Chevy is Developing a New Heavy Duty Utility Truck

Ever since its introduction, the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 has been making waves thanks to its extreme efficiency and stellar range of capabilities on-road and off-road. Now, spy photographers have uncovered evidence that suggests the new ZR2 may shake the automotive world more than ever before.

Spy photographers recently caught a glimpse of a modified Chevy Colorado ZR2 truck at the automaker’s testing site in Milford, Michigan and were shocked to see that the new vehicle appears to have been optimized for utility service. While the new ZR2 prototype has the same aggressive styling and stand-out exterior engineering of its predecessors, the truck in the photos features an all-new suspension. Notably, the truck’s bed has also been replaced with utility tool boxes.

Chevy dealers and automotive experts think that the new ZR2 may be Chevy’s way of drumming up interest from commercial buyers. After all, it makes sense that utility companies would be in the market for trucks with even more power and an increased range of productivity-enhancing features than the full-size Silverado can offer. Drivers in industries ranging from forestry to fossil fuels and energy or even logging would find a beefed-up version of the ZR2 useful.

“ZR2 is truly a segment of one and does everything well–from traversing heavy two-track trails to high-speed desert running and full-on rock crawling,” one local Chevy enthusiast said. We think you’ll find that he wasn’t exaggerating.

The 2017 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 boasts a class-exclusive 2.8L Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine paired to a six-speed automatic transmission to produce 186 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. Other dynamic features exclusive to the ZR2 include class-exclusive front and rear locking differentials, off-road rocker protection and modified front and rear bumpers for better off-road obstacle clearance. The ZR2 even comes with revolutionary, segment-exclusive Multimatic Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve dampers to ensure that your off-roading experience is as smooth as possible.
