to mention, the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Premier’s EPA fuel efficacy figures break down quite nicely as well, with the vehicle clocking in at 22 miles per gallon around town, 33 miles per gallon on the highway, and 26 miles per gallon combined.
As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Ray Chevrolet for more information with regard to the new 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Premier and its new, far more stylish, far more fun to drive outlook.
Touted as being “the world’s first affordable, long-range electric vehicle,” the Chevy Bolt is expected to begin production in October of this year.
The American car company’s battery and EV component supplier LG, was contracted out for the next six years back in 2015.
LG is in high demand for its low-cost, high-tech products.
Competing against the likes of the U.S., Europe and Japan, it is closing the gaps on its more widely known rivals. The Korean supplier is now the country’s second largest electronics company and is able to create products that cost about 25 percent less than neighboring Japan.
LG already makes lithium ion batteries for the Chevy Volt plug-in hybrid and is slated to build and ship core components like motors, inverters and infotainment systems for the 2017 Bolt.
And Ray Chevy has good reason to believe that the new EV is EPA-certified for a range of more than 200 miles while being spacious and highly efficient.
While we're not entirely sure what Chevy will actually name its new ground-breaking vehicle, it will share the same platform -based on the company's Gamma architecture - as the Sonic.
The Bolt will also be sporting a flat battery pack, and even though it's compact, it boasts 56.6 cubic-feet of cargo space, and plenty of head, leg and shoulder room.
The available 240-volt charging unit makes it easy to charge up and the lithium-ion battery with enhanced heat resistance and liquid cooling system to help moderate indoor temperatures.
We think Chevy is giving the Telsa Model 3 a run for its money with this little number as the stats suggest that the new long-range EV will be capable of going from 0-60 in less than 60 seconds. Plus, the Bolt will be able to restore 90 miles of range in about a half hour with Chevy’s quick charge technology, according to the carmaker.
Bolt production will be happening in Michigan, where Chevy's Orion Township assembly plant is located.
There, about 25,000-30,000 vehicles will go into production each year some of which will be shipped off to China.
Apparently, the car maker is expecting pretty heavy demand in the U.S. and has planned to roll out the Bolt first in California.
Ray Chevy doesn't expect to see Bolts in showrooms until somewhere around October. For now you can stop in to our dealership to see all our Chevrolet inventory.
Here at Ray Chevrolet we keep our eyes and ears open for news on upcoming upgrades to Chevy cars and trucks. Sometimes we report on major redesigns and sometime the changes are a little more subtle. No matter how small the changes are, however, they’re always improvements.
We will likely have to wait a few years (possibly up to four) until Chevy’s Sonic gets a total redesign, but there have been some tweaks to the 2017 model that are worth mentioning. For one, the Sonic has been the beneficiary of some styling upgrades and improvements to the interior. These are modest changes, we admit, but Chevy is focusing their energy in other areas right now. The automotive industry is subject to the whims of the public of course. With low gas prices, consumers have once again started to think big. When they do, crossovers have a little more appeal than subcompacts. Prices are also subject to change so any prolonged increase in prices at the pump could change all that. In that event, Chevy would no doubt rethink their strategy for subs.
Plans for the Sonic’s changes were announced before the 2016 New York International Auto Show this past spring. Chevrolet is hoping to appeal to Millennials with the Sonic as it has with the Chevy Spark. To help keep that appeal going, Chevy has introduced some new features to the 2017 Sonic. A heated steering wheel, for one and a seven inch touchscreen should help. Added features like the rear park assist will help too and keyless entry, push button start, power driver’s seat and heated seat clothes won’t hurt either.
On the exterior, the Sonic has been given new front and rear fascias and a new hood design. LED lighting looks great too and helps make the Sonic even sportier than ever. The choice of engines won’t be changing; however, but that’s not a bad thing. The standard 1.8 liter LUW 14 option delivers 138 horsepower and 125 lb-ft. The turbocharged version, a 1.4 liter LUV 14 also kicks out 138 horsepower but improves to 148 lb-ft.

We’re big NASCAR fans here at Ray Chevrolet and big fans of all Chevy racing teams. That’s pretty easy to do when you consider the talent and track record of the teams that have raced under the Chevy banner in recent years. That era may be drawing to a close with the upcoming retirement of another ace driver, Tony Stewart, who was preceded in his retirement plans just last year by Jeff Gordon.
One problem of being the best is that your competitors never stop gunning for you. Chevrolet has been a top competitor in NASCAR for a number of years and the challengers have never stopped stepping up their game. With the expected leveling of the playing field, it looks increasingly likely Chevy may lose its position as a perennial NASCAR favorite.
Tony Stewart is a three-time Sprint Cup winner and is in good company along with Jeff Gordon who won four titles for Chevy before his own retirement at the conclusion of last year’s racing season. With the exit of this pair of world class NASCAR drivers, the command Chevrolet has held over the Sprint Cup may start to diminish. This would be the end of an era as Stewart has only one more chance at a title -- the Chase for the Sprint Cup -- before he hangs up his racing gloves. If he is successful, this would put the total number of titles won by the two men at eight. It would also add one more to Chevy’s tally of 13 titles. Stewart and Gordon, and the rest of the Chevy race team, also got help from great drivers like Jimmie Johnson to reach that number.
We can expect that the Toyota Racing Development team will take advantage and try to fill the void left by the exit of Stewart and Gordon. Ford’s Team Penske will certainly be top contenders as well. All is not doom and gloom for Chevy race fans, however. There still is an ace in the hole, maybe several. Stewart-Haas and the Hendrick racing teams as well as young drivers like Chase Elliott and Austin Dillon will help Chevy stay competitive.
You don’t have to race to Ray Chevrolet to get a great deal on a Chevy car or truck. Take your time, we’re not going anywhere. We are located at 39 North Route 12 in Fox Lake, IL.

The Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan is bigger yet lighter for 2016, with fresh styling, a new turbo-charged engine and more technology and safety features.
Chevrolet has taken the best attributes of its accomplished Malibu and Impala sedans and tucked them into a compact, fuel-efficient package. Boasting a comfortable ride, a roomy interior, and effortless power, the Cruze is a competitive entry in a class dominated by Asian cars. With its 2016 redesign, the Cruze is more technologically advanced - and with a road-test score near the top of its class.
