Say Goodbye to the Chevy SS and Hello to its Unofficial Crossover Replacement
The Chevrolet SS is joining the ranks of the Dodge Viper, Chrysler 200, Buick Verano, Hyundai Azera and Jeep Patriot in 2018–all six vehicles are unfortunately being discontinued. Chevrolet will cease production of the Chevy SS immediately and no new vehicles will be created for the 2018 model year. Chevy has not yet named an official successor for the vehicle.
It’s definitely a sad day for Chevy fans but Chevy dealers were frankly not surprised to receive the news. Although the SS is absolutely a dream vehicle for Chevy enthusiasts, it failed to catch on with the general public.
The stylish four-door sedan packed a ton of power (415 horsepower, to be exact) and featured a full range of wonderful tech components at a reasonable price. But with the announcement that GM will shut down the Holden Commodore, an Australian-market GM vehicle on which the Chevy SS was heavily based, the SS is officially being pushed out of the Chevy sedan line-up.
Of course, Chevy fans who are looking for a spacious vehicle with similar features and functionality still have some fantastic options. Among them are the Equinox, Traverse and Trax crossover vehicles from the automaker’s upcoming 2018 lineup. All three offer flexible seating options, ample cargo space, beautiful interiors, refined exterior styling and out-of-this-world fuel efficiency.
At Ray Chevrolet, we’re partial to the 2018 Chevy Equinox. The Equinox boasts a fresh, new design, all-new propulsion systems, a full range of exciting tech features and a thoroughly modern attitude.
“Customers who previewed the vehicle early on had a strong emotional response to the sleek and sophisticated exterior design,” John Cafaro, executive director of GM Design, said in a recent statement announcing the car’s arrival at dealerships. “Those same themes are carried through to the interior, making the space beautifully intuitive.”
While the discontinued Chevy SS was definitely one of the automaker’s most stylish offerings last year, the 2018 Chevy Equinox is a truly worthy successor. The vehicle turns heads with its lean, muscular exterior and eye-catching chrome detailing across all trim levels. The Equinox also features LED daytime running lamps and horizontal tail lamps to emphasize its wide stance.
Inside, the Equinox continues to shine with a unique down-and-away instrument panel, available denim-style fabrics and seating that is every bit as comfortable as your living room couch. Notably, the Equinox surpasses the Chevy SS in terms of connectivity thanks to an upgraded MyLink infotainment system and an available OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot.
Come take a look at the 2018 Chevy Equinox today and find out why Chevy dealers near you can’t stop buzzing about this remarkable vehicle. At Ray Chevrolet, we’ve got the Equinox available now and can offer plenty of other excellent options to scratch your Chevy SS itch.