The star of the car is the 1.4-liter, turbo four-cylinder, which is smaller in displacement than the old 1.8-liter turbo four, but churned out satisfying power through the test vehicle’s six-speed automatic transmission. With 153 horsepower, the Cruze is more powerful than its predecessor and tops the 140 horsepower of one of its biggest competitor, the Toyota Corolla. At less than 3,000 pounds, the new Cruze weighs some 250 pounds less than its predecessor and is finally closer in weight to the Civic and Corolla. The Cruze also has 177 foot-pounds of torque - 15 more foot-pounds than the Honda Civic - helping it to beat many cars for go-go speed. Federal government fuel mileage ratings give the Cruze 30 miles per gallon in city driving and 40 MPG on highways.
Perhaps most importantly, the 2016 Cruze is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so you have an easy access to smartphone apps. The Cruze can become a Wi-Fi hotspot through a 4G LTE service, and one option allows drivers and passengers to wirelessly charge compatible devices.
New optional features let buyers add turn signals in the outside mirrors, heated rear seats, a premium Bose nine-speaker sound system and other upscale amenities. Thanks to the slightly longer body, the Cruze has a more accommodating 36.1 inches of legroom in the back seat.
The vehicle, which comes standard with ten airbags, earned an overall five out of five stars for occupant protection in federal frontal and side crash tests. The Cruze also provides five years or 60,000 miles of complimentary roadside assistance standard - Corolla and Civic roadside assistance programs don’t last as long. The Cruze also remains affordable: the starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price, including destination charge, is $17,495 for a Cruze L sedan with six-speed manual transmission.
Come take a cruise in Chevy’s new Cruze at Ray Chevrolet!
Back at last month’s Bangkok International Motor Show in Thailand, Chevrolet previewed their new Xtreme concept vehicle. Well, lo and behold, that very same Xtreme concept vehicle was just announced to actually be the automaker’s all-new 2017 Chevrolet Colorado. Now, you are probably asking yourself how a Colorado can be “all-new,” as the vehicle’s current generation is only four years old, and you would be right to ask such a question. And, while Chevrolet’s “all-new” declaration might be just an example of auto-industry hubris, you can certainly bet that this version of the American pickup truck has certainly undergone some significant changes.
First, let’s talk about the revisions occurring inside the cab of the new 2017 Chevrolet Colorado. For starters, the vehicle’s fascia has been ever so gently redone, which provides for better aesthetics and function. Do not worry, though, the classic and all too familiar steering wheel remains a significant hold out. Too, the vehicle now comes with all sorts of goodies, including things like Apple CarPlay as well as Android Auto, the MyLink infotainment system, as well as a remote engine start system. The vehicle will also feature Siri Eyes Free and voice recognition technology, front collision alert, driver’s knee airbag, and a parking assist system.
Under the hood of the new 2017 Chevrolet Colorado, the automaker has tweaked the vehicle’s 2.5-liter diesel-turbo engine in order to get the pickup to push 180 horsepower as well as 325 pounds per square foot of torque at both 3,600 rpm and 2,000 rpm. This is quite nice compared to the previous version of the Chevrolet Colorado pickup, which pushed around 163 horsepower and 280 pounds per square foot of torque. There has been no word as of yet with regard to the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado performance or economy figures, but we can assume that they are quite nice.
All in all, the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado will wear a few different hats around the world. Here in the United States and in Canada, it will (obviously) be called the 2017 Colorado. A good portion of the rest of the world (excluding Asia), however, will get the 2017 Chevrolet S10, and over in Australia and New Zealand, the vehicle will be referred to under the “Holden” brand. Still, despite the different names, it all remains the same vehicle, and one that is shaping up to be quite a positive revision to the Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck.
As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Ray Chevrolet for more information with regard to the new 2017 Chevrolet Colorado. And too, while you are at it, why not stop by and sign up to test drive one of our new lot vehicles? We can guarantee that we will do all we can to help you out.
Of course, we all love milestones, and turning 50 years old is certainly one of those milestones that hold particular weight in our culture. It is a nice, round number that signifies both dignity and longevity, just to name a few things. However, our culture is also a very disposable one that treats products like fashion. That is particularly why when something like a vehicle is able to stick around and celebrate its 50th year of production, it is definitely a big deal. Leave it to the Chevrolet Camaro to reach such a milestone. So, first things first, let’s all just wish the Camaro a happy 50th birthday. And, to mark their entry into this prestigious club, the very first Chevrolet Camaro (VIN number 100001) will, in August, be earning its place among its peers in the Historic Vehicle Association’s register: A remarkable achievement to say the least.
Despite its now 50 year history, the Chevrolet Camaro still has a bit of mystique left in the tank. For instance, did you know that we almost did not get a Camaro at all? No, what the world was almost introduced to on September 29, 1966 was the Panther. Tons of names were tossed around the Chevrolet offices for their new vehicle, and things like GeMini, Wildcat, and even Commander were topping the lists. But the automaker decided to green light the Panther name instead. The Camaro name was literally decided at the last second. How last second? Well, it turns out that Chevrolet had already spent around $100,000 on Panther badges right before the decision was made to go with the Camaro name.
Interesting naming facts aside, we should all be thankful for the Camaro, even if you are not even a fan. That is to say, if it were not for the Camaro, we would not have what is easily the most intense, longest, and greatest feud in American automotive history: The Chevrolet Camaro vs. the Ford Mustang. And it is not like this feud took a while to build up; no, the Camaro vs. Mustang rivalry started from the get-go. The Mustang had enjoyed a nice reign at the top for a while, but the Camaro raced up rather fast, selling 400,000 unites in its first to years, in order to challenge the Mustang’s kingship.
Besides turning 50 and entering the Historic Vehicle Association’s register, the Chevrolet Camaro also holds another honor: It is the third most popular collector car in the United States. That is right, according to Hagerty, there are just over a million collector cars insured in the United States, and the insurance company notes that the Camaro sits as the third most popular right behind the Ford Mustang (number two) and the Chevrolet Corvette (number one).
As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Ray Chevrolet for more information with regard to the Camaro’s 50th birthday.
If there is one thing all car enthusiasts love, it is special editions of popular vehicles. Last year, Chevrolet introduced us all to their Realtree and Midnight editions of their poplar Silverado pickup truck. “We introduced several special editions in 2015—each combining equipment and appearance packages designed for specific enthusiasts in mind,” said Sandor Piszar, Chevrolet Truck Marketing Director. “They also helped make Chevrolet the fastest-growing truck brand in the industry. In 2015, total Chevrolet truck sales increased 27 percent—double the increase for the total truck market. […] As we expand our lineup of special editions for 2016, we expect to continue that momentum.” To keep up this momentum, then, the automaker has recently announced plans for an all new edition Silverado to be available later this month: The Chevrolet Silverado Rally Edition.
As they have done in the past, Chevrolet plans to have two separate versions of the truck: the Rally 1 and the Rally 2. Both trucks, however, present a monochromatic grille with a black bowtie emblem located on the front end. Too, the Rally 1 version will be available in the Silverado Double Cab version as well as in the Custom trim, which adds black stripes to the hood and the sides. And too, this version also comes with 20-inch black five-spoke wheels. The Rally 2 version of the Chevrolet Silverado Rally Edition will be available on in the LT Z71 trim for the Double Cab and Crew Cab. As well as stripes, the Rally 2 will boast side steps as well as 22-inch black six-spoke wheels.
Chevrolet also had big plans for the Silverado Rally Edition at this year’s Texas Motor Speedway. “To celebrate the introduction of the new Rally, Silverado special editions are taking over the Speedway this weekend, each paired with a different Chevrolet Racing driver,” the automaker said in a press release. “Dale Earnhardt, Jr. is campaigning for the new Rally Edition, which will be available later this moth.”
Founded in 1911 in Detroit, Chevrolet is now one of the world’s largest automakers, pushing business in over 115 countries, as well as selling more then 4.0 million cars and trucks a year. The brand works to provide customers with fuel-efficient cars and trucks that also feature engaging performance, eye-catching design, as well as passive and active safety features, and easy to use technology.
As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us here at Ray Chevrolet for more information with regard to Chevrolet’s new 2016 Silverado Rally Edition. Too, you should certainly come down and sign up to test drive one of our new lot vehicles; you definitely will not be disappointed.
General Motors president Dan Ammann said the Detroit automaker has “a lot of the pieces in place now” to develop ride sharing businesses, autonomous vehicles, and services that rely on both.
General Motors, likely to be quick to market with a self-driving car, plans to begin testing autonomous Chevy Volt taxis within a year. Using the technology developed by Cruise Automation, the automaker hopes to launch its autonomous-test program on public roadways within a year.
All the big automakers are trying to secure alliances with ride-hailing companies in part to develop new channels for selling vehicles, and in part as a hedge against a shift by consumers from traditional car ownership to ride hailing and shared vehicles owned by someone else.
GM recently proposed the $1 billion purchase of start-up Cruise Automation, a software firm that has created self-driving programming. The company has also invested $500 million in Lyft to become a major player in ride-sharing. The automaker will use its stake in Lyft to support its autonomous driving effort.
At the heart of that effort is the Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicle (EV).
Spec-wise, the Bolt EV will rival the Tesla Model 3. A 200-hp electric motor will give the Bolt a 0-60 time of under 7 seconds; expect a range greater than 200 miles. A quick charger will restore up to 90 miles of range in 30 minutes. With edgy styling the Bolt will absolutely satisfy buyers on aesthetic; the net price should be around $30,000 after tax credits.
Though there will be drivers in the trial vehicles, Lyft’s ultimate goal is driverless cars. Still, Lyft is realistic enough to realize drivers are still needed due to regulatory issues.
So far, Ammann said, GM is focusing on the United States in its joint effort with Lyft.
The GM president also endorsed legislation pending before the Michigan legislature that would remove regulatory obstacles to testing autonomous vehicles on public roads.
Ride-sharing using self-driving cars is a long-term opportunity, Ammann said. In the shorter term, he said, GM and Lyft are working together to expand ride-hailing using GM vehicles today. In Chicago, GM and Lyft are working on a program that allows would-be Lyft drivers to rent a vehicle for a short period, use it to provide rides to customers, and then return it.
In any case, autonomous cars and ride-sharing are all the talk nowadays in terms of the future of transportation. It’s no surprise that GM’s at the lead.
Recently, Team Chevy has been tearing it up with regard to the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series season. “[Qualifying] showed that our team—it’s very consistent. It’s very—we’re always […] putting ourselves in a very good condition. We’re working together very hard, and as they say, it’s better to be lucky than good. So I’ll take this one. It was great. We had a fast car. We were consistent, and we just repeated pole position again, so I’m happy that finally our plan paid off, and we’re showing speed and we’re starting in the right position today,” said Helio Castroneves, No. 3 Auto Club of Southern California Team Penske Chevrolet, Pole Winner.
The Team Chevy drivers have won the first three of the Verizon P1 Awards of the 2016 season. “I’m stoked, considering how we started this weekend,” noted Scott Dixon, No. 9 Target Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet. “We tried a totally different setup from last year. The cars have changed, especially aerodynamically, so we thought we might need some different things, but that wasn’t the case. Even this morning, we struggled a little bit. Some good old front wing helped us today as we were able to carry the speed of the Target car through the corners. We could have had it if the qualifying had carried through. We had the speed for pole. But front row is a good place to start and hopefully we can replicate the race from last year.” Of course, the race from last year he is referring to here is Team Chevy’s win that marked their 11th championship.
And, of course, hopefully the good qualifying will mean a 12th championship. The qualifying was a little rocky, though, but it defiantly got the job done. “Yeah, it was an interesting Fast Six,” said Simon Pagenaud, No. 22 PPG Automotive Refinish Team Penske Chevrolet. “We locked in one lap. Luckily that was good for P-3. But yeah, I was concerned. We didn’t have a lap in when the red came out. I’m happy with third right now because I really thought we were getting sixth. Yeah, the car was really good. PPG car has been strong all weekend. Everybody at Penske has been really strong. I think we actually have a better race car than a qualifying car, so P-3 is good.”
That is not to say that the team’s qualifying car is not a good one, however. “When you look at the practice, we were all—all the cars were the fastest cars normally in practice. Our car is good,” says Juan Pablo Montoya, No. 2 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet.
Here’s hoping for that 12th championship. As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Ray Chevrolet for more information with regard to Chevrolet’s racing season.

For the past eight years, the Chevy Traverse has been a family-hauling favorite for many Americans.
This three row, eight-passenger crossover currently sports the first-generation Lambda platform, a 3.6-liter V6 288 horsepower engine, and six-speed automatic transmission.
But all of that is set to change with the newly redesigned 2018 model.
This year’s Traverse does, however, have more in common with the 2016 Buick Enclave and Acadia than just its underpinnings. A few is those similarities include a 118.9 inch wheelbase, 288 horsepower, and 270 lb. ft. of torque.
Plus, they each top the list of the most "American-made" cars.
Aside from its platform mates, the 2016 the Traverse has received some pretty nice upgrades - power-folding outside mirrors, your choice of 20 inch painted aluminum wheels or machined aluminum finish, OnStar 4G LTE with Wi-Fi, optional universal tablet holders, Iridescent Pearl and Mosaic Black Metallic exterior paint colors, and Leather and Driver Confidence Packages for the LT trims.
With the kind of success the Traverse has enjoyed as one of the front runners of the compact CUV segment, it's hard to imagine Chevy improving on this popular American nameplate.
Ray Chevrolet has been told that the all-new second generation Traverse will be shedding its skin and trying on a new platform for size: the brand's global vehicle architecture C1XX.
This should leave the CUV about 300 pounds lighter and boost fuel economy, while enhancing acceleration, braking, and handling.
Experts predict that the even though the all new Traverse will be about 200 inches in length, it will offer more interior room than its predecessor – a change that will affect the 2017 GMC Acadia, 2017 Cadillac XT5, and the 2018 Buick Enclave, as well.
It’s also believed that the next gen Traverse will come equipped with all-wheel drive, along with a front-wheel drive option and consist of two new engines – a 2.5L LCV four cylinder and a 3.6L V6 LGX said to deliver 300 horsepower. Each engine will be mated to either an eight speed transmission or a nine-speed automatic transmission.
As for the features, the 2018 Traverse will offer the MyLink infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and the most up-to-date active safety/driver assistance systems.
Look for the all new CUV to make its debut sometime in 2017. And priced around $30,000, the Chevy Traverse should make for another huge in the ever-growing CUV segment this year.
Talk to anyone with regard to a tried and true Chevrolet model vehicle, and they will likely bring up three candidates: the rugged good looks of the Camaro, the sleek styling of the Corvette, or the elegant and posh Impala. However, there might soon be an addition to this tried and true Chevrolet team. That is to say, he all new second generation Chevrolet Cruze has undoubtedly stepped up its proverbial game and very much deserves its place among the stars.
That is, strike the new 2016 Chevrolet Cruze from your list of vanilla, run of the mill compacts, because this baby got a full on upgrade, especially when it comes to the interior of the vehicle. With a starting price of just $17,495 and taking a page from its more famous brothers and sisters, the 2016 Cruze offers an eye-catching different vehicle from the previous models, both inside and out via its Impala inspired face as well as its Camaro inspired interior. “The Chevrolet family needs consistency,” said Global Vehicle Chief Engineer Martin Hayes. “There’s commonality in Cruze and Impala and Malibu in the lines. And in the interior, there’s a Camaro look around the steering wheel and the pod around the gauge cluster.”
Not to mention the all-new 2016 Chevrolet Cruze boast an EPA-estimated 42 miles per gallon on the highway. That is significantly better than the Nissan Sentra FE (which pushes 40 miles per gallon), the Hyundai Elantra (which gives 37 miles per gallon), the four-cylinder Ford Focus (which gives about 40 mils per gallon), and the VW Jetta (which pushes about 40 miles per gallon as well). “Offering a maximum highway range of up to 570 miles per tank, you can spend less time at the pump,” notes Steve Majoros, Director of Marketing for Chevrolet. “The 2016 Chevrolet Cruze has more horsepower and torque, and is lighter than the previous generation, making it more fun to drive.” And more fun is right. That is, the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze offers a new, direct-inject 1.4-liter Ecotec turbocharged engine, which alone drops the vehicle’s weight by nearly 250 pounds. Too the vehicle also has new stop/start technology, which works to improve the Cruze’s efficiency in slower traffic.
And if you want to talk about connectivity, the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze has you quite covered. “With 4G LTE Wi-Fi, OnStar, Apple Carplay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth technology available in all our vehicles, it’s really important to have a quiet car so you can really use it,” says Al Manzor, North America Chief Engineer for GM Small Vehicles.
As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Ray Chevrolet for more information with regard to the all-new 2016 Chevrolet Cruze.

After running into some trouble with a crash test in Latin America, General Motors will shift its policy and begin adding airbags to every vehicle it sells worldwide. The automaker will also beef up the standard security features in its cars.
It will cost about $5 billion to bring the worldwide GM fleet up to these new, higher safety standards but the company believes it’s worth it, especially if the move prompts other mainstream manufacturers to follow suit. Government regulators and safety advocates worldwide estimate that 1.25 million people died on highways globally last year.
The new safety changes will target emerging markets like Africa, Latin America and smaller Asian countries like Vietnam and Indonesia.
This upheaval comes after the Latin New Car Assessment Program – an independent testing group similar to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in the US – gave the Chinese-made version of the Chevrolet Sail subcompact a zero star rating when tests demonstrated that it was unstable and poorly equipped for a crash.
The vehicle did not have airbags, nor did it have three-point seatbelts in each seat. Antilock brakes aren’t mandatory and aren’t even offered as options on many lower-model vehicles in these countries, which is just further evidence that where regulators won’t step in to improve safety measures, automakers must.
GM CEO Mary Barra explained that the Sail was stripped down to make it more affordable previously, but the need for change can’t be ignored. Barra has since pledged to step up safety efforts, announcing that all GM vehicles will be equipped with basic airbags by 2019. We’ll have to await a follow up for more information, but it’s probable that thanks to wider distribution and falling prices, ABS and more advanced electronic stability controls will be integrated shortly.
Safety experts emphasize that it’s especially important to implement airbags and other technologies in markets like China and rural Latin America, where roads are poorly marked, badly maintained and overcrowded, and where an entire generation of first-time vehicle owners haven’t received proper driving instruction and don’t understand the basic rules of the road.
In the US, we thankfully made passive restraint systems mandatory for all drivers starting in 1989. Since then, federal laws and consumer dedication to safety has led to the introduction of even more safety features, like stability control. Forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking will even become standard on virtually all US vehicles by 2022.
At Ray Chevrolet, your safety is always of paramount concern to us. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions regarding vehicle safety or which vehicle will suit your family’s safety needs best. We’re located at 39 N. Route 12 in Fox Lake, IL.
Time keeps moving and so does change. We’re fine with that here at Ray Chevrolet, as long as that change is positive. We think the new C8 Chevrolet Corvette is a positive sign of things to come, even if we have to wait almost two years to see it.
The North American International Auto Show will be the likely debut of the C8, although probably not until 2018. This V8 will be able to deliver close to 500 horsepower when production begins. We can also expect to say goodbye to the C7. All good things must end, but there’s certainly comfort in knowing something better is in the pipeline. The C7’s powertrain served Chevrolet well for over the past six decades. There’s still the final C7 edition to look forward to as well. The final bow will likely take place at the North American International Auto Show next year.
Chevrolet already has plans to introduce an upgrade to the C8 in early 2019 thanks to a four-cam, 32 valve V8. It looks like the Corvette dance card is going to be full for the foreseeable future. We don’t want to neglect mentioning the E-Ray Corvette hybrid that GM has in store for 2020 either, but let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves here. For now we can only speculate about what the end product will look like. The C8s we’ve managed to catch glimpses of have been few and far between.
Right now the base version of the Corvette is priced under $60,000. This will likely rise by at least $20k when the C8 arrives. We think it will be well worth the price bump, however. We also think Chevrolet Corvette fans will agree. This is going to be twenty grand more Corvette in equal amounts of performance and power, not to mention style.
You don’t have to wait until the C8 debuts. The future is now and featured on our lot here at Ray Chevrolet. Stop by today and talk to one of our knowledgeable and friendly salespeople about your next Corvette or any other model of Chevy car or truck. We are located at 39 North Route 12 in Fox Lake, IL.
You know we love auto racing here at Ray Chevrolet and the Indy 500 is the event we look forward to most every year. What’s not to love about watching such a thrilling competition at the best motorsports track in the world? Never mind the fact that it kicks off another summer season of cookouts and outdoor fun. Chevy may not have taken the top spot at this year’s event. They may not have even taken the number two position, but Chevy drivers still has plenty to be proud of and of course race fans got another great contest.
The top spot, in fact, went to California racer, Alexander Rossi who won the 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500 by coasting across the finish line ahead of teammate Carlos Munoz by 4.4975 seconds. Rossi did so in his No. 98 NAPA Auto Parts/Curb Honda and become only the tenth rookie to win in the history of the race.
The lead changed over fifty times during the course of the race, the second most after the 68 swaps that occurred three years ago. Rossi’s teammate, Munoz’s second place finish is his second runner-up spot in four attempts. Number 21, Josef Newgarden, racing for Ed Carpenter Racing, crossed the line to secure a third place finish in the Preferred Freezer Chevrolet. Newgarden was disappointed to say the least. He was followed by Tony Kanaan, driving No. 10 NTT Data Chevrolet for Chip Ganassi Racing. Kanaan lead for 19 laps but obviously could not hold that lead. This was the 12th time he has had a lead at the Indy 500 and we hope next year he can seal the deal. Fifth place also went to a Chevy. It was Charlie Kimball, No. 42 in his Tresiba Chevrolet driving for Ganassi. With a last place finish at 33rd place, defending Indy 500 winner Juan Pablo Montoya brought in his No. 2 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet. This was no doubt due to a crash that occurred on Lap 64 which made him the third reigning winner to also take a last place finish in the race.
You don’t have to race to get to use here at Ray Chevrolet. Take your time, we’re not going anywhere! We are located at 39 North Route 12 in Fox Lake, IL. And when you get here test drive one of our great Chevy vehicles whether it be a sports car or crossover!
Since probably as early as the 1960s, there has been talk about the possibility of a mid-engine Corvette. Well, 2016 is certainly no different. That is, with the beast that is the Internet making the circulation of hearsay far easier, there have been rumors making their way around the web with regard to Chevrolet’s alleged plans for a mid-engine Corvette. However as of late, such rumors have possibly been confirmed . . . maybe. That is to say, back in 2015 when a photo surfaced of what could possibly be a mid-engine Corvette at a General Motors proving ground in Milford, Michigan, the folks over at Car and Driver took it upon themselves to dive deeper into the rumor mill and figure out what such a photo was all about, and learned that it is certainly possible for a new mid-engine C8 Corvette to make its appearance as soon as the 2018 Detroit Auto Show.
Too, according to Car and Driver, the base model for the new rumored C8 Corvette will, as before, feature General Motor’s pushrod V8 engine, which will work to provide approximately between 450 and 500 horsepower. Naturally, more extreme versions of the vehicle (for example, the ZR1 or something along those lines) will follow the base-version’s debut, as well as versions with dual overhead engines and hybrid technology.
The next few years are going to definitely be a big deal for the Corvette namesake. In January of 2019, Chevrolet plans to have a whole new engine ready for the C8 Corvette, which Car and Driver also mentions could be a 32-valve, four-cam V8 not at all dissimilar in design from the LT5 power plant used in the C4 Corvette ZR-1. Not to mention, there are more rumors (also mentioned by Car and Driver) that Chevrolet has plans with regard to a new hybrid model they have lovingly named the “E-Ray” Corvette that could debut as early as 2020. Needless to say, all these rumors should keep even the most armchair Corvette fan quite happy for the next five or so years.
With the way the sports car market has evolved over, say, the past ten or so years, it makes complete sense—from most perspectives, but especially from a business one—for Chevrolet to invest in a mid-engine Corvette. The market is certainly there for such a thing, and the timing could not be better. Such a thing could give the Corvette the boost it deserves in order to become a semi-exotic halo model for Chevrolet around the world, much like what the GT-R is for Nissan and the NSX is for Acura and Honda. Nevertheless, we will just have to wait and see what the future holds.
As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Ray Chevrolet for more information with regard to the possibility of a mid-engine Corvette by 2018.
In recent months, Chevrolet has been on a special edition kick when it comes to their pickup truck division. Continuing this trend with regard to special editions of their pickup trucks, Chevrolet has recently introduced another new package model for their Silverado brand: the High Desert package. Now, vigilant readers will be quick to point out that such a package sounds awfully familiar to Chevrolet’s High Country package that was available for the Silverado as well, and such vigilant readers will be right to note that the two packages do sound the same. However, such similarities stop after one notices that “High Country” and “High Desert” both sound like places on a mountain. In fact, the new Silverado High Desert edition package adds quite a lot to the pickup truck than even its similarly named cousin.
Most of the new Silverado High Desert special edition package has been taken from a concept truck (also called the High Desert) that Chevrolet put on display back at the 2014 SEMA show in Las Vegas. A few new features were added, however, such as Avalanche-like sail panels as well as a pseudo roll bar behind the cab. Other than the sail panels and the roll bar, the new package features a really smart trunk-like compartment that is built into the bed of the pickup. Too, the High Desert Silverado will be the first vehicle to offer General Motors’ new Magnetic Ride Suspension system that should certainly work to give the big pickup truck a smooth ride as well as easy handling. The Magnetic Ride Suspension system works like this: Shock absorbers are filled with what Chevrolet refers to as “magneto-rheological” fluid (basically oil infused with metal shavings). A magnetic current, then, reacts with the metal in the magneto-rheological fluid in order to stiffen or dampen the shock absorbers pretty much instantaneously with regard to the road’s surface, which itself is being constantly measured by special sensors.
According the Chevrolet, the High Desert special edition Silverado is expected to arrive at Chevrolet dealers’ showrooms sometime this fall; however, as of right now what the price of such a vehicle will be is still a mystery. It is probably safe to say, though, that a fully loaded High Country version of the Chevrolet Silverado will more than likely push well over the $60,0000 mark, but of course only time will tell.
As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Ray Chevrolet for more information with regard to the new High Desert special edition Silverado. Too, while you are at it, why not come by and sign up for a test drive? We would be happy to help you out in any way possible.
It seems that compact SUVs and crossover sales are on the rise, as gas prices drop and consumers look for more car at a lesser price.
And according to JD Power and Associates, out of 10 possible reasons people bought their cars in 2015,
fuel economy came in 8th - down from number 6 in 2014.
These vehicles also make it easier for passenger and driver to step inside without feeling like they have to hop up into a full-sized truck or sink down into a sedan.
Another reason that the compact truck segment's growing popularity is that these vehicles usually come equipped with standard features like - two-row seating, fuel economy, off-roading capabilities, and tech and safety equipment.
Because compact SUVs have experienced such strong numbers over the last few years, small cars seem to have taken a backseat.
The Associated Press reports that smaller cars are staying longer on dealer lots across the board - longer than they have in the past 7 years.
As for the Chevy brand, its Sonic, Spark and Trax models were responsible for 6.7 percent of the 656,172 U.S. sales this year through April.
Sonic sales are11 percent year-to-date, while Spark sales are at 36 percent. Chevy’s subcompact Trax is having the best year out of the three, with sales up 39 percent.
In light of these findings, the American car company created a website called ChevySmallCars.com strictly for the Sonic, Spark and Trax to target younger buyers.
From what we know at Ray Chevrolet, this latest campaign has been launched to get the word out about Chevy’s lesser known small cars. “We’ve introduced a lot of new vehicles in the last few years and the new website is a great way to expose a portion of our portfolio that not everyone knows about,” said Steve Majoros director of cars and crossovers.
To come up with content that resonated with younger buyers, Chevy partnered up with popular video website, Funny or Die and comedian Al Madrigal.
Customization tools, mix tapes and musical performances were also added to the “lifestyle oriented” website for engagement.
In addition, the Sonic, Spark, and Trax are featured in several short webisodes titled “Small Talk,” while the site presents “Find Your Smallmate” - a quiz that pairs a small car with the player’s personality.
Chevy will also collaborate with media outlets like Mic, Complex and Thrillist to reach various groups.
Ever wonder how many vehicles are actually made here in the U.S.?
We did some digging and many of us here at Ray Chevrolet were surprised to find out that the phrase “American made” doesn’t necessarily just encompass production - it also includes the vehicle’s domestic parts.
And according to Cars.com, for the first time in 10 years, the number of vehicles that made the website’s American –Made Index (AMI) in 2015, had dropped below ten cars.
A barometer by which the automotive classified site uses to rate cars built and brought to the U.S., the AMI is published annually and contains a list of vehicles that fit its predetermined criteria.
The models that comprise the Cars.com American – Made Index this year are: Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Toyota Sienna, Honda Odyssey, Honda Pilot, Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia, and the Buick Enclave.
For perspective, in 2000, the number of cars that qualified for this list was 29. Last year, that number dropped down to 7. In 2016, the number increased by just one model.
Let’s be clear, the production of vehicles in the U.S. is not the issue – it’s actually growing.
A year ago, more than 100 vehicle models were assembled in America – all of which account for many of 2015’s new car sales.
Cars.com says that it looks at several different factors when determining which cars make the list. Its picks are evaluated on a model-by-model basis, not by manufacturer.
Each car must be assembled in the U.S., contain mostly domestic parts, and be bought largely by Americans.
Vehicle models with a domestic-parts content ration below 75 percent, those built solely outside the U.S., and models ready to be discontinued without a U.S.-built successor, are disqualified from the list.
We’re thrilled that three of GM’s vehicles - Chevy Traverse, Buick Enclave, and GMC Acadia have made the short list of the Most American Made Cars again in 2016.
And according to Forbes.com, the Traverse is the highest-ranking U.S. brand vehicle on the in the running, as well as the best-selling model of the three GM trucks.
The AMI is not the only American made list GM cars made this year.
The Kogood School of Business also compiles its own data to determine which cars it deems most American.
The Made in America Auto Index is published every year with its own set of standards – not very different than Cars.com, though a bit more comprehensive.
Twelve of the top 14 models on the list were GM made – with the Traverse, Enclave, and Acadia tied for 1st place.
If you’re in the market for quality vehicle made right here in the USA, head on over to Ray Chevrolet. We’ve got your covered.
Honestly, it is about time this happened. GM was quite the juggernaut in the small car division for a good while. However, during the 1980s, the push for things like Honda Civics and Accords or Toyota Corollas and Camrys baffled the higher ups over at GM. It seemed that they just could not (or maybe did not) want to believe that American customers were preferring foreign imports rather than their United States brand. GM put all their eggs into one consumer basket, so to speak. So much so that, by the time the automaker realized what it had done, the company had turned its focus (and therefore its resources) to pushing their various lines of pickups rather than focusing on sedans. This, of course, caused smaller GM brands to lag a bit with regard to others, especially Japanese models that seemed to constantly improve.
However, that is not so much the case anymore! That is to say, Chevy’s new 2017 Cruze model could possibly be the best small car that GM has built in quite a while, maybe even ever. So much so, that even Honda, Mazda, and Toyota stalwart critics are boasting about the Chevy Cruze’s build quality and adequate power pushed by its 153 horsepower, 1.4-liter turbocharged engine.
GM first introduced the Cruze was pushed globally in 2009, but it still did not seem to taken seriously in the United States until around 2010, when the automaker itself started to seem like it was taking the brand seriously. Sales for the 2017 Cruze continue to illustrate this trend, with the numbers for units sold in May being somewhere around 16,671, according to Kelley Blue Book, which is a 17.8 percent sales increase from where they were during the month of May last year.
The 2017 Chevrolet Cruze is available at this moment as a sedan, but a hatchback version of the vehicle is set to be released this fall. With these types of sales numbers, along with the steady increase in Cruze sales that GM is currently enjoying, look for the Cruze to become a staple small car for the United States brand, and the vehicle could prove to be an essential money maker the likes of which Chevrolet’s small car division has not seen in quite some time.
As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Ray Chevrolet for more information with regard to the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze. Too, while you are at it, why not stop by and sign up to test drive one of our many new vehicles? We can promise to help you out in whatever ways we can!
You would not really think it—like it would not be the first thing that would probably cross your mind—but the Chevy Malibu has a certain history with rock music. In fact, Chevrolet as a whole can certainly be said to have a bit of a past with the famously hard hitting brand of entertainment. But, obvious or not, Chevy—on the one hand—has established its relationship with rock music via its commercials and promotions that feature a numerous amount of rock singers and bands. Everyone from Dinah Shore singing “See the USA in your Chevrolet” to Ray Charles, Bob Seger, and Kid Rock have been featured. “Not many companies have musical connections like Chevy,” noes Paul Edwards, United States Vice President of Marketing for the automaker, and he is certainly correct in his assumption. “The problem is that people don’t care about Chevy,” he continues. “We’re fighting apathy because we haven’t had the right vehicles in recent years.”
True to that claim, it seems Chevy’s pretty spot on with its advertising using rock music to speak to younger and younger generations (generations, need I remind you, that will be eventual customers for the bowtie brand), all they need is the vehicle power to keep people on board. And they seem to be heading in that direction nowadays; especially with the potential revitalization of their small car brand (with things like the 2017 Cruze looking pretty good in this respect).
In an article for Forbes with regard to Chevy’s musical history, writer John McCormick notes that recently a group of Chevy test drivers were offered a rare chance to be a part of that history. “And a few auto writers have a chance not just to visit Muscle Shoals’ Fame Studios, but also to actually record an original tune there with a renowned Nashville producer,” he writes. “The evening before our test drive our media group had dinner in Nashville with Frank Rogers, a song writer and producer with a resume that reads like a who’s who of country music stars, including Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker, Allison Krauss, Sheryl Crow, and many more. Despite his success, Rogers is down to earth and funny and against the odds he manages to coax our motley crew of writers into creating a song over dinner. At that stage we had no idea we would be turning our crude composition into an actual recording the following evening.”
Here’s to hoping we all get a chance to hear McCormick and company’s recording in the next Chevy Malibu commercial.
As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Ray Chevrolet for more information with regard to Chevrolet’s very interesting history when it comes to advertising and rock music. Too, while you are at it, why not stop by and sign up to test drive one of our many new lot vehicles. We can promise to do everything we can to help you out!
The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro is a legendary muscle car that is all-new this year and will turn every head on the street as you drive past. This is one of the most anticipated cars for the 2016 model year, and it has rolled off of the assembly line ready to take down the competition with powerful engines, unique styling, and a good dose of nostalgia.
For the 2016 model year, the Chevrolet Camaro is all-new, with a freshly sculpted exterior and a modern, user-friendly interior. The Camaro will also be available with a new four-cylinder engine alongside the traditional V6 and V8 choices. All of the changes to the vehicle have helped the muscle car drop 200 pounds for increased speed.
The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro’s exterior is streamlined with a strong stance that tells the world very loudly how powerful it is. The car’s shape still harkens back to the original Camaro shape, but with a more modern twist. The front grille looks very serious, with a smaller grille than the previous generation, and the rear of the vehicle is accentuated with LED tail lamps.
The 2.0-liter four-cylinder SIDI engine with VVT achieves 275 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, which is nothing to sneeze at. The larger 3.6-liter V6 direct injection engine with VVT performs at 225 horsepower and 284 lb-ft of torque. The largest engine option is a 6.2-liter V8 direct injection engine that packs a punch with 455 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque.
The Chevy Camaro is a powerhouse of a car, and that is reflected in its fuel efficiency. At this time, there is no EPA estimate available for the four-cylinder engine. The V6 engine paired with a manual transmission achieves 18/27 MPG city/highway. With a manual transmission, the V8 engine option achieves 16/25 MPG city/highway. The automatic transmission paired with the V8 engine is estimated to get 17/28 MPG city/highway.
The interior of the Chevy Camaro is sporty and modern, with a functional shape and sport bucket seats. It’s also equipped with the latest technology, like Chevrolet MyLink and an available Bose sound system to keep drivers entertained on any drive, whether it’s a run around a track or the morning commute. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto ensure that you stay connected to your mobile device but keep your eyes on the road and any obstacles ahead.
Drivers can rest easy knowing that this car has been put through rigorous GM testing, in addition to being road track tested on eight of the world’s most famous tracks. The Chevy Camaro’s intricate airbag system, partnered with a rear vision camera, is ready to protect passengers if the worst should happen.
Standard safety features include a rear vision camera, dual-stage frontal airbags, driver and front passenger airbags, head curtain side-impact airbags, 3-point safety belts, thorax side-impact and knee airbags, LATCH system (Lower Anchors and top Tethers for Children), for safety seats, and a trunk emergency release handle.
The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro is offered in four trim levels: 1LT, 2LT, 1SS, and 2SS. All models are available as coupes or convertibles. Stop by Ray Chevrolet today to check out your options!
This fall, Chevrolet dealers will stock a hatchback that can actually fit four adults without making them bump elbows. The 2017 Cruze hatchback, like five-door versions of the Ford Focus and Mazda 3, will be offered at a slight premium over the sedan.
The Cruze was redesigned for 2016, and this is the first time we’re seeing the hatchback version. The previous-generation Cruze was offered as a hatchback in Europe starting in 2012, but the company has never sold it in the States before. This time, the US market not only is getting the more-Eurotastic body style, but we’re getting it before the Continent; Chevrolet says that the U.S. will be the first market to get the car.
The hatch, which is powered by the same 153-hp 1.4-liter turbo four-cylinder as the sedan, will be offered in the top two of the sedan’s four trim levels: LT and Premier. But whereas the sedan uses a beam-axle rear suspension in all models save the Premier, the hatchback will have an independent rear suspension both in the Premier and the LT. The RS appearance package also is available on both models.
Its wheelbase is unchanged at 106.3 inches, but the hatchback is slightly shorter overall. Still, it offers 18.5 cubic-feet of cargo space and up to 47.2 cubic-feet with the seats folded. Considering the extra storage and sleeker style, its $22,190 base price is well worth the jump.
That’s for the base LT, which on the sedan is the second-highest trim in a four-tier lineup. The four-cylinder is paired with a six-speed manual or automatic, but with an independent rear suspension to replace the sedan LT’s more rudimentary beam-axle design. Standard and optional equipment haven’t been announced, but expect little differentiation between the two body styles other than the hatch’s extra 3.7 cubic-feet of cargo space (18.5 total) behind the rear seats. With seats folded down, the hatchback’s back end can swallow up to 47 cubic-feet.
Inside, the environment works even better than it looks, with the touchscreen running Chevrolet’s easy-to-use MyLink infotainment menu and the hard-button controls operating with a well-damped smoothness. Usefulness abounds: There are storage cubbies in the doors, a stash spot for a phone ahead of the shifter, and a total of six cup holders. The front center armrest slides fore and aft. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration is built in, and when an iPhone is hooked up using a USB cable, the driver can call out Siri commands or manage music selections via the touchscreen or a secondary display in the gauge cluster using a steering-wheel control pad. (The same goes for an Android phone, albeit with Google, not Siri, as the personal assistant.) Yes, GM’s 4G LTE data connection and a Wi-Fi hotspot are standard.
Between its accommodating cabin, supple suspension, and strong but muted engine, the Cruze offers a lot to recommend it. Stop by Ray Chevrolet to see for yourself!
We have certainly seen this before. Perhaps not to this extent, but we have certainly seen this before. That is to say, recently a new ad campaign was launched for the Chevrolet Silverado that is fanning the flames, so to speak, with regard to the age old battle between the pickup and the Ford F-150. The new ad particularly focuses on the claim that the Siverado’s steel bed is far more durable than the F-150’s, as the ad depicts a bunch of front loaders dropping around 825 pounds worth of landscaping stones into both truck beds. Chevy goes on to claim that, while the Silverado’s bed held up to the abuse, the F-150’s bed all but held together, getting punctured and cracked in the process. According to a statement given by Chevrolet, this absolutely “demonstrates why Silverado is a smart choice for customers shopping for a truck they can use as a truck.”
Ford, however, were quick to write such a thing off as simple marketing: “When you’re the market leader for 39 years, competitors sometimes try to take shots at you with marketing stunts,” writes Ford Spokesman Mike Levine. “The fact remains that F-150’s high strength, military grade, aluminum alloy cargo box offers the best combination of strength, durability, corrosion resistance, capability, safety, and fuel efficiency ever offered in a pickup.” Chevrolet truck marketing manager Sandor Piszar was quick to respond to Levine’s accusation, telling reporters that the ad is “not an attack on Ford. It’s not an attack on aluminum. It’s us showing that we have a better choice for customers in the highly competitive truck segment.”
Of course, this recent back and forth is a huge escalation in the ongoing war between the two biggest pickup brands on the market today. Both companies insist their product is the better choice, which smart business dictates should definitely happen. “Truck customers demand the ability to haul their toys, tools, and other cargo,” Piszar also noted in a press release. “These videos demonstrate the real world benefits of the Silverado’s bed, in both extreme and everyday scenarios.” Ultimately, though, it is really left to the customer to decide which best works for them. The recent ad campaign, however, is definitely a pretty big mark against Ford’s “Built For Tough” gimmick. We will see how such a thing shapes up in the near future.

There are a few things automakers can do to up the prestige of one of their vehicles: make them appeal to collectors; make sure they are protected, racing wise; keep the mystery with regard to them fresh until their reveal, and et cetera et cetera. If you are Chevrolet, however, there is one very special thing that you can do to make your vehicle pop more than most cars on the street: All black everything. That is the concept by which Chevrolet approaches their famous midnight editions. We have already seen the likes of the Impala, Silverado, and Colorado midnight themselves with regard to their various Midnight Editions, which all look absolutely amazing by the way (just in case you ever doubted that), and now it seems like it is time for the same treatment to be applied to the Trax. That is, Chevrolet recently announced the arrival of their Trax Midnight Edition, and it continues the legacy of Chevy’s Midnights by looking absolutely beautiful.
Of course, the question now becomes which of the Trax incarnations is best suited for the midnight branding. That would probably have to go to the subcompact Trax crossover, which seems like it would benefit the most from the all black makeover. Either way, whichever version of the Chevrolet Trax grabs the Midnight Edition spot, you can rest assured that the special edition will look gorgeous. That is to say, the Trax Midnight Edition is based on the upper level LTZ trim, which adds to this by blacking out the wheels, headlight bezels, door handles, trim, and even a darker rear license plate embellishment for a little extra flair. Too, the seats also boast a bit of grey accents and piping for that mark of class and sleekness.
Other than the midnight features, however, the Trax Midnight Edition comes completely stock. Still, customers will have the option of adding the Midnight Edition package to the 2016 Trax LTZ (which runs stock for $26,125) for an extra $500, which looks to be well worth it. In the long run, the new Chevrolet Trax Midnight Edition will certainly appeal to collectors, but too it will definitely cause a spark in those of us who are looking for a sleek, clean looking, and affordable ride with all the prowess one can handle.
As is always the case, keep checking back in here with us at Ray Chevrolet for more information with regard to the all-new Chevy Trax Midnight Edition. Too, while you are at it, why not come down and sign up to test drive one of our new lot vehicles? We can promise to do everything we can to help you out!
The move follows the end of Chevy's business relationship with Detroit rock star Kid Rock.
As an ambassador, Bryan will promote Chevrolet through his own social media channels and performances. Bryan has already brought a Chevrolet Silverado with the Z71 off-road package onstage, as part of his performance, and featured the Silverado on his YouTube show, Luke Bryan TV, before the partnership. A Chevy spokesman said choosing Bryan was part of his “authentic” interest in Chevrolet.
“Chevy has been a part of our family and a part of our work life on the farm for as long as I can remember,” said the Georgia native, who just inked a three-year deal with the brand. “If you were a Bryan, you drove a Chevy. I am so excited about this partnership and I’m honored to be representing such a wonderful brand.”
As part of the sponsorship, Chevy will sponsor Bryan’s 8th Annual Farm Tour, where he will make several stops in rural cities, setting up stages and performing for thousands of fans. A portion of the proceeds go to local college scholarships to students within the communities he plays in.
Bryan’s first album, “I’ll Stay Me,” came out in 2007. He was awarded Entertainer of the Year a total of four times in 2012, 2014 and 2015 by the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music.
“Partnering with Luke Bryan is a natural fit for Chevrolet,” said Paul Edwards, Chevrolet U.S. vice president of marketing. “Our customers love country music, and Chevy has always held a special place within the genre. We’re proud to build a relationship with an artist as authentic and talented as Luke.”
Luke Bryan’s 8th annual Farm Tour kicks off in Gaston, South Carolina on October 5 and will make a total of eight stops at various farms around the South East and Mid-West through October 15.
Additionally, for the first time ever, Bryan will release a Farm Tour EP to coincide with the tour this fall.
